A Rancio wine has been fortified and allowed to oxidise by being left in direct sunlight. This adds concentration and an oxidised nutty character to the wine. Fascinating, intense and delicious.

Domaine Danjou-Banessy
Natural, biodynamic and vegan. Grenache, Carignan and Mourvedre from 80 year old vines, Made without filtering or fining. Pale but gorgeous mid red colour. At first on the nose, you are like "What even is that?". Whatever it is, you know that you like it. Elegant, subtle fruit is intermixed with gentle herb, earth and savoury charachters. Deep and wonderful. On the palate the wine is elegant and deep again, but not heavy in the slightest. Ruffled fruit and savoury notes with minerality and real finesse. Domaine Danjou-Banessy
Old vine Grenache grown on decomposed black schist with a limestone sub soil with some quartz, that produces something amazing. Ethereal, sublime and fresh, this achieves a level of finesse akin to fine red Burgundy. Remarkable, special, very good indeed.

Moulin de la Gardette
The Gigondas Tradition is a blend of 80% Grenache, 10% Cinsault and 10% Mourvèdre. 10% is raised in used Burgundian barrels but the majority of the wine has been both fermented and matured in concrete, traditionally in other words. Jean-Baptiste Meunier took over this ancient family estate (dating from 1670) in 1988 and has quietly brought it to its current size of 9 hectares, with some of the Grenache vines now having achieved centurion status. Organic by inclination and with the occasional biodynamic impulse, Jean-Baptiste makes some of the best Gigondas that is available today.

Au Bon Climat
Au Bon Climat’s "Hildegard" is a recreation of the original varietal planting of the Corton Charlemagne vineyard in 800 A.D. Chardonnay was not part of the mix at the time, but rather Pinot Gris, Pinot Blanc and Aligoté. The combination of this unique blend with long term barrel aging (2 years) made something special. It has a texture, complexity, and distinctiveness that cannot be found in a single white wine varietal. Hand harvested, whole cluster pressed and put into barrel to ferment. The 3 varietals age separate for 2 years in 100% new François Frères French oak barrels. Lovely aroma of vanilla and hazelnuts from the oak, and a mouth-coating richness, makes for a wine that seems like Chardonnay. But the fruit profile is more bruised apple and pear, and the aromas are more floral than Chardonnay. Minerally lavender and vanilla note from the fermentation/aging regime in top-notch barrels. Aromas of ripe stone fruit, contrast nicely with fresh herbal scent as the wine is initially evaluated.

Domaine D'ourea
From a pebbly vineyard located on the sandy banks deposited by the river Ouvèze. A beautiful mix of indigenous, rare and wonderful grapes (Grenache Noir, Aramon, Counoise and Oeillade) vinified whole-bunch with a short maceration and then 6 months breeding in concrete vat produce a relaxed, supple, savoury and classy drinking and tapas wine. A great introduction to this most exciting of estates based in Vacqueyras and Gigondas. Serve cool (16c).

Domaine D'ourea
Wow. A literal "Wow". We were completely knocked out with this cuvee upon discovery back in January 2023, at an organic wine fair in Southern France. Across from d'Ourea's stand was the stand of one of our longest and most successful producers who too makes a similar style of lifted, elegant Grenache. I passed him a glass of d'Ourea's Vacqueyras to which the winemaker put under his nose, "Wow". He continued "This is beautiful, the perfect balance in the aromatics of Grenache, a lovely use of whole-bunch". "The stems (of the grape bunches) are the most beautiful part of the grape - they bring freshness and aromas of garrigue, herbs, and complexity to the wine". Adrien Roustan, Vigneron at d'Ourea An outstanding Vacqueyras from a selection of Adrien's finest terroir. Being a blend of "Hautes Garrigues" (a red clay gravel) and "Pendants" (a blue and yellow marl). Each terroir brings its original personality. The "Garrigues" finesse and minerality. The "Pendants" the power and depth. Vineyards planted in 1950. "The Grenache here is at the northern end of its ripening range, and that means its wines have finesse and elegance". We could not agree more. A truly charming wine and a real "Wow".

Domaine D'ourea
Old vines from the Grand Montmirail, high altitude vineyards (400 to 520 meters). The foot of the vineyards consist of a red marl that brings the muscle and virility. In middle and higher slopes limestone bedrock is increasingly present, this transmits the wines tension and raciness. Direct, pure wines. 100% Grenache in 2023. 70% grapes destemmed, crushed and a short infusion follows. Wildly fermented and only matured in concrete tank to expose the complexity and natural tension of the wine. This is a full, broad wine, but elegant and still vibrating. The originality and beauty of the site is transmitted with energy. This Gigondas shows you this character, this minerality - water of rock, wine of rock.

