Champagne Pierre Bertrand 1er Cru Brut NV £32 came first in a Decanter tasting of over 100 Grower Champagnes in June 2018, with a score of 98 and an Exceptional rating. We have been importing it into the UK for 12 years and we always knew it was great, now some of the top wine critics agree with us, unanimously.

A premium cuvee made exclusively from the premier cru villages of Cumieres and Hautvillers. These are warm sites, with south-facing vineyard s well-exposed to the sun, and for this cuvee Bertrand blends the three main Champagne grape varieties in equal proportions. It's aged for six years in the cellars before release, which is unusually long for a grower estate, and this long ageing on the lees contributes to the wine's complexity and finesse.

A very special wine from ancient plants of two of the rarest and very best vines for Soualnes terroir, Grenache Gris and Carignan Gris. This really does have everything. It's floral, honeyed orchard and citrus fruits added to its sumptuousness, its layers of texture and bright but not too spiky acidity. Very long with great balance and so much interest. Divine stuff that is here in tiny quantities.

Ch. Tronquoy-Lalande 2014 Saint Estephe £32
The wines of Château Tronquoy-Lalande know how to seduce from their youth and gain in elegance after several years in cellar. In their blends we find the particularity of the estate's grape varieties, atypical for a Saint-Estèphe wine, dominated by Merlot, which fruit combines with the power of the Cabernet Sauvignon. The hint of Petit Verdot and Cabernet Franc adds freshness, finesse and aromatic complexity.

90/100 Jane Anson "From the same team as Château Montrose, this is always a great wine, full of finesse and drama. This is very good quality, with a lovely rich, deep texture with sexy, ripe fruit. The alcohol is perhaps the highest of the appellation in this vintage, but it's balanced. 1% Cabernet Franc rounds out the blend."

Deep garnet core. Masses of pure vibrant cassis, youthful if not primary. A touch minty/leafy. Finely textured, almost chalky tannins. Fresh and refined in texture with equally refined fruit for harmony. GV
