La Deves is a single vineyard wine consisting of Carignan 85% Grenache Noir 15%. The 90yr old vine Carignan delivers bags of bramble and spice. Deep and rich in texture - a classic Languedoc wine in a refined style. An outstanding bottle in a very nice place.

Manuele Priolo is THE MAN in Roero. He is an extremely intelligent man who knows Roero like no other. Manuele is as an experienced enologo who has worked with many growers and understands like no other every terroir of Roero. On top of this understanding, Manuele is a true fine wine lover. The (2000 bottle) cuvee produced from this heroic vineyard 'Anime Nere' sits on a ridge of the Rocche in Monteu Roero - a small, registered heroic vineyard with south-facing slopes of 35 to 50% and terraces taller than people - this site is literally Manuele's back garden. The Rocche is an incredible rock formation; a series of cliffs and valleys carved by the old path of the Tanaro River. The vineyard itself is comprised of Sabbie di Asti (sand) and Argilla Azzurra dello Zancleano (blue marl). With its steep pitch and literal cliffs on the sides of the vineyard, Vigneto Eroico is one of the most extreme sites in the region. Growers once prized difficult land like this, then turned to easier, inferior sites for ease of production. The appreciation is coming back as more sites such as this are reclaimed each year. Manuele planted the broader vineyard in 1990 via massale selection from a sub-plot with vines from the early 1950s. The Nebbiolo clone from that older plot is unique to Vigneto Eroico and is not known to exist anywhere else: it's unusually well-adapted to drought, requires a longer growing season, and yields wine with low alcohol. It's currently being studied by a famous ampelographer, Anna Schneider, for classification as a new clone of Nebbiolo. It’s also believed to be indigenous to Roero, an adaptation that fits the region - Roero is more arid than Barolo or Barbaresco, and a drought-resistant Nebbiolo clone would have emerged where one was needed. The clone's properties matter more every year as the climate shifts, and once it's properly classified and named, Manuele plans to offer cuttings to any vigneron in the region.

Glorious old vine Mourvedre from the wonderful Yves Falmet (who is as vegan as his wines). Yves has a single, steep vineyard of old vine varieties planted in southern Saint-Chinian. Mourvedre cannot be used 100% and be called Saint Chinian, so this is a Vin de France. Silky, fine and long, with vibrant fruit, great balance and perfect ripeness. An amazing value wine.

A selection of the finest fruit from several vineyards around Radda in Chianti. Macerated for 60 days in concrete and steel. (The long macerations actually help to make the wine more approachable in youth. After extraction, the tannins begin to elongate. The result is something very age worthy that is still approachable now). Then aged for 18 months in French and Austrian oak barrels. Extremely fine and elegant. The 2021 also celebrates 30 years since the arrival of Sean in Tuscany. Vinous: The 2021 Uno (Sangiovese) is a gorgeous, super-classic red from Sean O'Callaghan. Readers will have to be patient with the 2021, as it is a driving, structured wine, its mid-weight structure notwithstanding. The Uno is a fine example of a style and approach very much inspired by the wines of Burgundy. Drink now-2036. 95 points Jancis Robinson MW: Full, juicy and grippy. Not ready but should turn into something distinctive and special. Drink 2027-2040. 17.5+ points The Wine Advocate: The 2021 Uno shows a medium-dark garnet appearance with pretty colour saturation. This is 100% Sangiovese with fruit sourced from the village of Radda. There is a slightly wild side to the bouquet with fresh iris, pressed rose and cassis. Uno does a great job of bringing out both the delicate fruit tones and the floral side of the grape. Its texture is silky, long and polished. Drink now-2036. 94 points

Produced from beautiful organic Muscat grapes grown on a great schist terroir with a top-soil of schistous marl in the commune of Tautavel, facing south-east. The grapes are composed of 80% Muscat Petits Grains and 20% Muscat d'Alexandrie. Yields are very low at around 20 hl/ha. A manual harvest takes place in the morning, when the grapes have an alcoholic potential of 14.5°/15°. Very long direct pressing, at low pressure, followed by coarse settling overnight in the open air. Fermentation takes place in vat, at a temperature of 20-23°C. It is stopped by mutage with certified organic neutral alcohol (representing a maximum of 10% of the final volume). Aging takes place on fine lees, in closed stainless steel vats, sheltered from oxidation. This is the finest and freshest Muscat de Rivesaltes we've found. We are very happy to be shipping this great example from the finest of growers to the UK.

Jancis Robinson MW: 100% Sangiovese picked three weeks before the main harvest. No green harvest. Whole-bunch pressed. Certified organic. Minimum skin contact. Cold-fermented spontaneously in concrete. Natural nose and fresher and more structured than most. More flavour and more acidity than the average Provençal pink. 16.5/20 points

Berene Sauls has a very unique story. Growing up in a small village in the Overberg, Berene admits that she came from a beer-drinking community, and wine was never really on her radar. Her first exposure was at the age of 19, when she began working for the trailblazing Hamilton Russell family as an au pair. Lasting only a month, her talents at childcare aside, Anthony Hamilton Russell recognised her drive and thought a job working in the winery office would better suit her. Thrown in at the deep end knowing really nothing about wine, she was soon exposed to every side of the business - assisting with exports, bottling and labelling, driving forklifts and picking during harvest too, as well as on the side, "growing and developing a palate that wasn't there!" Her curiosity kept her rising through the ranks, and fifteen years after starting her career, Anthony offered her the opportunity to make her first wine, aided by proficient head winemaker Emul Ross. She leapt at the opportunity, and the rest is history. She named her business Tesselaarsdal for the small village that she grew up in, and if you look closely at the label, you can make out two people walking across the mountain. This is Berene and her grandmother. From unirrigated vineyards on the Hemel-en-Aarde Ridge, and this is just her third release! Crisp acidity and lean minerality underpin notes of melon and tangerine fruit and accents of lime blossom. A triumphant expression of terroir, this medium-bodied, cool climate wine is both silky and fresh and boasts a long, elegant finish.

