This Roboul cuvée exudes lifted fruit aromas in abundance with blackberries, blueberries, pomegranates and also gentle garrigue notes. On the palate it is velvety with curious, beautiful interest. There is a perfect balance between alcohol and acidity and it ends with a striking freshness. It's a marvelous wee wine. Full bottle 1,341 g. Single vineyard. 60% Mourvèdre (20 years old), 40% Grenache (30 years old) on pudding stone, clay, sand and limestone tuffeau. Hand-picked; whole-bunch, spontaneous fermentation; minimal cap work; very gently pressed. Fermented separately because the Mourvèdre ripens so much later than the Grenache. 12 months in old oak barrels of 600, 500 and 400 litres. "If I’d not known what this wine was, and put it to my nose, my first guess would be Pinot Noir, Tasmania. Rosehips. Nectarine skin. Hibiscus tea. Morels. Then, after tasting it, I’d change my mind. I’d wonder if this was Cinsault, one of Alex Milner’s wraith-like beauties, perhaps: the bruised rose petals, the jasmine tea, the taste of prickly pears and dust and pungent-peppery-green at the back of my throat. Then I smell garrigue - cistus, broom heather, wild thyme, the smell of the wind blowing through holm oaks and twisted pines and I am in the south of France. This is the fey child of Roussillon. Notes of cherry and raspberry, with a sniff of garrigue. A delightful mouthfeel with silky tannins and notes of black fruits and spices, ending with a tangy finish and a good length. Beautiful Syrah and Carignan from the Roussillon grown on gneiss. The Syrah was destemmed and fermented then raised in 5yo oak barrels, The Carignan was fermented whole bunch then raised in stainless steel to preserve it brilliant brightness. A great En Passant.

Domaine du Vieux Telegraphe
An absolute classic. Domaine du Vieux Télégraphe is a family owned and operated estate and is one of the preeminent producers in Châteauneuf-du-Pape. Though one of the largest landowners in the region, they only produce three red and two white wines, of which this is unquestionably the flagship. It is a traditionally styled wine usually comprised of around 65% Grenache Noir, 15% Mourvedre, 10% Cinsault and 10% Syrah from 70-year-old vines in the prime lieu-dit of La Crau.

A well-woven tapestry from across the Côte d’Or, with contributions which include Vosne-Romanée, Pommard, Volnay and Monthélie, and some seasoning from Dames Huguettes in the Hautes-Côtes de Nuits. It’s rounded, ripe, pure and velvety. One-third of the volume is aged in barrel and SO2 levels are kept to a minimum, enhancing the creamy finish.

Rene Bouvier
Le Finage, which means territory, is the name given to this wine from different Marsannay plots. The vines grow on several clay-limestone soils, producing a fully rounded wine, in which you will find energetic tannins, fruity aromas (raspberry), and spices. Consistency and freshness mark the finish of this perfect ambassador for the appellation. We recommend drinking this wine during its dynamic first 5 years, but it can be kept for longer. It may be necessary to decant certain vintages in their first few years. Depending on the vintage, we use 50% whole-bunch fermentation. The wine is aged for about 12 months in barrels (with 15% of new barrels) and 6 months in stainless steel tanks.

Thibault Liger-Belair is constantly pushing the boundaries and knows how to get the different grape and land varieties to work together. Comprising 85% Gamay, ripe aromas of pepper, earth and red and dark currant give way to rich and relatively concentrated middle weight flavors that conclude in a reasonably long finish where hints of warmth and rusticity appear. Domaine Meo Camuzet
One of the finest estates in Burgundy. This is from a single 1.5-hectare plot in the lieu-dit Le Bas de Combe whose location next to Vosne-Romanée is borne out by this wine’s open, lifted bouquet which would be more Vosne than Nuits but for that engaging hint of spice. The oak (50 percent new) is well-integrated and there’s a pleasing roundness to the palate - indeed, this is remarkably complete for such a young wine

Moulin de la Gardette
The Gigondas Tradition is a blend of 80% Grenache, 10% Cinsault and 10% Mourvèdre. 10% is raised in used Burgundian barrels but the majority of the wine has been both fermented and matured in concrete, traditionally in other words. Jean-Baptiste Meunier took over this ancient family estate (dating from 1670) in 1988 and has quietly brought it to its current size of 9 hectares, with some of the Grenache vines now having achieved centurion status. Organic by inclination and with the occasional biodynamic impulse, Jean-Baptiste makes some of the best Gigondas that is available today.

