Gérald Delhome "This is an interesting newcomer to the ranks in the northern sector of Crozes-Hermitage, with vineyards in the communes of Crozes itself, Larnage, Gervans and Erôme. There are almost 11.5 hectares of Crozes across 20 plots, Romain is the fifth generation; his great-grandfather Flavien Delhome had vineyards, while, on his mother’s side there were vineyards under her family in the shape of Severin Habrard, so there are two old roots at play here". Father Gérald took over the domaine in 1993, and concentrated on apricots and vines, the grape harvest sent to the Cave de Tain. Son Romain came on to the domaine in 2018; he had worked locally at Gigondas and in the Ventoux at Chêne Bleu, as well as in Virginia in the USA. The cellar was built in 2019. The domaine is HVE (Haute Valeur Environnementale) registered, a green credential, and the 2022 harvest will be officially organic. 100% Roussanne planted (only 0.3ha) on the very special and unique white Kaolin soils of Chateau de Larnage. This is phenomenal wine from such a young vine (planted in 2018). When looking at the 2022 vintage of this wine our senior buyer Stewart Travers thought the vines need to come on a little to show the terroir a little more to stand up in the market. We were literally knocked straight off of our feet on tasting the 2023 vintage, the vines and the fruit from this wonderful terroir have come on LEAPS and BOUNDS. Deep golden yellow colour, full, rich nose of flowers, quince and a touch of warm spice. Juicy and impressively deep on the palate with the fine acid brilliantly and elegantly holding everything finely in tune on the utterly delightful finish. What a wine, and simply another reason why we so look forward to following Dom. Delhome. Young Romain is a star!

Very attractive nose of white orchard fruit, pears even a hint of quince and a floral note. The same on the palate but with a sweet citrus note giving added juiciness. Subtle red apple fruit, full, perfectly balanced oak. Youthful but approachable right away. Fresh and vibrant, this is delicious, and great value!

A wine of quite incredible energy. The unique, quartzite-heavy soils of the Elisenberg give rise to a panoply of bright, playful aromas and flavours such as wildflowers, orange blossom honey, fresh herbs and even tart red berries, all of which complement the sweetness and concentration of this Spaetlese beautifully.

Exemplary Sancerre which we import directly from the Raimbault family. Linear, mineral driven, citrussy, with a slight herbal edge, and a tangy finish. Everything you could possibly want in a glass. The Raimbault family hail from Sury-en-Vaux, a village encircled by vineyards on the hillsides north-west of Sancerre. In the past they had been coopers, producing oak barrels for the winemakers that surrounded them, tending to their flock of goats, from which they made the local cheese (Crottin de Chavignol), as well as a small parcel of vines. Cheese made more money than wine then, but with the proceeds of their business, they slowly began to expand these holdings. In time, the brothers Noël and Jean-Luc began commercially vinifying their grapes, the domaine’s vineyards currently stretching to 13 hectares and planted to the traditional varieties of Sauvignon Blanc and Pinot Noir. They have vines across the three major terroirs of Sancerre; Terres Blanche (clay-limestone Kimmeridgian marls), Caillotes (soil rich with Oxfordian limestone pebbles), and so-called Silex (soil rich in flint and chert nodules from the Cretaceous). Their viticulture is characterised by a growing sense of environmental responsibility, moving away from the use of chemical weedkillers, and trying to contain soil erosion through co-plantation and by encouraging local flora and hedgerows. They have been awarded HVE status in recognition of these systematic efforts. Raimbault produces two Pinot Noir bottlings and a Pinot Noir rosé, along with a single white Sancerre cuvee from a blend of the three terroirs. Balanced by these varying soil characters, this is a consummate, flinty and citrus edged Sancerre that was lauded by a Decanter panel tasting as the best value of the entire appellation! This is a wine that pairs extraordinarily well with the local goat’s cheese; it’s almost like it was the family heritage.

Duncan Savage matriculated at Rondebosch Boys High School in 1995. In 2016. Savage Wines was set up in the heart of Cape Town in Salt River. Vineyards for his wines are leased and grapes sourced from around the Western Cape, maritime in nature where possible. Granitic soil is the focus. "This blend of 76% Sauvignon Blanc and 24% Sémillon, matured in 20% new oak, offers a complex bouquet with beeswax, wild mint, and fennel. The Sémillon beautifully complements the Sauvignon Blanc, and the palate is well-balanced with acidity and impressive weight. This is a very small production, produced from a 0.25 ha block of Chardonnay, situated on a gentle northeast-facing slope behind the winery. It comprises of two clones (g9v7 and Antav95), which were picked together. Whole bunch-pressed, settled then racked off gross solids to French oak barriques (50% new) for fermentation. The wine was on solids for 11 months, with some lees stirring. Four barriques were selected. 100 dozen produced. Only 84 bottles for the UK market. Pale, deft and zesty and enticing. A perfect example of mid-Mosel dry Riesling - delicate white peach fruit, cool slate minerality.

