Bordeaux En Primeur Vintage Reports
Our Bordeaux buyer Hal Wilson has been visiting the Bordelais over the last fifteen years for the annual En Primeur tasting campaign and returned from his latest trip to Bordeaux in April.2011 weather conditions were more challenging compared to 2009 and 2010. A warm and dry Spring resulted in early flowering and a hot June was followed by a cool July and a stormy August. Although September was warm and dry, ripening was uneven and careful sorting of grapes - in the vineyard and cellar - was essential.
While some houses have struggled to produce wines on a par with recent vintages, others have succeeded and there are many potential bargains to be found. The best wines are classic powerful yet elegant Bordeaux wines with great ageing potential, ripe fruit, moderate alcohol levels, excellent tannins and freshness.
We have some remaining primeurs available for 2009 and 2010, which can be found by clicking this link.
To receive future offers and vintage reports by email, please email hal@cambridgewine.com to join our en primeur newsletter list.

Why Cambridge Wine Merchants?
Our experience and commitment to finding quality clarets at good prices has lead to us become one of the foremost suppliers to Cambridge and Oxford Colleges as well as private customers. Our selection is always based on quality rather than existing long standing relationships and we will be sharing details of our favourite 2011 wines shortly.
What is En Primeur?
It involves purchasing wine shortly after it has been made, some time before it is bottled, at a lower price than the finished article. Many wine estates often release a proportion of each vintage for payment up front at a lower price to ease their cash flow. These wines tend to be allocated in small quantities to loyal customers. Cost savings can be impressive, our advice always impartial and expert.
You will also benefit from staggered payments. You pay for the wine now, but you only pay the duty and VAT charges when the goods are delivered, typically two years after sale.
Conditions of Sale:
En Primeur wines are sold in cases of 6 or 12 x 75cl. Prices are quoted lying in the Chateau and do not include duty, shipping, insurance, delivery and VAT which will be charged on shipment where applicable. Offers are subject to availability.
Our vintage reports for 2009 and 2010 are still available
