Vincent Girardin
The Bourgogne Blanc 'Terroir Noble' comes from vines all situated in the communes of Puligny, Chassagne and Meursault. Lovely and fresh with aromas of ripe lemon, apple and pear with a floral hint. Rich with stone fruits, melted butter and a creamy richness that linger on the finish. There’s lots of freshness and minerality. An exceptional value-to-quality Bourgogne Blanc from one of the great estates in Burgundy.

Vincent Dureuil Janthial
A warmer, east facing site on richer soils, with vines planted in 1997. One of the most exceptional, exciting (yet reliable) rising stars of Burgundy. Allocations are tight, as ever. The 2018s are beautiful, as ever. Yet the wines are still remarkably affordable, and for the same old reason: he's based in the Côte Chalonnaise. As one local vigneron put is "you'd think these vines were on another planet, not 8km from those of Puligny". The vineyards of the Chalonnaise will always suffer, reputationally, from being in the 'wrong' department: Saone-et-Loire rather than Cote d'Or (the border is 2.5km south of Puligny) Anyhow, neither nature nor winemaking genius respect political boundaries - good news for us. The superstar of the Cote Chalonnaise. Every wine a joy. Vigneron of the Year 2019 La Revue du Vin de France “If I see his name on a wine list, I don’t give it a second thought and simply order his wine.” – Jean-François Coche (of £500-£1000 a bottle Meursault fame, ranked by Parker as one of the best winemakers in the world).

Domaine Gayda
Winemaker Vincent Chansault is particularly happy with this 7th release of Villa Mon Reve, Gayda's top, single vineyard Syrah from a beautiful site high up in La Liviniere. Extrememly limited. One for Cote-Rotie lovers. The 'Dream House' in question was built by the owner in the vineyards for his ailing wife to spend her last days. She miraculously recovered and her story inspired Vincent to make his dream wine from Syrah in La Liviniere.

Domaine Gayda
A very special wine. Winemaker Vincent comes from the Loire Valley so knows about Chenin from there and time making wine in South Africa. Chenin originated in the Languedoc so bringing it back is exciting. The wine is fermented in egg shaped concrete fermenting tanks, which allows better movement of liquid during and after fermentation than in stainless steel. Some barrel ageing too for texture. Well balanced with a purity of fruit enhanced by its roundness and length.. Highy recommended.

The 2020 En passant sees an exciting new blend debuting after a few vintages of a similar blend. The 2020 is Muscat from altitude in the Roussillon on clay limestone and Roussanne from high in the Minervois grown on schist soil. The Muscat is bred in a mixture of stainless steel vat and clay amphiora and the Roussanne in stainless steel vat. Grapes from are pressed slowly in whole bunches - very gentle racking - vinificaton without sulphur, at low temperature - ageing on lees. And what a lovely wine it is - light and clean wine, of fresh apricot and peach with a floral and honeyed nose. A lovely, long length that leaves a mouthwatering shimmer that really charms. Bravo Vincent Chansault!

Plaimont
Located in the heart of Gascony, the Domaine d'Aula vineyard enjoys the influence of the rain protection of the Pyrenees mountains to the south and the maritime influence of the Atlantic to the west. This provides the ideal climate for producing aromatic, well-balanced wines with character and intensity. This Rosé wine, made from local grape varieties as well as better known Merlot, has aromas of redcurrant and red berries, lots of berry flavours and a nice citrusy kick. Drink on its own (it's ridiculously easy to enjoy!) or with tapas, salads and barbecues.

Domaine Gayda
Winemaker Vincent writes "For this 2016 vintage, the quality of our Cabernet Franc was outstanding. During the fermentation process one small batch in oak tank was so pure that we extended the maceration, more like an infusion, to see how the wine would develop with prolonged contact with the grape skins… This experience resulted in an infusion lasting 180 days (normally 20 to 30 days) with eventual pressing of the grapes on the 10th April 2017, during the Easter full moon! Domaine des Soulanes
Like a great Provence, but one from an actual great terroir and not just sandy soils. This year Syrah and Carignan joining the Grenache and Mourvedre of the outstanding debut in 2020 which garnered high praise from critics and customers. In the words of one customer "“You’ll be pleased to know you weren’t wrong with that Rosé (Dom. des Soulanes Cuvee Rosé). It is one of the best I have ever tasted and I’ve tasted a few, many with a much bigger price tag. Actually I prefer it to Garrus (£100), d’Esclans (£30). How much more have you got?”" Published on decanter.com in June 2022: Domaine des Soulanes, Rosé, Côtes du Roussillon, Languedoc-Roussillon, France 2021 "The delicate, somewhat restrained nose hides a fine wine on the palate. It's a slightly darker pink in colour in the glass, too. Exuberant and playful in the mouth, with bowls of fresh cranberries, white raspberries and goji berries. A tangy citrus and lemon thyme note on the finish leaves you suitably refreshed and ready for the next sip. This may even have some intriguing potential for ageing. Certified organic, hand harvested". 90/100 Drinking Window 2022 - 2025

