Comparative Aromatic Whites Tasting Edinburgh

We’ll be doing a flight of comparative tastings where you’ll be trying wines in pairs (see below for details). Tasting like this really helps you develop your understanding of wine: you’re not waiting for minutes in between sips so your impressions from one wine to the next are all the more fresh.

There is a massive scope of variation to be had amongst Aromatic white varietals such as Riesling and Gewurztraminer. Unlike their less aromatic counterparts - where the wine maker usually has a large selection of tricks up his or her sleeve - this variation is mostly achieved as a combination of climatic influence and practices within the vineyard. Here we will taste four different grape varieties comparing two wines from each in order to understand better the elegant trajectories that each varietal can take in differing climates.

Sake Tasting at the Punter

Join us for an exceptional tasting of Sake, paired with a range of exotic dishes matching the versatile taste of this fascinating beverage from Japan.

The tasting will be hosted by Wakana Omija, winemaker for Akashi-Tai and Shochu, who will take you through a range
of Sakes alongside an exquisite choice of the chef's creations - from the obvious choice - Sushi - to more exotic
combinations, one more intriguing than the other!

The event will take place at the beautiful Barn at The Punter pub, 3 Pound Hill, Cambridge.