From the website of UK agents Thorman Hunt: Domaine Grosbois is a 9h Domaine run by two brothers, Nicolas and Sylvain. Their family vineyard is located at a place called “The Pressoir” Panzoult in the Chinon appellation in the heart of the Loire Valley. Nicolas arrived at the family estate in 2008, after spending 10 years as a “flying winemaker” and having spent time in New Zealand, Australia, Chile and Oregon. After his time abroad, Nicolas strongly believes in not vinifying and ageing in wood, choosing concrete instead to preserve the freshness and vitality. No old oak has been used since 2015. Sylvain similarly spent time abroad in Chile, Oregon working for Domaine Drouhin and Australia. The brothers are passionate about organic viticulture and show their wines at The Raw Wine Fair. The Gabare cuvée comes from the old vines of a clay limestone vineyard. The grapes are destemmed and undergo a 2 to 3 day cold maceration. The wines undergo a 20 day cuvaison in concrete tanks and are then also aged in concrete.

A great baby Rhône from the brilliant Brunier Family who make the famous Châteauneuf-du-Pape - Vieux Telegraphe. Pigeoulet comes from two separate parcels, 10 hectares on the lower southwest facing slopes of Mont Ventoux and 3 hectares on the east bank of the Rhône, 15km north of Avignon. The blend is 80% Grenache, 10% Syrah and 10% Carignan and Cinsault and aging is in foudres for 12 months.

Domaine Gavignet
A wonderful example of the 2022 vintage. Purity of fruit, wonderful aromatics and a delicate, ethereal quality. From UK agent Thorman Hunt: Philippe Gavignet and his son Benoit create Nuits-Saint-Georges with a profound elegance, countering the appellation’s reputation for often delivering more “rustique” wines. Gavignet’s wines are a testament to the terroir’s potential for producing refined Burgundy. Established in 1979, with state-of-the-art cellars built only a couple of years ago, we were treated to a fantastic tasting. Most of Philippe Gavignet’s Pinot Noir vines are notably old, with the majority planted during the 1930s and 1950s. The vineyards are cultivated as naturally as possible, steering clear of herbicides and pesticides. Hand-harvesting is a standard practice, and the wines undergo aging in a combination of new and older French oak barrels, with no more than one-third being new oak. All wines are bottled unfined and unfiltered. Interestingly, Gavignet remains somewhat of an insider’s gem, overshadowed by more prominent names in the village that command higher prices.

