Secondary fermentation takes place in the bottle and is aged on yeast lees for as long as possible. Honeysuckle and citrus scents are immediately apparent, slight aromas of nougat, roasted nuts and a hint of strawberry from the Pinot Noir. Delicate fruits and creaminess fills the mouth with a lingering finish of citrus and nougat. Lanzerac Chardonnay 2021 Stellenbosch The wine has a bright hue with a golden straw colour. It displays a refreshing nose of bright pear and peach blossoms with subtle lemon meringue and notes of freshly rolled oats. A full-bodied wine with great palate tension. Crisp apple and chalky citrus are infused with mild layers of Crème Brulé, spun sugar and floral potpourri. Altolandon Mil Historias Bobal 2020 Manchuela, Cert. Organic £12.99 Bobal is Spain's second most widely planted red grape but is far less familiar to most wine lovers than the most widely planted, Tempranillo. This good-value, unoaked example is grown at high altitude on north- and south-facing slopes by the Altolandon estate, 90 minutes north of Valencia. Deeply coloured, it has some of the rusticity that is associated with the grape, with attractive, slightly spicy blue- and blackberry fruit.
