Old World Vs New World Wine Fair at the University Centre

Are styles converging, or diverging? Are New World ‘upstarts’ cutting a radical new dash or imitating their European predecessors? Are the ‘European Greats’ overcharging and resting on their laurels? Ideals of terroir – out-moded nonsense or stylistic reality? And most importantly – where’s the best value and what tastes best?

Please join us to enjoy and explore this thesis further with 32 wines on parade lined up style vs. style – Champagne against Tasmanian fizz, and so on.

Entry is £10 which includes a cheese/meat/olive platter. To purchase tickets (but please hurry, these events sell out fast)….

We use a voucher system for tasting samples. Buy the vouchers on the day. The cost of each sample is roughly the per-centiliter retail price of the wine – a very good deal. You can order further food at the bar.

TIckets available at:

Chateauneuf-du-Pape - the valley beyond

Cambridge University Centre Bar, by the river at the Mill Pond.
Saturday 5th May 4-6pm. Tickets £20 in advance £28 on the door.
A cheese and meat deli platter, and 9 wines to taste are included in the price.
Please do buy tickets soon – these events can sell out very quickly.
The format for this event is a seated, tutored master-class.

The ‘Chateauneuf Satellite” appellations: Gigondas; Vacqeyras; Rasteau; Cairanne to name a few, constitute what is, without doubt, one of the most exiting historic wine regions in the world. Unlike Bordeaux, the wines are delicious when young, unlike Burgundy, they are exceptionally good value, indeed, this may be last bastion of great value in the classic wine regions of France.

Wine Gums - 5th May - University Centre

In the lovely Cambridge Wine Merchants Wine Bar at the University Centre ( nr the Mill Pub) this month, MAY 5TH, we have Meryl O'Rourke headlining.
She is an acclaimed stand-up comic and TV writer who revels in her bitterness. She supported Frankie Boyle during his 2016 tour. He calls Meryl "Inspiringly funny" Her solo show Bad Mother was a hit at the Edinburgh and Brighton festivals, receiving 5 star reviews and was The Times Critic's Choice.
"5***** Truly astonishing show...A must see" The New Current
"4**** Her devastatingly direct show stands out for it's bold, boundary-breaking nature...the shocking casualness of her delivery is spot on." Jewish Chronicle

Opening the night we have a "a doctor look alike', Eshaan Akbar, who won the Piccadily Comedy Club New Comedian of the Year 2016. Bruce Dessau quotes "So slick, I could've been watching a Live At The Apollo set". Eshaan has been tour support for Dane Baptiste and warm - up for Micky Flanagan.
He's performed at Latitude and lots of other festivals.

And in the middle we have Frank Sanazi. " It's all brilliantly stupid, fantastically wrong and ridiculously funny" **** The Scotsman