Bright yellow in colour with vibrant citrus, pear and spice notes on the nose. The palate is full but extremely well balanced, with fresh Picpoul acidity and pure fruit flavours.

They name this Eden in tribute to the Garden of Eden and that is what this wine reminds me of, a garden. Ripe peach, flowering orange blossom, fresh cut herbs and cantaloupe. Nice, full texture with a longer, fantastically fruit driven finish.

This Roboul cuvée exudes lifted fruit aromas in abundance with blackberries, blueberries, pomegranates and also gentle garrigue notes. On the palate it is velvety with curious, beautiful interest. There is a perfect balance between alcohol and acidity and it ends with a striking freshness. It's a marvelous wee wine. Full bottle 1,341 g. Single vineyard. 60% Mourvèdre (20 years old), 40% Grenache (30 years old) on pudding stone, clay, sand and limestone tuffeau. Hand-picked; whole-bunch, spontaneous fermentation; minimal cap work; very gently pressed. Fermented separately because the Mourvèdre ripens so much later than the Grenache. 12 months in old oak barrels of 600, 500 and 400 litres. "If I’d not known what this wine was, and put it to my nose, my first guess would be Pinot Noir, Tasmania. Rosehips. Nectarine skin. Hibiscus tea. Morels. Then, after tasting it, I’d change my mind. I’d wonder if this was Cinsault, one of Alex Milner’s wraith-like beauties, perhaps: the bruised rose petals, the jasmine tea, the taste of prickly pears and dust and pungent-peppery-green at the back of my throat. Then I smell garrigue - cistus, broom heather, wild thyme, the smell of the wind blowing through holm oaks and twisted pines and I am in the south of France. This is the fey child of Roussillon. The Pérez Pascuas family has 130 hectares of vineyards in Ribera del Duero, and they achieved organic certification in 2023. From these vineyardsm they produce 600,000 bottles per year. The wines are traditional-modern reds following the classical hierarchy of Crianza, Reserva and Gran Reserva. They are wines for the long haul—ripe and generously oaked—but most are released later than the average in the zone. Dark ruby and very expressive on the nose, with aromas of berries standing out along with delicate aromas of ageing (vanilla, coffee, balsamic notes, toffee). On the palate it is broad, very rich, with succulent tannins. The aftertaste is intense and has a lingering finish. From a breathtaking 0.5 hectare site on Chaban at 400+ metres altitude that was passed on to the Roudier family by the retiring Jean-Marie Teysseire, a legendary figure in Cornas and Saint-Peray. The Syrah vines are 80++ yrs of age on granitic soils including a portion of the mineral baryte, a clear crystal/quartz looking mark that gives the wine its mysterious sounding name. The vines are deeply established on this steep hillside, cut into terraces and oriented East/South-East. An utterly beautiful, natural granite amphitheatre that protects the vines from the cold winds. Beautiful Syrah expresses all its power and finesse on this wonderful Cornas terroir. The debut vintage of this full-bodied terroir wine - which doesn't initially appear to be representative of the "Northern Rhone 2021" vintage - spring frost, harvest rain affected. But from what we have tasted, Cornas in general appears little affected, likely due to the elevation of the vineyards and the gradients of the slopes. So watch out for sleeping Cornas bargains like this from 2021. The wine has a fairly classic Cornas nose, on the palate it is voluminous, lush and suave but fresh and balanced with real tension and energy. The wine is pure and very long. All the fruit destemmed, no oak breeding (all in stainless steel) with a four week maceration. A true terroir wine from a great Cornas site. This 2021 is very impressive now and shall reveal its elegance and finesse over the coming years. What a wine!

A blend of Viognier 40%, Roussanne 40% and White Grenache 20%. 20 year old vines are planted in mixed soils of clay, limestone and round pebbles. Peachy aromas, with a fresh and expressive palate that's juicy and very pleasing. More peach flavour from the Viognier and a weighty mid-palate from the Roussanne. Excellent value for money. Grapes are mechanically harvested and vinification takes place in temperature controlled stainless-steel tanks, with regular stirring of the lees. Natural, biodynamic and vegan. Grenache, Carignan and Mourvedre from 80 year old vines, Made without filtering or fining. Pale but gorgeous mid red colour. At first on the nose, you are like "What even is that?". Whatever it is, you know that you like it. Elegant, subtle fruit is intermixed with gentle herb, earth and savoury characters. Deep and wonderful. On the palate the wine is elegant and deep again, but not heavy in the slightest. Ruffled fruit and savoury notes with minerality and real finesse. These wines are like no other from the Roussillon. Outstanding.

This is lovely, gluggable Nero d'Avola from a sustainable winery in Sicily that is making excellent value certified organic wines for everyday drinking. We'll drink to that!
