Chateau Rives-Blanques
Super-tangy, bracing nose chock-full of character. This producer's unusually good still Mauzac helps to interpret the fizz and this wine really benefits from not being sweetened up the way so many Blanquettes de Limoux are. Very substantial undertow. Tastes like a mix of confit lemons and metal polish - in a good way! Firm and long. Real grip on the palate. A really interesting sparkling wine with its own unique character. GV

Serious quality. Beautiful wine. Named after the Bruce Springteen song "Promised Land". A wild-ferment wine made from Macabeu, Grenache gris and Carignan blanc. Fermented and aged on lees in barrels for 9 months. It has a complex nose of river stones, quince and buttered toast. The palate combines flavours of pears and citrus with a long, spicy finish. Pale colour with aromas of strawberries and cream. Summer fruits, fresh lively style with crisp acidity, creaminess and a well balanced finish. The Flying Solo range flies in the face of convention, shunning international varieties in favour of the typical Mediterranean Grenache grape which forms its backbone, blended Cinsault. It celebrates the intrepid ‘Aéropostale’ pilots who risked life and limb to ensure postal deliveries in the 1920s

Domaine Comelade
Lionel Comelade produces this stunning wine from ancient vine Macabeu and Grenache Gris grown on amazing black and white schist soil vineyards between Estagel and Latour de France in the Roussillon. Both white grapes were harvested later in the season in 1988 with high sugar levels. The grapes were partially fermented in concrete vats and then neutral brandy was added to stop fermentation and keep natural sweetness in the wine. Then the wine was passed to second use oak barrels and left in the cellar for 32 years before bottling (to order). No ‘topping up’ of the barrels occurred in the 32 years. The wine is tremendous, possibly surpassing the 1987. It is ‘ambre’ in colour. A bright, wild nose with orange rind, orange oil and warm spices. The pallet is thrilling with great complexity and depth with thrilling, wild acidity which really charms. Astonishing and quite unique. The wine is one of the best value fortified wines in the world. 32 years of age, so interesting and delicious. A steal at this price.

Domaine Gayda
"Intense with a luminous ruby colour and garnet nuances, the nose reveals elegant notes of ripe black fruits and fresh red fruits, notes of black cherries and raspberry. Complex spicy notes and fine mineral smoky touches, a light and elegant infusion at low temperature. The palate is soft and light, the fruity and gourmet flavours dominate. Mineral and smoky touches bring freshness and highlight beautiful tender and perfectly integrated tannins. The result is balanced with a persistent long finish. " Dominique Laporte, Meilleur Sommelier de France, Meilleur Ouvrier de France Sommelier De-stemmed harvest - Natural vinification without the addition of sulphur - Very light extraction - Infusion, at low temperature - 15 days maceration before pressing - Only the free-run juice is kept. Danjou-Banessy
This Roboul cuvée exudes lifted fruit aromas in abundance with blackberries, blueberries, pomegranates and also gentle garrigue notes. On the palate it is velvety with curious, beautiful interest. There is a perfect balance between alcohol and acidity and it ends with a striking freshness. It's a marvelous wee wine. Full bottle 1,341 g. Single vineyard. 60% Mourvèdre (20 years old), 40% Grenache (30 years old) on pudding stone, clay, sand and limestone tuffeau. Hand-picked; whole-bunch, spontaneous fermentation; minimal cap work; very gently pressed. Fermented separately because the Mourvèdre ripens so much later than the Grenache. 12 months in old oak barrels of 600, 500 and 400 litres. "If I’d not known what this wine was, and put it to my nose, my first guess would be Pinot Noir, Tasmania. Rosehips. Nectarine skin. Hibiscus tea. Morels. Then, after tasting it, I’d change my mind. I’d wonder if this was Cinsault, one of Alex Milner’s wraith-like beauties, perhaps: the bruised rose petals, the jasmine tea, the taste of prickly pears and dust and pungent-peppery-green at the back of my throat. Then I smell garrigue - cistus, broom heather, wild thyme, the smell of the wind blowing through holm oaks and twisted pines and I am in the south of France. This is the fey child of Roussillon. This is a wine that dances in the thin places". Very Good Value. Tamlyn Currin on jancisrobinson.com 18/20 jancisrobinson.com

l'Ancienne Mercerie
89 points Wine Advocate "a blend of Syrah, Grenache, Carignan and Mourvèdre that was brought up all in concrete tanks. It has a classic, slightly earthy style in its leather, sweet black and blue fruits and peppery herb aromas and flavors. This gives way to a plump, sweetly fruited, mouthfilling red that's ideal for drinking over the coming 3-4 years."

Domaine Madeloc
A Traditional Banyuls, sweet, complex and marvellous, aged partly in glass bonbonnes which are exposed to the sun to achieve rancio characters, and part in old foudre. Banyuls Robert Pages is a blend of Grenache (90%) and Grenache Gris (10%). With 80 g/l residual sugar, this traditional style is a striking, fleshy wine with complex aromas of baked plums, dried figs, bitter orange, coffee, vanilla and spices. Incredibly complex and layered, the palate is opulent, round and sweet yet with a fresh and pure nutty finish. It is an excellent match with blue cheeses such as Roquefort or Gorgonzola or with a cheese plate in general.

