Fine Wine

Le Due Porte is 540 metres above sea level. Budbreak is later here, often avoiding issues with late frosts and snow. Ripening is slow and constant. The soil profile preserves humidity; important when making a wine such as Brunello that does not contemplate irrigation. Alberese has high levels of calcium carbonate which favors acidity, aided and abetted by the slower ripening and later harvest due to the exposition and altitude. We generally pick Le Due Porte as much as two weeks after our vineyards in Castelnuovo dell’Abate and are often amongst the last in Montalcino to harvest. The grapes develop organoleptic complexity from that extra hang-time and from the pronounced difference between day and night temperatures. In fact the altitude guarantees extreme thermal excursion even in hotter years which is wonderful for aromatic development. Over the last two decades we have seen, year after year, a pronounced character emerge in the fruit from this vineyard, a wine that maintains the typical structure of a Brunello vecchio stampo and epitomises finesse and elegance."

A wild ferment, aged in old French oak.

Amber colour with greenish nuances. Intense nose of great complexity, standing-out the dried fruit aromas, harmoniously combined with vanilla and honey touches. 94 points Charles Curtis, MW (Decanter): "The nose of the the blended Morey premier cru from domaine parcels has pronounced and nuanced aromas of blackberry and raspberry fruit with a suggestion of spice and earth. There is a slight hint of reduction that should disappear at bottling, and the texture is pleasantly round and silky soft. The grapes come from a blend of lieux-dits that include Les Charrieres, Les Millandes, Les Ruchots, and Clos Sorbè; the total surface area is 0.82 hectares, all picked 27 - 28 September. Lionel Comelade produces this stunning wine from ancient vine Macabeu and Grenache Gris grown on amazing black and white schist soil vineyards between Estagel and Latour de France in the Roussillon. Both white grapes were harvested later in the season in 1992 with high sugar levels. The grapes were partially fermented in concrete vats and then neutral brandy was added to stop fermentation and keep natural sweetness in the wine. Then the wine was passed to second use oak barrels and left in the cellar for 34 years before bottling (to order). No ‘topping up’ of the barrels occurred in the 34 years. The wine is tremendous, possibly surpassing the 1988. It is ‘ambre’ in colour. A bright, wild nose with orange rind, orange oil and warm spices. The palate is thrilling with great complexity and depth with thrilling, wild acidity which really charms. Astonishing and quite unique. The wine is one of the best value fortified wines in the world. 34 years of age, so interesting and delicious. A steal at this price. please note: The photo is of a different vintage.

Deep purple, almost opaque in colour with an expressive nose of black fruits, pepper, cinnamon, spice and violets. A seductive palate of dark hedgerow fruits, very open and welcoming with an explosion of fruit and spice. Mineral undertones.

Single vineyard. 60% Mourvèdre (20 years old), 40% Grenache (30 years old) on pudding stone, clay, sand and limestone tuffeau. Hand-picked; whole-bunch, spontaneous fermentation; minimal cap work; very gently pressed. Fermented separately because the Mourvèdre ripens so much later than the Grenache. 12 months in old oak barrels of 600, 500 and 400 litres. "If I’d not known what this wine was, and put it to my nose, my first guess would be Pinot Noir, Tasmania. Rosehips. Nectarine skin. Hibiscus tea. Morels. Then, after tasting it, I’d change my mind. I’d wonder if this was Cinsault, one of Alex Milner’s wraith-like beauties, perhaps: the bruised rose petals, the jasmine tea, the taste of prickly pears and dust and pungent-peppery-green at the back of my throat. Then I smell garrigue - cistus, broom heather, wild thyme, the smell of the wind blowing through holm oaks and twisted pines and I am in the south of France. This is the fey child of Roussillon. Jasper Morris MW87-90/100 Also quite a pale colour. The bouquet is a little more pronounced in fresh raspberry fruit, pleasing rather than massive. Very stylish, with a good fruit acid balance. 34 hl/ha. 47% Cabernet Sauvignon, 34% Merlot, 13% Cabernet Franc, 6% Petit Verdot. Very deep ruby, with lots of fruity, spicy and chocolatey aromas, this is a fleshy, ripe and glossy Sénéjac, that has an ethereal quality for such a big wine. It is polished, yet structured and shows elegance and power. Sénéjac is owned by the Cordier family, owners of Ch. Talbot in Saint-Julien.

A very special cuvee made just from the best Chardonnay grapes from the excellent 2019 vintage. Fine mousse with lovely brioche aroma and fruity palate.

This 2015 is a fantastic vintage, with its equal blend of Chardonnay and Pinot Noir. The nose is delicate, subtle, powdered with pastry tones. On the palate, the attack is somewhat lively, with beautiful bitter notes that gradually melt. Serve as an aperitif or with poultry and game.

Classically made Champagne with grapes sourced from Grand Cru vineyards on the Cotes de Blanc, a blend of Pinot Noir and Chardonnay. This wine spends 36 months ageing prior to disgorgement. Top quality Grand Creu Champagne with full flavoured intense developed citrus and floral aromas. There is a joie de vivre about this wine that makes it very easy to drink and enjoy. Very good value.

More classic Sauternes style. Rich stone fruits, a smoky backbone, and a syrupy finish. Declared a 1er Cur Classé at the 1855 Sauternes and Barsac Classification, Château Coutet has been producing wine since 1643. Boasting both the largest vineyard in Barsac (thirty-eight-and-a-half hectares) as well as the largest cellar (110 meters), Château Coutet has been owned by the Baly family since 1977 and managed by Aline Baly since 2009. 95% Sémillon, 4% Sauvignon Blanc, 1% Muscadelle. RS 158 g/l. Golden colour, with marmalade and smoky nose. Very concentrated and sweet palate, unctuous, with botrytis evident and great length. Impressive.

55% Sauvignon Blanc 45% Semillon Certified Organic.Tropical nose with some smoke. Good weight and viscosity with a lightness of touch too. Sweet but not cloying.

Vines of average age 40 years. It is important to understand the subsoil and originality of the different parcels that make up the cuvée ‘Terroir’, seeking to be above all the full expression of Chardonnay. On the palate is developed the freshness of minerality peculiar to Pouilly-Fuissé.

The small estate in the heart of Pauillac has produced this rich wine, half-and-half Cabernet Sauvignon and Merlot. It is full of promising tannins, blackcurrant flavours and spice from wood aging. Drink the wine from 2026.