Old vine Grenache grown on decomposed black schist with a limestone sub soil with some quartz, that produces something amazing. Ethereal, sublime and fesh, this achieves a level of finesse akin to fine red Burgundy. Remarkable, special, very good indeed.

Domaine des Schistes
Grown on rocky schist soils in the commune of Estagel. West to north-west exposure. The vineyard is called 'Poux Baly'. A beautiful, bright blend of Vermentino 38%, Grenache Gris 34% and Maccabeu 28% that is utterly delicious and versatile. Medium weight with a fine, fresh length. Harvested at night into small crates and made very naturally and fermented in steel vats, with only one small addition of sulphites before bottling. Malolactic fermentation is blocked to keep the bright freshness.

A blend of Genache Blanc, Gris and Noir, from ancient 90 year old vines in the ancient and quite amazing 'C|od des Escounils' that the brothers are developing and working on re-establishing it's other potential vineyard areas. This is beautiful, racy, elegant wine that is softly textured and very ‘modern’ in its freshness and balance.

Domaine Treloar
A big favourite of ours for a decade from one of our handful of world-class Roussillon growers. "It says Mourvèdre on the front label but it's actually only 75% of that rich, spicy variety, apparently, plus 20% Syrah and 5% Grenache. Yield was only 20 hl/ha on pebbly clay-limestone at 150–200 m in the middle of the Aspres cru. Aged for 12 months in American oak barriques (20% new). Total SO2 47 mg/l. The back label says 14% but the tech spec says 13.4% alcohol. Deep healthy crimson. Headily scented ripe blackberry cordial (Mourvèdre all right!). Admirably fresh palate with a lightness of touch. Gentle, approachable fruit with an interesting undertow. Racy. (Which is good!) A certain meatiness in Mourvèdre vein but not excessively warm and alcoholic. Quite long. A very pleasing whole." 16.5/20 Tamlyn Currin jancisrobinson.com

Vincent Girardin
Les Gravières premier cru is on Santenay's border with Chassagne-Montrachet. It gets a bit more sun than most of the commune, and is one of the best Santenay vineyards, for both reds and whites. While the excellent Vincent Girardin is better known for whites, this Pinot is nonetheless reliable, and good value for Burgundy in this particularly good vintage. Plenty of red berry fruit, with earth and subtle spice. It is tangy and vibrant, still youthful. Soft and with lots of savoury interest.

Vincent Girardin
Vincent Girardin is excellent. This is a benchmark Cote de Beaune in my book and one of the best Chardonnays in the world. The nose has baked apple, creme brulee, toasted brioche, flint, and lemon curd. The palate has cream and lemon peel, with exceptional crushed stone minerality. Paired with comte, this took on a rich white chocolate note that was just amazing. Amazing intensity, complexity, and length, with perfect balance.

Vincent Girardin
Macôn villages from Vincent Girardin, a producer that’s had momentum lately with his Burgundy whites. Golden yellow colour in the glass, and aromas of lemon, marzipan, butter popcorn, and white flowers. Smooth and steely palate of oil, lemon, barley, and iced oolong tea. Full mouthfeel with medium+ acidity and a medium-short finish of lemon juice and saline sour apple notes. Always enjoy a village burgundy that punches a weight class above. Solid value for money

Domaines des Schistes
Grown on Schistose marls resting on the southern limestone foothills of the Massif des Corbières limit between the Pyrénées Orientales and the Aude. Altitude 220m. A majority of Carignan, very little Grenache Noir, even less Syrah from a 70 year old plot of vines. Manual harvest, wild ferment. Whole bunch maceration for a period of fifteen days, conservation of the cap of damp marc by daily wetting. Very little extraction, rather an infusion. This makes a beautiful light-footed wine. Amazing, bright and red-fruited vigorous Carignan. Like nothing we've tasted before. An utter marvel.

