Ricossa
What a bargain. Just enough evolution to boast resolved tannins without the fruit being dried out. Lovely cranberry-fresh style, lots of Nebbiolo character with that typical dried-flower note.

Chateau Vincens
A perenial favourite with staff, customers, restaurants and colleges. Simply a great value classic South West wine from Cahors, France. Beautifully sweet cherry pie nose, with oak, flowers, spices, minerals and savoury beetroot notes. Wonderfully fine tannins, great concentration of ripe plums and dried fruits, and a very long finish. Displays real elegance and power. "Spicy aromas offering rich berry fruits give this dense, luxurious wine its structure and concentration. It is smoky, balancing acidity against blackberry flavors. The wine will age and will be ready to drink from 2025". 91/100 Roger Voss in Wine Enthusiast Magazine And also a wonderfully French tasting note in Le Guide Hachette des Vins 2023 "A very expressive Malbec-Merlot duo, open without reserve on very ripe black fruits, supported by a discreet and elegant woodiness. The palate is ample, generous, powerful in hardness, with a nice return of fruit and a long, fresh finish. A most harmonious Cahors which will be appreciated both young and weathered by time".

Sopra Sasso
Classic Valpolicella grapes of Corvina, Corvinone, Rondinella made using the ancient part-dried grape technique to achieve fuller body and smoother tannins. Lush like Amarone but bright, vital and snappy like Valpolicella, indeed it has that classic capsicum brightness. Heavy embossed bottles, looks great. Metro Magazine Top 50 Wines of 2019. Bob Campbell MW 4 stars recommended

E Jamu
A quite unique expression of 100% Canaiolo from Jamu's organic vineyards. Ripening later than their Sangiovese in the latter half of September. The beautiful fruit (a selection of the very best bunches from the vineyard) is picked when perfectly ripe by hand and sorted in small crates. 100% destemmed and gently crushed, the wine is left to ferment on its wild yeasts. Macerated for two weeks with a little, very gentle pump-over daily. The wine is run off to older French tonneaux and left to rest for nine months then put to bottle for a further six months before release. Direct, long and pure wine. Some darker as well as brighter red fruits mix deliciously on a lovely savoury, fresh palate. A must try - think lamb rubbed in rosemary and salt cooked on the grill. Think Sangiovese with lighter tannins. Marvellous wine and a must-try this spring and summer. The legendary and completely wonderful Giampaolo Chiettini helps the young (very young!) Rocco (24!) and his sister Meca (25!) on their beautiful estate in DOC Valdarno di Sopra. A very exciting estate to watch at this embryonic stage.

Alma da Donas
Savoury mulberry, red plum, raspberry, anise, iodine, clove, river stone and all sorts of earthy characters. Clean bright modern winemaking that expresses a grape and region that I'd had mixed results from in the past. Now I get why so many people are raving about these wines.

Domaine Claude Marechale
To quote Allen Meadows; ‘the quality of these wines is nothing short of phenomenal compared to the usual quality of the respective appellations’. Claude Marechal makes his wines as naturally as possible, taking his inspiration from his late friend Henri Jayer who he trained with early in his career. In common with Jayer he makes wines above and beyond the expectations of his terroirs. His wines are pure and sleek with vibrant fruit and great potential to age. In the vineyard ripeness is the watchword and the vines are maintained in order to maximise phenolic maturity every vintage whatever the conditions. No chemical fertilisers are used and the harvest is hand picked each vintage, Claude says he is usually the last in each appellation to pick which shows on the ripe fruited nature of his wines. After harvest the bunches are sorted by hand and gently de-stemmed before vinification using natural yeasts. The fermenting must is pumped over twice daily and once alcoholic fermentation is finished the wines are placed into oak barrels where they mature for between 10 and 15 months. From tastings of back vintages at the domaine it is clear these are wines that are built to age well. Claude has not changed his prices for the 2021 vintage.

Jean-Marc Burgaud
Crazy value. Like a handful of cool crushed berries dripping on to granite. Parker 92 "...pretty aromas of blackberries, peonies and subtle forest floor... velvety and enveloping, with lively acids, velvety tannins and a long, mouthwatering finish... a characterful and viscerally drinkable Beaujolais-Villages that exemplifies all the merits—as well as the incredible value—offered by the appellation at its best." "The more I taste Jean-Marc Burgaud's wines, the more I find to admire... A winemaker at the peak of his powers... one of the region's finest values..."

The new second wine of Ch Haut-Batailley, a Grand Cru Classé in Pauillac. The nose is aromatic and offers intensity, a fine grain as well as a small sensation of tension. Château Cantelys
10% off all Bordeaux wines
This 20ha estate has been owned since 1994 by Florence and Daniel Cathiard, who also own Château Smith Haut Lafitte and are making some of the most exciting, perfectly honed wines in Bordeaux. Their top wines well north of £100 a bottle so this wine appears relatively good value, particulalry since it came out top at a recent Decanter tasting of Red Graves from 2016. Bravo. Planted to 70% Cabernet Sauvignon and 30% Merlot, on mostly gravel soils with some clay. Grapes are handpicked and sorted twice, whole-berry fermented in large oak vats before ageing 14 months in 25% new French oak barrels. This is intense, fruity and a real joy to drink now or keep for another 10 years.
