Il Palazzone
"Enticing combination of reserved freshness and bewitching ripeness here. Dried rose petals, stems, black tea, orange peel, steak tartare and tobacco simmer at the surface. The full-bodied palate has a complete but never overbearing feel, in that the tannins are fine-grained and precise, tracing an elegant positioning of subtle berries and cherries. Suave and polished. Drink now." 95 Points jamessuckling.com

Il Palazzone
The colour is dark ruby and the nose is classic Sangiovese, transporting one instantly to Montalcino. The bouquet is a little tight at first ranging from gentle balsamic notes and a hint of steak. In time it deepens to a delicious herbaceousness, accompanied by mouth-watering aromas of ripe cherry and dark berries. In the background tell-tale floral notes of violets lurk. In the mouth the first impression is of a very pleasant juiciness paired with ripe fruit and seductive well-structured tannins. The mouth-feel is round and silky-smooth with expertly integrated alcohol. It is generously mouth-filling and rewards with a long fruity finish.

Il Palazzone
Decanter 92/100 "The first Riserva released since 2010, Il Palazzone’s 2015 is ethereal and subtle in fragrances with pretty blossoms, herbs and wafts of tea. Midweight, it exhibits Sangiovese’s delightful ability to remain buoyant. Orange and pomegranate grace the palate, which is sprinkled with powdery tannins, while a crunchy, mouth-cleansing cranberry note brings this to a close. It isn’t necessarily the most profound Riserva but it's very easy to like and sports a refreshingly balanced 13.5% alcohol. It begs for pappardelle with duck ragù."

Vigneti del Vulture
What a beauty. An insanely ancient grape variety and wine region - they were making this long before the Romans arrived in the south of Italy. The winemaking, though, is super-modern, the result silky and astonishingly rich. We know that Parker and his team like a big glossy wine and I proudly quote them: "This is a big wine with a capital B" Parker 90/100 of the 2015 vintage (and frankly down in the baked south there's barely any vintage variation) "You gotta love the little spider depicted on the front label of this wine. It refers to the mystical cult of Tarantism practiced in this part of Southern Italy in which a tarantula bite is believed to send women (mostly) into an all-night frenzy. Tarantism is revived and widely popular today as a rave-like dance craze. The 2015 Aglianico del Vulture Piano del Cerro is packaged in a very heavy glass bottle. It pours out slowly to reveal dried blackberry, spice, Spanish cedar and campfire ash. This Aglianico is virtually impenetrable in appearance. The oak-driven tannins are sweet and spicy. This is a big wine with a capital B." Of the 2016 "a smoky and tarry wine showing thick concentration. It has a chewy and rich texture and lots of barbecue spice on the close. From presentation to finish, this has all the trappings of a big boy wine for those who enjoy this sort of heft and meatiness."

Il Palazzone
We've shipped this wonderful 'declassified Brunello' from Il Palazzone for over a decade now. Alway a treat, and an utterly delightful bargain. The wine is 100% Sangiovese Grosso, known in Montalcino as Brunello - all from the estates own Brunello di Montalcino vineyards.

Il Palazzone
Le Due Porte is 540 metres above sea level. Budbreak is later here, often avoiding issues with late frosts and snow. Ripening is slow and constant. The soil profile preserves humidity; important when making a wine such as Brunello that does not contemplate irrigation. Alberese has high levels of calcium carbonate which favors acidity, aided and abetted by the slower ripening and later harvest due to the exposition and altitude. We generally pick Le Due Porte as much as two weeks after our vineyards in Castelnuovo dell’Abate and are often amongst the last in Montalcino to harvest. The grapes develop organoleptic complexity from that extra hang-time and from the pronounced difference between day and night temperatures. In fact the altitude guarantees extreme thermal excursion even in hotter years which is wonderful for aromatic development. Over the last two decades we have seen, year after year, a pronounced character emerge in the fruit from this vineyard, a wine that maintains the typical structure of a Brunello vecchio stampo and epitomises finesse and elegance."

Ricossa
The classic light juicy grape of Piedmont. Clear and fragrant with decent grip, this is perfect for chilled sipping (the wine not you), cured meats, cold cuts, and especially tomato sauces which can be so tricky with richer tannic reds. Like all their range this shouts Piedmont. Exceptionally good value.

Feudi di Guagnano
This modestly priced red from the Negroamaro grape tastes anything but modest in the glass. A warm, sunny, brambly fruit, with slightly bitter chocolate tones and a velvety texture is great on its own and with italian dishes.

Ornellaia
Le Volte dell’Ornellaia combines a Mediterranean expression of generosity with structure and complexity, reflecting the philosophy of Ornellaia. Le Volte dell’Ornellaia is a fine wine for spontaneous wine lovers and needs no ceremony. “Ruby red with purple reflections, Le Volte dell’ Ornellaia 2020 has a vinous bouquet, releasing a complexity of aromas ranging from ripe red fruits, to Mediterranean scrub, up to delicate notes of tobacco and spices. The mouthfeel is soft and silky, but at the same time supported by a lively acidity that gives us a crisp, persistent finish.” Olga Fusari – Winemaker “Grabs you from the first moment your nose hovers over the glass. Smudged charcoal runs into raspberry, underbrush and mandarin orange peel that speaks of Tuscan sun. Excellent quality, good persistency in the glass as it stretches out through the palate. Everything feels in balance, and this provides another indicator that 2020 is a great vintage in this corner of Italy – Le Volte is (almost) 100% Merlot but has freshness and nuance.” 93 points – Jane Anson

Mazzei
The new vintage of Poggio Badiola has arrived! Its brand new label is inspired by the ancient Romanic abbey, La Badiola, which was built in 998 B.C. and overlooks the vineyards of one of the most picturesque hills of Chianti Classico. The addition of Petit Verdot to the blend (65% Sangiovese, 30% Merlot, 5% Petit Verdot ) adds an appetising spiciness and enhances its longevity. The wine spent 10 months in Tonneaux barrels (500 L) allowing the production of a fresher, more modernstyle while the introduction of the natural cork enables further ageing and elevates its quality level. Elegant, fresh red berry flavours, velvety, aromatic and supple.

Renato Corino
This is glorious wine. The aromas are thrilling and uplifting with notes of fine cedar, pencil-lead, polished mahogany, chestnut and fine spice intermingling with the perfectly balanced fruit. The palate has finesse and elegance and drinks sort of like a cross between a fine Margaux and Burgundy. Do not expect big wine, but do expect a great mouthful. It's the best Classico Barolo that Renato Corino has made.

Mazzei
Vermentino di Maremma from Tenuta di Belguardo estate is a medium bodied dry wine, made by 100% of Vermentino white grape. The caracteristic of this wine is its minerality, which is massive thanks to the sea breeze that flows between the bunches in the vineyards , and the limestone soil where the vines grow. Since 1997 Tenuta di Belguardo is owned by Mazzei family, historacally devoted to winemaking. Maremma is a particular zone where probably Vermentino gives its best in Tuscany and the result in this case is a limpid white wine with vanilla and yellow peach notes , all kept fresh with a seam of textured minerality.