Domaine D'ourea
100% Syrah. Aged for 14 months in concrete tanks. Certified organic (AB Agriculture Biologique). "Tasted blind. Liquorice and raspberry aromas. A juicy palate packed full of fruit. Firm but fine tannins give a broad structure and then a note of earthiness - black pepper, olives and liquorice come through. Plenty of zip and vibrancy throughout the palate". 16/20 Alistair Cooper on jancisrobinson.com "Gorgeously spicy style of Syrah, with some bay leaf and fresh herb nuances. It's fairly full-bodied and decidedly grippy, with quite fibrous, rugged tannins that will take time to settle down. A floral finish, like violets, with a touch of blueberry and smoke. This will gain further complexity with time. Pure whole-bunch Syrah grown on red clay with limestone fragments. Aged for 14 months in concrete tanks". 95/100 Matt Walls in Decanter Magazine Drinking Window: 2027 - 2035

Foncalieu
Les Vignobles Foncalieu is a cooperative of more than 600 growers from across the Languedoc - a result of many small village co-ops being joined together over the years - covering a considerable spread of the region’s appellations and IGPs. This bottling is from vineyard parcels on several types of terroirs, from clay-limestone soils close to the Etang de Thau lagoon to slightly more inland hillsides on sandy and gravelly soils. It’s fermented in temperature-controlled stainless steel vats to preserve freshness. One of only three wines to score an 'Outstanding' score of 95/100 in a Decanter Panel tasting of Picpoul de Pinet AOP in Spring 2026. This goes to show the quality of Foncalieu's wines, and why we have worked with them for many years. This great value bottle shows proper Picpoul character, gorgeous texture, a wonderful freshness and real energy. Natalie Earl: "Bright and clear in the glass and in aromas, some green apple, herbs, iodine, sea spray, lemon rind. Huge acidity, lots of Picpoul character. Some weight, but it’s pristine in fruit and in its zesty intention to refresh". Heather Dougherty: "Juicy lemon and lemon zest aromas, joined by scrub herbs and hay on the palate. Lingers on the finish with a hint of lime zest bitterness". Wieteke Teppema: "Subtle nose of citrus, white flowers and green apple. Saline and oyster shell, with bay and thyme. Lovely, subtle mix, with some weight from lees ageing".

Domaine Odyssee
Natural, organic Grenache Noir from a beautiful vineyard in Baixas, Roussillon. Grown with great care and wildly fermented and aged in tank. Floral, pretty and minerally fresh red fruits with soft texture and generous fruit. Really delightful Grenache. Vincent Carreras has been working in wine industry for 13 years. For nine years he worked for a winery in the south of the Roussillon, Andy Cook’s Mas Cristine and Coume del Mas. Working in the vineyard, cellar and commercial activities - the whole shebang! For four years now he has been employed by a family winery based in Maury - Clos des Vins d'Amour. Who work 25 hectares organically in the west of Roussillon. Mostly in commercial activities, but also working in the cellar. Alongside this, in 2016, Vincent started a new project - Domaine Odyssée. The 3.5ha of vineyards are in Calce and Baixas, in a heart of Roussillon. The sites are small, but unquestionably some of the most beautiful we have seen. Vincent draws on the experiences mentioned above and his time in New Zealand (2011), Argentina (2012) and Bordeaux 2011 to help fully realise what he has there in his exceptional terroir. Vincent works organically, using no weedkillers, no chemical products. He works by hand and with organic fertilizer (he is in conversion right now). He harvests his parcels by himself with friends and family. In the cellar, Vincent’s philosophy is a minimum of intervention "To keep the fruit and the terroir.". The wines are extracted gently with just a little pump over. No filtration, no fining. The only preservative is a little dose of sulphites in very low quantities at bottling "It is important for me the stabilise the wine in respect of the future customers".

Tenute di Carleone
Something different. 100% Sangiovese from two high altitude sites (at Radda and Lamole). The grapes are picked late to get maximum ripeness from these beautiful high-lying vineyards. Fermented in cement tanks with 20% whole bunches. The long maceration of 4 months gives the wine a wonderful lifted fruit character, which differentiates it from the more classic styles. From jancisrobinson.com: A creation of winemaker Sean O’Callaghan, called after himself, ‘the one-eyed rascal’. 100% late-picked Sangiovese. 40% whole-bunch, 5-6 months on skins. 12 months in concrete. O’Callaghan sees this as a low-SO2 experiment. "Transparent garnet. Sweet, round and fresh. Dry finish. Grating texture on the end. Needs time, but see my note on the 2018".
