Domaine Danjou-Banessy
Energy is a word used a lot by the finest Roussillon growers. We don't think there has been a finer example than this extraordinary wine from the freres Danjou. The 2020 is more 'Cote-Rotie' than the 'Crozes like' 2018. A thrilling wine.

Dom. des Soulanes
A rare bottling from the cellars at Soulanes of a barrel of fortified Grenache Blanc that was left along for 16 years with no topping up. The wine is amber in colour now. The nose is wild, thrilling and utterly complex. The palate is bright, wild, long and quite brilliant. Here in tiny quantities. Grab now.

Domaine Rolly-Gassmann
Rolly-Gassmann is a domaine like no other and has a unique style. It is located at Rorschwihr, a sleepy village on the northern rim of Haut-Rhin. The vineyards are located in Rorschwihr and the neighbouring Rodern and Bergheim. The wines are small masterpieces with very good definition. They all carry the signature of Rolly-Gassmann, a certain shameless, velvety sweetness. The fruit is rich and manages to balance the fruit with a vibrant acidity to form wines that melt on the palate.

Domaine Combe Blanche
Guy Vanlanker's best cuvée (and still under £20 - one of the best wines in the Languedoc!) from low yielding Syrah and Grenache vines. 24 months in old oak gives the wine time to shed its tannic cloak. This is a wine of power, elegance and depth, a real Grand Cru of the region.

Cave de Hunawihr
Sheltered from oceanic influence by the Vosges Mountains, the Alsace wine region enjoys practically the lowest rainfall in France (only 400-500mm per year) and is blessed with a semi-continental climate, sunny, hotand dry. These optimal weather conditions, along with a nice and cool fall season, allow the grapes to ripen slowly and to develop an amazing complexity of aromas.

Domaine Zind-Humbrecht
This is an astonishing and almost perfect expression of Gewurztraminer; floral, smoky and spicy, then terrific concentration and balance and length, with some juicy sweetness detectable and adding to the enjoyment of the whole. Very, very fine. The sedimentary limestone geology, mostly located on the Vosges mountains foothills in Alsace, has always been the prime choice for producing long lived and structured Gewurztraminer wines. The presence of clay, more or less important, brings a cooler element in the soil, slowing down the ripeness process and preserving better acidity. The presence of limestone influences the aromatic profile and texture of the wine. They become more spicy, less floral, with a recognisable tighter tannic structure so crucial for the balance of the wine. Gewurztraminer, more than any other in Alsace, requires an accomplished skin ripeness. Failing so can end up in an over aromatic, not complex and bitter wine. The quality of the terroir will help greatly, but so does harvesting later! Since the acidity is naturally low, harvesting later isn’t affecting the wine as much as other grapes that would suffer more from acidity loss. All the grapes going into this wine are sourced from the estate's top single vineyards or Grands Crus, where they use the 'younger' vines. Pale yellow colour. The nose shows a restraint, almost mineral, smoky aromatic expression, so typical from a limestone soil. It eventually opens up and reveals ripe citrus, exotic fruits in a very elegant way. The palate shows a surprising freshness and acidity, and finishes with a balanced delicate sweetness. Clearly this wine will benefit from further ageing in order to allow it to express its full potential.

Domaine Danjou-Banessy
A blend of Genache Blanc, Gris and Noir, from ancient 90 year old vines in the ancient and quite amazing 'C|os des Escounils' that the brothers are developing and working on re-establishing it's other potential vineyard areas. Bodegas Gratias
"Comboi", is a local Valencian expression that is used when a group of people come together to have a good time, full of enthusiasm and joy, a bit like the wine! This is a Pet Nat lightly sparkling wine created "metodo ancestral" from 100% Bobal grapes. Strawberry coloured fizz made with minimal intervention, offering up fine bubbles, aromas of red fruit and brioche notes. An enticing bitter dry twist on the finish adds freshness and makes this perfect to serve with food.

Vigneti del Vulture
What a beauty. An insanely ancient grape variety and wine region - they were making this long before the Romans arrived in the south of Italy. The winemaking, though, is super-modern, the result silky and astonishingly rich. We know that Parker and his team like a big glossy wine and I proudly quote them: "This is a big wine with a capital B" Parker 90/100 of the 2015 vintage (and frankly down in the baked south there's barely any vintage variation) "You gotta love the little spider depicted on the front label of this wine. It refers to the mystical cult of Tarantism practiced in this part of Southern Italy in which a tarantula bite is believed to send women (mostly) into an all-night frenzy. Tarantism is revived and widely popular today as a rave-like dance craze. The 2015 Aglianico del Vulture Piano del Cerro is packaged in a very heavy glass bottle. It pours out slowly to reveal dried blackberry, spice, Spanish cedar and campfire ash. This Aglianico is virtually impenetrable in appearance. The oak-driven tannins are sweet and spicy. This is a big wine with a capital B." Of the 2016 "a smoky and tarry wine showing thick concentration. It has a chewy and rich texture and lots of barbecue spice on the close. From presentation to finish, this has all the trappings of a big boy wine for those who enjoy this sort of heft and meatiness."

A A Badenhorst
Partly skin contact, partly carbonic maceration, Adi previously used to blend these funkier components into the straight Secateurs, but in the last few vintages, they've chosen to bottle them alone to create Secateurs Riviera Adi highlights that whilst skin contact Chenin can sometimes be quite harsh, tannin dominant and linear, the carbonic maceration creates the most highly aromatic juice, loaded with luscious pineapple and tropical aromas. They layer whole bunches at the bottom of the tank, then destemmed, with the free run juice drawn off daily. A little cloudy in the glass, but no notes of anything too funky or unclean! Bruised peaches, effervescent vitamin c, rhubarb and custard sweets, earl grey tea and lemon barley water. Such fun! Chalky and long in the mouth, we can imagine it would be superb with crudo/ ceviche. Chalky and very long.

Montesquiou Freres
The Montesquiou family have been a source of Jurancon wines for generations, today it is run by brothers Sébastien and Fabrice who have raised the quality of the estate to a new level. The brothers employ many of the techniques of biodynamic viticulture so that no insecticides and herbicides are used. This blend of local varietals Gros Manseng, Petit Manseng and Petit Courbu is fermented and aged on lees in stainless steel for 4 months. 2020 was a really good vintage for white wines in the South West of france with a hot dry summer following a wet spring. This dry white has great aromas of lime, orange blossom and cut grass, a refreshing acidity and delicious peachy flavours. Genuinely complex and terrific value for a wine of such quality.

Fermented and aged in inox for 4 months, one year in the bottle. Pinka is a white wine made of the rare local variety, called Caiño Blanco. 100% Verdelho from the Voor Paardeberg. It's rich, it's ripe, it's opulent, and it goes exceptionally well with Thai food. If you like your whites bold and big, this is for you - slightly later picked, but very fresh and high acidity. 'The Verdelho grapes in this wine are from one vineyard in the Voor Paardeberg, and is named for one of the current farmer's grandfather - a chap who owned the first ever Suzuki Jimny in the whole of South Africa! Yup, one of those little mini 4x4s thatwe know over here as a Jimmy. During the mining boom in Namibia, a couple of smarter, tough but small cards were required to get the bigwigs from mine to mine, and a couple of them made their way in to South Africa. Years on, the grandson of the famous Jimnyand farm owner has continued the tradition and still keeps many. Not only that, but he's also the reigning champion of the off road dune racing competition on the west coast!' Pieter Walser, Winemaker
