Rolly-Gassmann is a domaine like no other and has a unique style. It is located at Rorschwihr, a sleepy village on the northern rim of Haut-Rhin. The vineyards are located in Rorschwihr and the neighbouring Rodern and Bergheim. The wines are small masterpieces with very good definition. They all carry the signature of Rolly-Gassmann, a certain shameless, velvety sweetness. The fruit is rich and manages to balance the fruit with a vibrant acidity to form wines that melt on the palate.
Form the marl and calcareous soils of Rorschwihr, the Terroir des Châteaux Forts is a blend of 25% Gewürztraminer, 40% Auxerrois and the rest Pinot Gris and Riesling. The wine has a clear, golden shimmering citrus color and offers a clear and delicate bouquet with flinty/earthy aromas. Round, fresh and piquant, this is a a refreshing, elegant and well-structured white from 20- to 40-year-old vines. There is a lovely finesse and piquancy, while the finish is firm, intense, salty and quite long. An excellent wine at a very reasonable price.. A must with asparagus!
The Bourgogne Blanc 'Terroir Noble' comes from vines all situated in the communes of Puligny, Chassagne and Meursault. Lovely and fresh with aromas of ripe lemon, apple and pear with a floral hint. Rich with stone fruits, melted butter and a creamy richness that linger on the finish. Theres lots of freshness and minerality. An exceptional value-to-quality Bourgogne Blanc from one of the great estates in Burgundy.
Beautiful fruity wine from Sicily, great value for money with notes of grapefruits and citrus like lemon and pear. Bright and pleasing acidity. Notes of mineral enhance the refreshing taste. Nice pairing with fish and drink chill dishes.
This wine is named after Led Zeppelin's "Immigrant Song". What further example of winemaker Giampaolo Chiettini's genius do you need?
Immigrant Wine is a brilliant, curious Tuscan white IGT wine produced from Müller Thurgau grapes grown organically in a vineyard in the Vicchio di Mugello area at 370 meters above sea level. The grapes are harvested in the second half of September which then see fermentation with their indigenous yeasts. A short breeding in steel vat on fine lees follows until the wine is bottled in the spring following the harvest.
The wine is precise with good energy and a nice volume. Showing nice floral tones, some elderflower and herbal qualities wrapped up with a nice green apple bite.
We have a quarter of the 480 bottle total production.
Low yield, old vines on arid volcanic Mt Vulture up to 800m altitude. Two ancient grapes one famed in Roman times one pre-Roman (Greco = Greek, southern Italy was Hellenic before the Romans arrived, and what did they ever do for...). Basilicata is the forgotten mid-south but in wines terms it is extraordinary and fascinating.
Made by a super-modern outfit, they have lifted this into proper word-class status. Aromatic, it smells like green melon and elderflower, light, no oak, pure, snappy. A triumph.
Decanter: "A lush white with striking tropical notes that would be great with a peach and burrata salad, though it has the freshness to make a fine aperitif too."
One of our best-selling wines - and it is obvious why!
Bright straw yellow with greenish reflections, Saragat Vermentino has fragrant aromas of rosemary, elderberry, juicy white stone fruit, and lychee. The palate is elegant and savoury, with great structure and balance. The intensity of flavour carries through onto the long finish.
Delicate and dry with wonderfully defined crisp apple and pear fruit with a tiny hint of honey and herbs. There is good weight here, but beautiful balance to which makes it attractive and easy to drink
Fresh, delicate aroma of apple blossoms and a hint of citrus and slate. An animating, enjoyable and juicy Riesling with crystal clear mineral texture; excellent balance of aromatic sweetness and racy fruit acid.
This monopole is a southwest-facing vineyard slope of just two acres. The vineyard was planted in 1964, but the first historic record dates back to 30th April 1245! The vineyard was dedicated by the Count of Veldenz to the nearby convent from which it took its name Helenenkloster (St. Helenes convent.)
It offers a rather aromatic nose made of vineyard peach, apricot blossom and fine spicy elements. The wine is subtly creamy yet also beautifully light-footed on the palate and leaves a direct feel of herbs, fruits and spices in the animating and persistent finish. Flavours of apricot add a touch of weight to the aftertaste.
Very rare, very low production. Mineral, taught. Fine and long. One of the unsung whites of the Roussillon. A blend of Grenache Gris, Grenache Blanc, Carignan Gris and Carignan Blanc. Outstanding wine. Ages gracefully for 10++ years. Beautiful vineyards that are beautifully worked.
After the spring frost affected 2021 (see grapes blended with Roussanne, Grenache and Syrah to produce Le Duc), Simon didnt only lose a large percentage of fruit that year, he lost approximately 20% of the Viognier vines! Just when you thought this man's luck couldnt get any worse! But the LInvite 2022 displays more of the richer and classic Viognier characters than is usual from this extraordinarily high and stunning terroir of schist with large pebbles of basalt mixed in. These characters marry well with the awesome minerality this sites constantly shows. An absolute stunner.
Fermented in steel and aged for 2 months in French oak It has lovely floral and citrus fruit notes on the nose, more on the palate and thirst quenching acidity. Really pleasing to drink on its own or with creamy dishes.
Elegant and well-balanced, Avalon CHARD offers aromas of Golden Delicious apple, orange blossom, guava with hints of vanilla and baking spices. These lovely characteristics flow through to the palate leading to a crisp and refreshing finish.
