Superbly elegant Meursault. Nothing thick or cloying to this wine. Brioche and vanilla on the nose and palate. Gentle layer of lemon hovering over events with a sliver of oak making up an incredibly structured wine. Lovely texture.

A classy Chardonnay from organic vines planted on chalky soils, just 29km from the Pacific Ocean in Chile's Limarí Valley. Fresh citrus aromas with hints of peach. An appealing cool climate style, combining crisp acidity with cool minerality and zingy citrus fruits, rounded out with a touch of vanilla creaminess from light oaking (55% of the wine is aged in mostly used French oak for 10 months).

As with their Dédicace Chenin, the acidity feels softer and more muted than I’ve come to expect with R-B wines, but there is a firm hazelnut and walnut framework around the fruit, so the texture and structure is there. This wine comes from two complimentary vineyards within a close proximity of our vineyard and winery. Each parcel of chardonnay was direct-pressed then cold settled before racking to French barrique and puncheon barrels (10% new) for fermentation and maturation for 9 months. Some battonage was used during maturation. There is a tight freshness here, with white stone fruits and a healthy dose of lemon on both the nose and palate. Gorgeous length too, helped by a touch of gentle oak and lees complexity. It all adds up to a beautiful, understated wine, but with plenty going on under the hood. Serve at 12c. "This is a combination of a Balhannah vineyard and a Piccadilly vineyard; an ‘off estate’ wine. It has the right pluck and charm to take you on a journey while satisfying your itch for fine chardonnay. Depth, vigour, excitement, drinkability all in the right spots. Quite a bit of honey-nougat in the wine though the coursing push of brine and crushed rock minerality elevates things and pierces the palate. There’s nectarine, white peach, green pear in the mix too. It’s marries the seasoning of the winery impeccably in apt, medium bodied fruit flavours. Lovely small-estate, mineral, citrusy Chablis, just as it should be. Crying out for seafood or just good company.

Pascal Fournillon is a sweet-natured man, always happy when people find him in the sleepy hamlet of Bernouil, some 10 miles north-east of Chablis town. His mum also makes the best gougeres if you need further incentive. Pascal's vineyards cover some 23 hectares of land in the appellations of Chablis, Chablis 1er Cru and Epineuil. He is bottling more and more of his own wine rather than selling in bulk and this means we have access to good allocations of Chablis that Pascal is happy to age for us for a few years till it is perfect to drink. This Bourgogne Chardonnay is from vineyards near Chablis and bears all the hallmarks of it; steely, lemony, fine and elegant.

100% Chardonnay grown on limestone slopes in the best areas of the Macon. Made by the excellent Buxy cooperative, in stainless steel tanks then bottled after several months on lees. Floral and citrus notes, mouthwatering acidity and lovely long flavour. A superb introduction to White Burgundy this overdelivers for its price.

This excellent white Burgundy comes from the intermediate clay/limestone slopes in the commune of Montagny. Very complex aromas on the nose, with successive fruity, floral and mineral hints, with particular menthol and lemon overtones. A full-bodied and rich wine with amazing finesse and delicate aromas.

Slight copper hue, spicy, ripe fruit, crème brulée, full-flavoured but delicate & charming. Fine persistent mousse. Totally enjoyable and quite typical of the black-grape dominated Montagne de Reims style.