"I put this glass of wine to my nose, and had I not been firmly anchored to a chair, would have taken five steps back. The aroma swept me off my feet. Indescribable. Wild. One Thousand and One Nights distilled into a glass. Heady and exotic and riddled with rose petals and spice and coiled with riddles and one sniff of this is poetry and myth and folklore and kitchen table and campfire and someone's cigarette stubbed out at 3 am in lonely finality. Garrigue-spiced aromatics spiral through rock, plant, seed, flower with dazzling complexity. One moment it's rose petals, so delicate you could brush a baby's lips with it; the next it's hot tar, underground angry, rocks shifting deep in the cracks of the earth. This is a velvety, cocoa-dusted, amped-up-then-restrained, dark-horse beauty. Vertical, dark, slub-silk fruit with overtones of tamari and dark chocolate, crushed coffee beans and sweet forest-floor earth. Long and the kind of wine that coils around you slowly, sinuously, sensuously. Worth every penny. You'd pay three times this for a Rhône of this stature". Mas Lumen
Final assemblage: 55% Syrah, 35% Carignan & Cinsault and 15% Grenache Noir. Organically grown on schist, basalt and grés (sandstone) that yielded beautifully balanced fruit but at a very low 15 hl per ha. Manual harvest into small caskets. The Syrah and Grenache were both destemmed and vinified separately in 2yr and 5yr old 500l barrels (Saury). The Carignan was vinified on stems and in steel tank. The Cinsault was destemmed and vinified in steel tank. Natural yeast (no inoculated yeast used). Breeding took place in 2yr and 5yr old 500l barrels (Saury) for the Syrah and Grenache, and in steel tank for the Cinsault and Carignan, for a total time of 32 months with no batonnage. Bottled without fining or filtration. Bottled with a very, very low addition of sulphites (no sulphite additions at any point previously). No other additions at all. The wine has interest, complexity and depth, it is beautifully resolved - an elegant and pretty red-fruited wine with delightful freshness and length. With this quality and with the wines age, it’s a very nice offer indeed. The wine was selected (with one of the very highest scores) as one of 80 ‘Coups de Coeur’ by Guide Gault & Millau for the year 2020 Review below - "The colour appears black, intense with purple reflections. The nose presents an elegant maturity with predominantly fruity cherry and blackberry punctuated by spicy notes (pepper, cinnamon). In the mouth, the cherry is very present with other stone fruits (plum, prune). The leather and cocoa prolong a very fresh and digestible finish. The texture is dense and velvety. A complex and racy wine that evolves beautifully without losing its beautiful tension".

The name Champigny supposedly derives from the Latin campus igni (field of fire), named for the area’s exceptionally warm microclimate. 100% Cabernet Franc, this Saumur Champigny sees no oak giving a light, fresh style with abundant red cherry fruit. This is from the same producer as our superb Crémant.

Chateau Haut Boutisse
Château Haut Boutisse, Saint Emilion Grand Cru, is a family property that has existed since the middle of the 19th century. Located on the foothills of Saint Emilion, the soil (Graves, clay-limestone and sandy loam) is similar to the greatest properties in Saint-Emilion.. A beautiful garnet colour. The complex nose presents a beautiful synergy between aromas of jammy strawberry and rose accompanied by fine smoky notes and dried figs. The mouth has a very nice balance between volume and freshness. The harvest is done manually. Vinification is a cold pre-fermentation maceration followed by alcoholic fermentation in temperature-controlled stainless steel vats with pumping over/punching down. The wine is aged for 15 months in new barrels (90%) and concrete vats (10%).

Chateau Haut Nouchet
Pessac-Leognan, just south of the city of Bordeaux, features gravel-rich soils that produce wines with excellent clarity and definition. Odyssée is a cuvée by Château Haut Nouchet, and its vines are some of the highest elevation in the appellation. The blend is about 60/40 Cabernet Sauvignon/Merlot, with a splash of Petit Verdot. We found this wine impressive in its combination of intensity and restraint. The nose is dark and polished with plum and wild cherries, and notes of liquorice and spice. The mouth is inky and dark but the fruit is laid over a beautifully clean structure of fine gravely tannin. This is a classy, sleek Bordeaux with a beautifully balanced mouthfeel, that tastes a lot more expensive than it is.

Chateau Tour Saint Christophe
Jean Christophe Meyrot, ex La Violette (one of the top properties in Pomerol) . Full on but good structure. Juicy palate. Certainly ripe. Warm, good acid, persistent. More powerful than elegant. Forthright. Dark ruby color with black fruit notes like blackberries and black cherries, violet and dry herbs, leather and black pepper, nice minerality and French oak, some vanilla and tobacco. Nice balance and structure with a long finish.

Second wine of the excellent Le Pin Beausoleil. Guide Hachette 1 star "raspberry, wild strawberry, blackcurrant and violet: here is a pretty spring bouquet.
