17.5/20 jancisrobinson.comn "Orange wine from Roussillon. 100% Muscat d’Alexandre, fermented on skins until dry. Cloudy pale golden orange. It smells of citrus peel, of quince bubbling away in a poaching pan, of fallen figs gently fermenting on a hot stone pavement, of night flower. And then you taste it, and it’s enough to take your breath away. Words can wait. If you taste what I taste, you’ll pause and put your glass down. It’s stunning. A thousand folds. Tannins that slip like silk. Fruit pooling at the ankles of long, slim, chisel-chalk bones. Acidity as sharp and invisible as a paper cut. Marmalade, Seville oranges, ginger root, mace and saffron ... glimmering iridescent around corners that your fingers can’t quite catch. Peachy sweetness and flesh juice dripping from apricot lips down throats. A stunning wine. (TC)
