Fresh red apples, white grape skin, some citrus and fresh nettles. Soft notes of oak coming through on the tongue. Good acidity balance. Round and long.

New wine laws from the 2020 vintage prohibit the use of the Appassimento (partial drying) technique for white grapes from Veneto, so sourcing of the Garganega for this lovely wine has moved to Puglia. The blend of Garganega & Sauvignon remains the same, with Sauvignon Blanc still coming from Veneto. Partial maceration with dried grapes and cold fermentation enhances fruitiness and elegant aromatic notes. The change has resulted in even better wine, that's perfect as an aperitif, with delicate first courses or white meats and fish. Vegan.

Pale gold in colour, this Chardonnay shows bright citrus aromas and a flinty minerality, with subtle hints of French oak vanilla. The palate is refined and lively, reflecting the concentration of the 2023 vintage, with fresh lemon flavours, ripe nectarine, crisp acidity, and elegant structure. This Torrontes was created in the lofty heights of the Cafayate Valley in the remote Salta region of Argentina. It is the result of the work of two brothers (hermanos): Osvaldo working the family vineyards, and Rafael making the wines from the wonderfully concentrated grapes that this high altitude yields. Aromatic, full-bodied but extremely fresh and floral owing to its notes of jasmine and orange blossom and with hints of tropical fruits. It is one of the few varieties in which all the aromatic compounds and freshness are in the pulp of the grape.

The Torrontes grapes from which this wine is made are grown 1,800 metres above sea level estate vineyards in Cafayete, Salta – a place the Incas once ruled. The name, Munay is the Quechuan word for love. A juicy wine with floral and stone fruit aromas, fresh and well balanced with acidity and minerality. El Porvenir specialise in Torrontes, Malbec, Tannat and red blends from 45-50 year old vineyards which are amongst the highest in the world at 1900m asl and peopled with 20-foot, 200 year old monster cacti. Colour in the reds here is profound due to the exposure to prolonged mountain sunlight, with soft tannins due in part to the extreme diurnal temperature differences. Winemaker Mariano Quiroga Adamo is one of Argentina’s brightest young winemakers and El Porvenir benefits from the sage involvement of renowned winemaker Paul Hobbs, who has been involved here for many years. The company is run by the energetic Lucia Romero-Marcuzzi and the packaging and labels reflect the Inca Cross which is a common symbol in this part of the Andes.

100% Carignan Gris that was raised in older barrels. It offers that classic cold steel-like character I always find in Carignan Gris, as well as plenty of citrus blossom, bright apple fruit - steely and penetrating. A real one-off. A blend of Genache Blanc, Gris and Noir, from ancient 90 year old vines in the ancient and quite amazing 'C|os des Escounils' that the brothers are developing and working on re-establishing it's other potential vineyard areas. This is beautiful, racy, elegant wine that is softly textured and very ‘modern’ in its freshness and balance.

JancisRobinson.com: 'Dry-farmed at 480 m in Alagni, central Crete. Skin contact for 10 hours for 5% of the grapes that are harvested early and fermented separately. Fermented in tank at 17-19 °C and aged 4 months on lees. TA 5 g/l, pH 3.33, RS 2.18 g/l. Intense aroma of bayleaf and rosemary, dramatically herbal without being green or unripe. The small percentage that had skin contact has given this a brilliantly judged texture, just a very slight grip, so it is not just about the aromatics. Moderate acidity, but freshened by that grip and the low pH. Wonderfully aromatic and so true to the variety, without being a caricature.' (Julia Harding). 17 points
