Intense red colour. Aromas reminiscent of red fruits, blackberries, cassis and dried plums with a delicate hint of vanilla, coffee and chocolate, well integrated. On the palate it is intense but gentle, with ripe sweet tannins. Long finish.
The deep red colour anticipates the aromatic intensity of this wine that is full of aromas and flavours of blackberries, raspberries and dried plums, as well as notes of spices and cassis. Its passage through oak provides well integrated notes of roasted coffee and dark chocolate. The tannins are ripe and friendly and well integrated into the exquisite wine. A lovely aged Argentinian red, beautifully smooth and complex.
To produce this wine, the winemaker select every year the best 80 barrels in the winery , we have around 2000, and blend them, that wine spent around 12 month in the barrel as a single varietal, after the blending, wine goes back to barrel for 6six or more months. As in the winery the majority of varietals are Malbec, Cabernet and Merlot, then the proportion of these varieties is always higher in the wine.

This wine has an intense red-violet colour. The nose is delicate, with aromas of violet flowers, menthol, spices and black fruits. In the mouth, ripe and structured tannins, and liquorice notes. Long and persistent finish. Exceptional specimen!
In 2008, Fabian Valenzuela – chief oenologist at bodega Tapiz – was selecting the components of Tapiz Seleccion de Barricas. This consisted on tasting the contents of the oak barles (225 lts capacity each) where the wines harvested in 2006 from the best plots of land were being aged for almost two years by then. This is done every year, and Seleccion de Barricas is a blend of the barriques selected in this process.
That particular year, when he tasted one of the Malbec barrels, he was in awe with the deep dark colour of the wine, and the amazing concentration of flavours it presented. When pouring it in a glass and swirling it a direct image came to his mind with the drops of wines that were produced: black tears (lágrimas negras). It was at that point that he decided to make a single variety top end wine from this wine. He identified the plot of land the grapes came from, and created a new product which became iconic: Black tears Malbec

Dark fruit and savoury notes, featuring juicy plums and brambleberries from the Malbec and oak, alongside hints of dried herbs and spices from the Cabernet Franc. VINIFICATION De-stemming without grinding. Alcoholic fermentation in Open bins, microvinified. Soft manual and wet stomping of the hat, Infused. Post-fermentation maceration of at least a week. Devatting in barrels for complete malolactic fermentation. racking and return to barrels for aging.
AGEING 100% of the volume is aged for 14 months in barrels French oak, 50% new, 50%
second use.
Hailing from the Las Compuertas region of Argentina, this is everything you’d expect from a top end Malbec. Rich and deliciously full-bodied with notes of baked black cherries, tamarind, and berries, complemented by a hint of white pepper and hibiscus. One to enjoy now or put aside to develop over a few years…if you can wait that long!

This has got to be one of the best Malbecs I have tasted in a long time. Juan Pablo Lupa is such a passionate wine maker and the intensity shows in his wines. Rich and elegant, not too heavy, very smooth and silky. Lovely flavours with vanilla coming through on the lvery long finish.
