The Foundation Certificate is an entry level qualification providing a straightforward introduction to wine. It is ideal for boosting the confidence of new or inexperienced front line staff in the hospitality and retail sectors. It is also a great course for those wanting to know the main grape varieties and food and wine matching.
Who is it aimed at?
- Candidates with their first job in retailing or hospitality
- Wine consumers wanting to know more about the main grape varieties and food and wine matching
Topics covered in the course include: the main styles of wine, the WSET systematic approach to tasting and making tasting notes, major grape varieties, health and safety issues, food and wine matching, storage & service of wine, preparation of glassware and other equipment for service.
At the end of the course there is a 45-minute, 30 multiple choice question examination. Students will also have completed food and wine matching activities as well as a Portfolio of tasting notes. Small class numbers mean that the tutor can give individual help and attention to each candidate, so we expect to deliver a near-perfect pass rate.
