17.5/20 Tamlyn Currin, jancisrobinson.com "2023 is the very last vintage produced of this unique Rhône take on Gamay. There is something unavoidably poignant about drinking wine made from a vineyard that no longer exists, from someone’s crazy idea of planting Gamay in the Rhône which then had to be grubbed up at the ripe old age of 40-odd for financial and logistical reasons. This is a sip of quirky history and for that alone it is to be savoured and treasured. But not for that alone. The wine is gorgeous. I’m not sure I would have guessed Gamay if I hadn’t known. Gamay with a Grenache accent? The fruit is bauble round and late-summer ripe. Rose hips, red plums, raspberry tea and freckled with pepper. Kicking can-can tannins doubling down on the pepper. A violet and a sprig of thyme tucked into the envelope before posting. It’s fluvial with elegance. Oh, this really is a wine to lay your hands on before it’s all gone. (TC)"