Winemaker Vincent writes "For this 2016 vintage, the quality of our Cabernet Franc was outstanding. During the fermentation process one small batch in oak tank was so pure that we extended the maceration, more like an infusion, to see how the wine would develop with prolonged contact with the grape skins… This experience resulted in an infusion lasting 180 days (normally 20 to 30 days) with eventual pressing of the grapes on the 10th April 2017, during the Easter full moon! Domaine des Trinités
A wonderful, natural Rose. Produced from very old vines of Cinsault, Grenache and Mourvedre (40/40/20) on ancient schist soils In Faugeres. Deep in colour, and with good presence, but certainly not a heavy style. Bright, clear red fruits with some spice and nice interest. That wonderful mineral freshness rounds things off nicely. Georges Puig - Domaine Puig Parahy
Established in 1446, Etienne Parahy is known as the first owner of the vineyards and the estate 'Puig Parahy'. In those near 600 years, the estate has passed through 19 generations to current owner and vigneron Georges Puig (the first son of each new generation is named 'Georges'). Nestled in Les Aspres region, a wonderful mixed-soil and fresh terroir of the Roussillon which is found between Mt. Canigou and the Mediterranean sea. The estate has a rich history producing outstanding rancio sweet wines that develop and live for decades, sometimes even centuries. Bottles from the 1800s are still available today. The estate was replanted in 1878 after phylloxera wiped out all of the vineyards. Many of these vines are still producing wonderful old vine fruit of outrageous quality that is carefully and naturally handled to produce a great range of dry table wines and VdNs of many styles. This is special wine. Ancient vines of Carignan, Grenache and Mourvedre and native, wild yeasts from this historic Roussillon estate have produced this pale, bright and gorgeous mid-red coloured wine - looking exactly like a current hipster favourite. The nose is alive with prickly bright fruits intermixed with beautiful secondary and tertiary aromas of old books, furniture and childhood memories of churches and other magnificent and curious things of wonder. The palate is equally as interesting and as equally sparkly bright and refreshing. But so rewarding, resolved and complex. An utter marvel from this unsung fresh terroir in the magnificent Roussillon.

Terres Falmet
Glorious old vine Mourvedre from the wonderful Yves Falmet (who is as vegan as his wines). Yves has a single, steep vineyard of old vine varieties planted in southern Saint-Chinian. Mourvedre cannot be used 100% and be called Saint Chinian, so this is a Vin de France. Silky, fine and long, with vibrant fruit, great balance and perfect ripeness. An amazing value wine. "Yves Falmet is doing something so special that people should be sitting up and taking notice. I’m becoming convinced that he is making some of the most elegant wines in the Languedoc. His 2020 Mourvèdre is yet another confirmation of his almost wizard-like ability to make a cashmere silky, jewelled-fruit wine out of a grape that I usually find stomps in heftily, wearing a scowl, muddy steel-toe-cap boots and thick dark canvas overalls, smoking a Gauloises, smelling of farmyard and uttering not much in an unintelligible mutter. This wine smells of jasmine, violet and pomegranate molasses. Sure, there is a lick of smoke, but it’s folded into deeply sweet dark fruit – blueberry, black fig, blackberry – and a sheath of tissue-paper-and-600-thread-cotton-textured tannins". Domaine Gayda
"Gritty, granular, savoury. The sunflower seeds and meadow hay on the nose fold into pear puree and gem squash and roasted marrow on the palate – gentle, comforting, subtle with the warm, rounded, wholesome embrace of roasted white and green squash, a sprinkle of spice, a drizzle of olive oil. But there is also a pickled-jalapeño bite that builds into a salty tang-tempered clamp on the finish." (TC) 17/20 Jancis Robinson, May 2021, Grenache Gris 2018 "Bright straw yellow colour with silvery nuances, the nose offers a beautiful aromatic intensity around elegant fruity notes, white fruits, citrus peel, fresh floral touches and a slightly smoky mineral hint. The mouth is pleasant and pure, marked by a superb tension which brings freshness, saline touches and ample flavours brought by a magnificent aging on lees which prolong the persistence with harmony and elegance. Terres Falmet
Cinsault is one of Languedoc’s ancient grape varieties, on the verge of extinction and which, wrongly, has been much maligned. When grown in a quality vineyard site and deftly crafted in the winery, it produces very compelling, refined red wines. This is a crisp, fresh, silky wine, underscored by very fine tannins. Full bottle 1,156 g. Certified HVE. Yves Falmet is deeply committed to chemical-free farming. 100% Cinsault from three plots of bush-wine Cinsault on his large unbroken hillside vineyard, which is entirely classified under the St-Chinian appellation (the wine can't be labelled St-Chinian because it is 100% Cinsault) on stony limestone. The grapes are harvested ultra ripe, by hand. Destemmed, lightly crushed, fermentation and hot maceration (about 25 °C) in tank for three weeks, with twice daily pumping over. The wines are drawn off in October, then racked twice over the following months. In tank for about five months with no fining and very light filtration. "Every time I taste a Cinsault like this, I want to make a public declaration that the world has got Cinsault wrong. It's not a blending component, or a rosé-wine grape, or a grape that should be expressed in any way other than this silky-fine, translucent, ephemerality. It really is the Pinot of the south. The tannins are like a little silk slip, almost falling off the gentle rosehip-red, cherry-ripe fruit. The finish has the sweet minty breath of an early summer morning. Almost painfully underpriced!". Very Good Value. Tamlyn Currin on jancisrobinson.com 17/20 jancisrobinson.com