Outstanding. Floral, herbal and gorgeous bright red and black fruit on the nose, The palate is divine with it's exquisite purity and balance. Great at the table with both savoury and sweet dishes. Published on decanter.com June 2022: Domaine des Soulanes, Grenat, Maury, Languedoc-Roussillon, France 2021 93/100 "Super ripe and fruity aromas, piles of cherries, plums and currants. Mouth-watering and succulent, with great freshness encircling the sweetness. The fortification is well integrated and it has tempting structural tannins and good freshness, making it very vinous. A great wine to experiment with food pairings across the spectrum of courses - from savoury to sweet". Drinking Window 2022 - 2035

Guy Vanlanker's best cuvée (and still under £20 - one of the best wines in the Languedoc!) from low yielding Syrah and Grenache vines. 24 months in old oak gives the wine time to shed its tannic cloak. This is a wine of power, elegance and depth, a real Grand Cru of the region.

Mas Lumen
Final assemblage: 55% Syrah, 35% Carignan & Cinsault and 15% Grenache Noir. Organically grown on schist, basalt and grés (sandstone) that yielded beautifully balanced fruit but at a very low 15 hl per ha. Manual harvest into small caskets. The Syrah and Grenache were both destemmed and vinified separately in 2yr and 5yr old 500l barrels (Saury). The Carignan was vinified on stems and in steel tank. The Cinsault was destemmed and vinified in steel tank. Natural yeast (no inoculated yeast used). Breeding took place in 2yr and 5yr old 500l barrels (Saury) for the Syrah and Grenache, and in steel tank for the Cinsault and Carignan, for a total time of 32 months with no batonnage. Bottled without fining or filtration. Bottled with a very, very low addition of sulphites (no sulphite additions at any point previously). No other additions at all. The wine has interest, complexity and depth, it is beautifully resolved - an elegant and pretty red-fruited wine with delightful freshness and length. With this quality and with the wines age, it’s a very nice offer indeed. The wine was selected (with one of the very highest scores) as one of 80 ‘Coups de Coeur’ by Guide Gault & Millau for the year 2020 Review below - "The colour appears black, intense with purple reflections. The nose presents an elegant maturity with predominantly fruity cherry and blackberry punctuated by spicy notes (pepper, cinnamon). In the mouth, the cherry is very present with other stone fruits (plum, prune). The leather and cocoa prolong a very fresh and digestible finish. The texture is dense and velvety. A complex and racy wine that evolves beautifully without losing its beautiful tension".

Vincent Girardin
Vincent Girardin exists today as one of the smaller Burgundy negociant houses, owning 13 hectares of prime vineyards with contracts to buy high-quality fruit from another 85 hectares, many of which they have direct control over. The result is an impressive range of very well made wines from a number of Burgundy's best villages. Their Bourgogne Blanc is, thanks to Burgundy's strict vineyard classifications, something of a bargain as the fruit is all sourced from Puligny, Chassagne and Meursault (hence 'Terroir Noble') but it can't be known by any of these famous names. The quality of the fruit however speaks for itself and this is a very elegant, focussed example of Cote de Beaune Chardonnay.

Domaine Treloar
A blend of Grenache, Syrah and Mourvedre with a light touch of oak from ageing in older barriques. The Mourvedre is noticeable in the aroma of leather.Full mouth, velvety soft, aromatic purity of fruit, flowers and wood. Full bottle 1,166 g. Old vines, hand-picked. "Strikingly unusual nose – I can smell guava jam (something I haven’t smelt in 27 years) and tamarillo, rose hips and wood polish, and a tiny, intense floral note that makes me think of walking in the garden on a hot summer night. Wonderful freshness. It has the cool rustle of walking through russet leaves in autumn woodland. A touch of tamarind paste, white pepper, za’atar, baharat. I love the sense of metal sculpture I get in this wine – it’s not that I am literally tasting iron or rust or copper or pewter, but when I taste this wine, it’s like the wine version of a Rochelle Ford metal sculpture. It carries in its molecules the twist and sinews of the old vine trunks, the battering and weathering of nature and time, the glow of a thousand sunsets, edges and angles, sheen and rust, rain and dust".
