Château Vincens, Cahors

Château Vincens, Cahors
A leading independent Cahors producer, with vines on the sought-after limestone plateau above the Lot Valley, Chateau Vincens has remained in family hands since its foundation in 1919 by Prosper Vincens on his return from the first world war. Three generations later, Isabelle and Phillipe Vincens still dedicate themselves to producing the traditional wines of Cahors, whilst also maintaining a clear-sighted view of the future with a range of white and zero sulphite cuvées

What Wine Enthusiast says:
“Selections from the estate’s top parcels and aging in new wood for two years have produced an immensely rich wine. Polished and spicy, the wine has serious tannins as well as layers of black fruits. The wine is just there, and it is impressively ready to drink”. 94/100
Chateau Vincens do not have grapes on the Lot Valley alluvium where most commercial Cahors is produced, making a range of cuvées possessed of wonderful depth, richness and finesse even at lower price points. With 38 hectares of plantings at 300m of altitude, their bottlings always maintain a degree of freshness, without the jammy, monolithic or overly tannic nature characteristic of some. Their Prestige cuvée is blended with Merlot to produce a fruiter, earlier drinking and modern style, but most of their wines are traditional monovarietal Malbec, albeit much more accessible in their youth than the old-school, grunty and drying Cahors of yore. At the top end, they produce wines that are amongst the finest old-world Malbecs, in the appellation where the grape first rose to prominence. Likewise, some of their entry level cuvées are excellent glass pours for those who want to try an interesting and complex alternative to Argentinian Malbecs
