17/20 Tamlyn Currin, jancisrobinson.com "Full bottle 1,310 g. Certified Ecocert organic. A 70-year-old plot of vines at 220 m on schist, mostly Carignan with a few Syrah and Grenache vines. Hand-picked, spontaneous fermentation, whole-bunch maceration for 15 days with gentle wetting of the cap. Infusion rather than extraction. Sour plums and raspberries bleed into rusty iron and iodine, a dark seam of salty seaweed running the underbelly of the wine. A fleeting rose-petal note turns red-apple-skin then earthy and I can smell that moment I lift a beetroot from dark, loamy earth. The tannins are so supple and pliant that they feel like beetroot skins as you finger-slip them off after roasting. A lilting, lifted, gentle, sunset folksong of a wine. Roussillon to the bone. Grown on Schistose marls resting on the southern limestone foothills of the Massif des Corbières limit between the Pyrénées Orientales and the Aude. Altitude 220m.

A majority of Carignan, very little Grenache Noir, even less Syrah from a 70 year old plot of vines.

Manual harvest, wild ferment. Whole bunch maceration for a period of fifteen days, conservation of the cap of damp marc by daily wetting. Very little extraction, rather an infusion. This makes a beautiful light-footed wine.

Amazing, bright and red-fruited vigorous Carignan. Like nothing we've tasted before. An utter marvel.
