Feast of St George with Que Rico Tapas - 1pm on Sunday 23rd April at our Cherry Hinton Road Wine Bar

On April 23rd we will celebrate St George’s Day with a wine tasting from Aragon. The wines will be paired with traditional dishes from that region and surrounding regions like Navarra. It is our way to celebrate Saint George, the patron saint of both England and Aragon.

A message from Estefania at Que Rico Tapas: "As every year since I have been living in England, I organize a pop-up event on the 23rd of April to celebrate Saint George’s day. It is a special day in Aragon, the Spanish region where I come from, and I feel less homesick if I share with you all how wonderful it is. As food is my business, what better than cooking a menu with some of our traditional dishes and ingredients so I feel closer to my land and you can discover new flavours from Spain."

Do you want to know the menu?

White asparagus with tomato vinaigrette and sour cream

White asparagus are one of the featured vegetables in Navarra and Aragon and sometimes difficult to find in the rest of Spain, where green asparagus are more popular. White asparagus are very delicate in flavour and soft texture. They can be cooked in many different ways, from salad to stew, as a dish themselves of as a garnish for fish or meat.

Menestra

A simple but delicious recipe with all seasonal vegetables and dressed with a “sofrito”. It is a very appreciate dish in Spain, mainly if the vegetables come from the Ebro Valley (Navarra and Aragon), for the quality of its crops.

Trout with serrano ham

(vegetarian option will be available too)

This is our “surf’n’turf” speciality! Fresh trout from the Pyrenees rivers and serrano ham, a staple in every Spanish home. Simple and scrumptious!

Longaniza with apple and onion

(vegetarian option will be available too)

Longaniza is another type of Spanish sausage, similar to chorizo as it is made with pork too, but with a different seasoning, based in black pepper instead of paprika and other spices like nutmeg, clove, cumin and garlic, for example.

Pastel ruso

One of the most delicate Spanish patisserie desserts, made in the North of Aragon for Ascaso, a family who has been running the business for more than 125 years. This cake is their speciality and keep the recipe secret. You can find similar to them in Spain, but they are not the same! You will be astonished by the soft and light texture but all the flavour of hazelnuts. Absolutely heaven!

All of this will be paired with wines from Aragon and the neighbouring region of La Rioja.
