Second wine of the excellent Le Pin Beausoleil. Guide Hachette 1 star "raspberry, wild strawberry, blackcurrant and violet: here is a pretty spring bouquet. Damien Pagès is the grandson of Marc Pagès (who took on Château la Tour de By in 1966). Château Noaillac is situated 15 kilometres north of Château la Tour de By. Planted to approximately 40% Cabernet Sauvignon, 55% Merlot, 5% Petit Verdot, with an average age of 40 years. Damien is a qualified oenologue and a brilliant winemaker. He describes his 2021 as follows: Charming and complex on the nose, with an elegant balance of fruit and oak aromas. Nice, intense claret colour, rich and full bodied with a long finish. An elegant, silky and luscious wine. Super value, almost too good!

The Guimberteau family has owned the Château Franc-Baudron estate since 1923. This is a vineyard on a human scale where each generation has left its footprint on the family heritage. Since 2010, the new generation of Château Franc-Baudron has embarked on an environmental approach by converting the entire vineyard to organic farming. The area hosts bee-hives, uses plants for treatments (horsetail, nettle and ferns) and seeds flowers to encourage biodiversity of wildlife in the vines. They have begun implementing new winemaking techniques by using minimal inputs to express at its best the nature of the grapes and the type of soil. Most of the family’s plots of Montagne Saint-Emilion are located on a clay-limestone plateau. Bright and intense in colour with aromas of blackcurrant, blackberry and oak notes.Well balanced, powerful and velvety.

After a few seconds the primary fruit subsides leaving a host of menthol and wood spiced elements that provide the backbone - still quite apparent at the moment but they give a sense of the structure and provide nuance and layers of flavour. A mighty wine that could be kept a few more years before opening. Grapes come from clay-limestone hilltop vineyards of Grézillac in the Entre-deux-Mers. From the Andre Lurton stable, now overseen by Jacques Lurton, also of Château Couhins Lurton, La Louvière, Rochemorin, Cruzeau and Barbe Blanche. A 60/40 blend of Merlot and Cabernet Sauvignon, aged 12 months in 20% new oak barrels."

Fine and very expressive, there are citrus and white flowers, on the nose, with vanilla from some nice oak. On the palate, there is complexity, ripe fruit and a pleasant freshness. It is a very aromatic wine with notes of citrus fruits. The whole wine is well balanced between body, freshness and oak. The Château Bonnet Réserve comes from a selection of a few hectares, among the 120 of the estate's vineyard, producing white wines in sustainable viticulture. The grape varieties selected are Sauvignon and Sémillon.

Seventh generation family property of 20 hectares in Fronsac, bordering the Dordogne river to the west of Libourne. Aged for 12 months in French oak, 40% new. Guide Hachette 2 stars and Coup de Coeur "Merlot (82%) gives of its best in this powerful and very long wine with tight and dense tannins. A dark and deep mouth, a complex and harmonious nose with red and black fruits, smoked oak and moccha. Broad, rich, explosive and crunchy fruit combined to a delicate, slightly toasted wood taste. 46% Cabernet Sauvignon, 44% Merlot, 9% Cabernet Franc, 1% Petit Verdot. This red Bordeaux wine comes from one of the top producers in the village of Listrac-Médoc, which sits a few kilometres from Margaux and produces wines with a similar silky, elegant character. 2014 was a very good vintage in the Médoc generally, and is a great source for finding wines to drink now at affordable prices. Dark ruby, with little toastiness on the nose from the oak, but there is attractive red plummy fruit here with a touch of sous bois. Medium bodied, fine tannins and ready to drink. Classic claret.
