Famille Antech, Limoux
Famille Antech, Limoux
Since 1860, seven generations of the Antech family have worked the hills around Limoux, father and son team François and Baptiste now bearing the torch for one of the appellation’s most exciting small producers. Famille Antech’s holdings sit at around 400m on prime south-facing terroir, and in Limoux’s sunny and seasonally hot climate this altitude is crucial for producing sparkling wines that maintain their freshness and vitality. Antech are particular champions of the traditional grape of the appellation – Mauzac -, producing an excellent range of cuvées that bear its hallmark combination of apple fruit, and, with their careful handling, intriguing floral and savoury complexities. The domaine has been fully converted to organic viticulture since 2020 and are certified under the Terra Vitis scheme, François and Baptiste committed to the kind of sustainable, light-touch work in the vineyard and winery that puts the character and quality of their carefully nurtured grapes front and centre. Alongside their plantings of Mauzac, Antech has holdings of Chenin, Chardonnay and Pinot Noir which see use in their Crémant cuvées..

All harvesting at Antech is manual, producing only millésime wines with low dosage, and always aimed at the transparent expression of vine and vintage. These are wines of precision and clear identity, all enjoying extended lees aging to give depth and complexity without sacrificing the singularity of their growing conditions and cépage. Their whole range offers excellent value for those looking for traditional method sparkling wines with a distinctive identity. Of particular note, their zero dosage Blanquette Cuvée M 3.0 provides a breathtaking introduction to just what Mauzac can achieve, layering notes of apple blossom, ozone, tarte tatin and creamy lees character with compelling freshness. A seamless combination of delicacy and profundity.
