Fortified and Dessert Wine

This winery makes Noble One - the top Oz sweetie for many years - so it’s no surprise that this cheeky half massively over-delivers on quality, winning many trophies for best value dessert wine. Loads of juicy tropical fruit.

Outstanding Vin Santo produced from half Trebbiano and half Malvasia trained to guyot and grown organically in San Casciano Val di Pesa, Argiano at an altitude of 300m. The grapes were hand-picked on September 20th 2017 and were placed on bamboo racks to dry for four months until they were gently pressed the following January and run off to ferment and breed on 110l 'Caratelli' barrels for the next five years. The wine was bottled in Febuary 2023. We only have a very limted 60 of these truly wonderful little bottles to share with you.

A very classic Yquem. Breathtakingly wide spectrum of floral honey, exotic fruit (passion fruit, mango and pineapple), caramel and marzipan aromas. But none of this is a jot too much. In fact, the wine is extremely precise and finely nuanced. Wonderful freshness and textural complexity, in spite of the considerable concentration and extravagance. Very suave and sensual finish that goes on and on.

Attractive cassis nose with powerful, concentrated fruit aromas. Fresh, rich, firm and full of fruit including, dark berries and chocolate. A wine with good body, structure and length. Single Quinta wines need decanting as they are usually a decade old, and will throw a sediment as they age. Walnuts are an excellent accompaniment to Vintage Port, along with rich flavoured cheeses such as Silton and dried fruits.

88% Semillon 12% Sauvignon Blanc, 165 g/l residual sugar. Mostly on Limestone. Very fine and intense nose of marmalade and a touch of smoke. Above average residual sugar. This wine comes from an estate and is made by a family rooted since several generations on the hillsides of the Garonne river. The family managed to keep the passion for the vineyard and the sweet wines until today by respecting tradition and innovation with one goal: producing very good wines.

The Royal Tokaji Blue Label 5 Puttonyos 2018 is a classic expression of one of Hungary’s most famous wine styles. The 2018 vintage produced rich, ripe Aszú berries with excellent concentration while retaining the trademark Tokaj acidity that prevents the sweetness from becoming heavy. A superb value sweet wine: rich, complex and age-worthy, with the key Tokaji combination of botrytis richness + piercing acidity. The 2018 is already drinking beautifully but will comfortably mature for 15–25+ years if well stored.

The Montesquiou family have been a source of Jurancon wines for generations, today it is run by brothers Sébastien and Fabrice who have raised the quality of the estate to a new level. The brothers employ many of the techniques of biodynamic viticulture so that no insecticides and herbicides are used. Superb value dessert wine. The vineayrds of Jurancon are blessed with a very dry autumn allowing grapes to be left on the vine well into November, by which time they have begun to dry, concentrating the sugars and the flavours, whilst retaining all of the bracing acidity which is the hallmark of Petit Manseng. The palate hits you with a mouthful of rich apricot and peach flavours, as well as significant sweetness from 120grams+ residual sugar. Still you have great acidity, length and richness. A joy and terrific value.

Smooth and silky in the mouth, it reveals remarkable structure and body. A delicate wine defined by an elegance that extends into a prolonged finish.

Pale gold colour. Floral nose with candied fruits, lychee, tangerine. The palate is rich with very good acidity and a long, salivating finish. A harmonious wine. Superb value.

This famous Port house's best vineyard makes great wines with distinctive aromas of mint and violet with intense concentration and fine peppery tannins. Dow's is owned by the Symington family, Port producers for five generations since 1882,

An appealing golden colour, with an amber rim. Elegant and complex, it shows aromas of spice, with prevailing notes of dried fruit and elegant hints of wood and honey. Smooth and round on the palate, it shows complexity amidst intense flavours of dried fruit. An excellent finish.

Round and well-balanced offering complex aromas of candied fruits backed up by a hint of exotic fruit (mango, guava) and white flowers. On the palate, it is ample and fleshy, leading into a silky and long finish.

On the palate, it is ample and fleshy, properly sweet and rich with classic barley sugar, apricot and sweet lemon flavours, leading into a silky and long finish. The Mercadier family used to own the Premier Grand Cru Classé Chateau Suduiraut and now own this estate along with 3 other estates in Sauternes. This one is in the excellent commune of Fargues. It is an excellent and affordable example of Sauternes.

This Malbec was created in the lofty heights of the Cafayate Valley in the remote Salta region of Argentina. It is the result of the work of two brothers (hermanos): Osvaldo working the family vineyards, and Rafael making the wines from the wonderfully concentrated grapes that this high altitude yields.

Graham’s Late Bottled Vintage, like Vintage Port, is a wine of a single year however it is not a 'declared' Vintage Port. Whereas Vintage Port spends only two years in casks and then matures in bottle, LBV is aged in casks and then bottled at between four and six years of age. This wood-ageing encourages the wine’s development and thus, at the time of bottling it has completed its maturation and is ready for drinking, without the need for decanting. Graham’s Late Bottled Vintage illustrates Graham’s house style very effectively: great rich fruit concentration with spicy complexity and depth, held together by superb structure and balance. Graham’s has always been renowned for producing outstanding Ports and its Late Bottled Vintage Port is no exception, standing as a leader in its category. While the fortified wine within is in the classic Graham’s LBV style, the packaging has been revamped. The new bottle is 18% lighter than previous Graham’s LBV bottles, weighing 450 grams. The house previously launched its Six Grapes Reserve Ruby Port in the same, lighter bottle in a bid to reduce carbon emissions from shipping.

A wonderful Moscato d'Asti DOCG here from Beatrice and Marco at Cascina Vano. Not that the wine is marketed as such, but it is 100% from a single, old-vine vineyard that was 'brought' into the family's holdings when Beatrice and Marco's Grandmother married into the family Rivetti. The old-vine vineyard is in the heart of the Santo Stefano Belbo region where her family originate - the heart and soul of real Moscato d'Asti production. Floral, fresh, honeyed and beautifully balanced. Elderflower leads into orange blossom, lavender, honey, melon, peach, pink grapefruit and a gentle, gentle fizz dazzle you into submission. Serious quality here for the price. The style of "Alla Maestra" is really traditional, Beatrice and Marco's Grandmother's family and many generations before had been using the 'bag method' or 'bag filter' to make the Moscato in Valdivilla (hamlet of Santo Stefano Belbo). Valdivilla (along with Santo Stefano Belbo, Calosso, Mango and Camo) is considered to be the original heartland of Moscato production in the region. Beatrice and Marco's idea is to keep the tradition of the style of these wines even if they are no longer using the bag method. Pressure reached in the juice whilst fermentation is halted at 5.5% abv is 1.2 bar. They are keeping real freshness in the wine with a nice acidity and only a delicate 'perlage' (fizz) in amongst the sweet honey notes and all manner of fruits and flowers. Beatrice & Marco also feel this style opens up more options at the table - including savoury and umami matches as well as the classic fruit and sweet dishes. The Grandmother was known as a beloved teacher to many in this area and surrounding villages, hence the dedicated name "Alla Maestra" meaning "For the teacher". It seems in the case of this Moscato, Marco & Beatrice are our teachers too. Teachers of this wonderful, traditional style of Moscato d'Asti. Enjoy the lesson.