100% Chenin Blanc from Vouvray, one of the most famous regions for that grape variety in the world. A super smooth, well rounded example with mainly ripe apple flavours upfront, juicy acidity and there’s also a little floral feel to it too - unmistakably an off-dry wine with the ripe fruit pushing forward. A very easy sipper, thoroughly enjoyable.

From an exceptional south-facing single vineyard set high on the North Downs. Without question the best still English wine I have tasted. It’s mouth-fillingly fine with rounded, supple peach-like fruit and an ever so slightly toasty, vanilla finish thanks to nine months in French oak. If you like serious white Burgundy or Chablis, you’ll love this.

It is located at Rorschwihr, a sleepy village on the northern rim of Haut-Rhin. The vineyards are located in Rorschwihr and the neighbouring Rodern and Bergheim. The wines are small masterpieces with very good definition. They all carry the signature of Rolly-Gassmann, a certain shameless, velvety sweetness. The fruit is rich and manages to balance the fruit with a vibrant acidity to form wines that melt on the palate.

Aromatic guava and orange blossom jump from the glass - this Chenin Blanc is dry with ripe apples, peaches and a hint of orange peel on the palate. The elegant crisp finish makes this a fantastic wine for all occasions. The fruit for Aloe Tree hails from the increasingly fashionable west coast of the Cape. Cool nights and sea breezes combine to extend the growing season, resulting in perfectly balanced, ripe grapes. The iconic Aloe Tree image is sure to be familiar to anyone who has travelled widely through the Cape and is an important part of the biodiversity which South Africa is famous for. The characteristic silhouette provides a backdrop to one of the most spectacular wine regions in the world where wines grow in harmony with the thousands of plant species that make up the Cape Floral Kingdom. Chenin blanc is well adapted for various soil types, but our premium grapes are grown on medium to lower potential soils. Yield levels are limited by winter pruning and by removing shoots and leaving two or three shoots per spur during early spring. Canopy management is required as it plays a major role in yield and quality to ensure an optimum microclimate within the canopy. With its vigorous growth, medium-sized trellises are required and shoot positioning are done to maximize canopy surface. Grapes are harvested at a minimum of 21.5°Brix, but we aim for 22°Brix. Once the Chenin Blanc grapes are harvested, they arrive at the winery where the fruit is gently pressed and only the free run juice is used. Using selected yeasts the juice then undergoes cold fermentation at 14 degrees Celsius for 2 weeks before lying on the lees for 3 months.

A textured and savoury wine. It shows fleshy white nectarine and orchard fruit, alongside a flint-focussed precision on the palate, with a grainy and honeyed richness. It shows crystalline purity, with powerful savoury oak, and layered complexity.

Beautifully clear with green reflections. Intense nose of apricot, vine peach and rose. Very aromatic and floral. Powerful and generous on the palate with a remarkable finish, persistent, fresh and fruity. The soil, composed of chalky ‘terres blanches’, is ideal for the Viognier grape. Control of yields via optimal management of nutrition and de-budding. It spends 4 months in stainless steel vats. Batonnage on the lees to accentuate the plumpness on the palate.

A delightful, stylish blend of Clairette Blanche, Grenache Blanc and Picpoul. This wine has a bright straw yellow colour. On the nose, it reveals subtle aromas of citrus, melon, peach, with delicate notes of infused white flowers. The palate is rich and deep, both smooth and juicy, offering a beautiful balance and a cool, mineral and persistent finish. Lovely stuff.

Expressive nose - cream, lees, baked lemons. Layered, phenolic grip on the palate. Youthful, fruity, and yeasty with bright acidity and a juicy finish. This estate gets better and better and I was impressed by the relative value owner and winemaker Chlotilde still offers.

A generous and balanced palate of sweet rosewater and Turkish delight complemented by the crisp acid Riesling component adding a zesty finish.

Bright yellow in colour with vibrant citrus, pear and spice notes on the nose. The palate is full but extremely well balanced, with fresh Picpoul acidity and pure fruit flavours.

Wonderfully fresh and floral, tastes of elderflower and cool grapes. Very soft, not too acidic like many NZ SBs at this price.
