Chapel Down
From an exceptional south-facing single vineyard set high on the North Downs. Without question the best still English wine I have tasted. Its mouth-fillingly fine with rounded, supple peach-like fruit and an ever so slightly toasty, vanilla finish thanks to nine months in French oak. If you like serious white Burgundy or Chablis, youll love this.

Danbury Ridge
The Octagon Block is the most established vineyard on the estate with an eclectic soil profile. Spanning over 12 acres, most of the vines sit on glaciofluvial sediments of sandy gravel, known as Danbury Gravel. This wine expresses layers of zesty citrus aromas, honeysuckle and nougat. The palate is creamy and full bodied, showing a focused aciidty and well-integrated oak. The generous weight and long lingering finish lend to its status as a 888 wine. "A bit richer on the nose than the regular Chardonnay but very much a relative of it. Lemon and pineapple nose. Real grip here. A bit denser and more complex. But its not there yet. Lots going on underneath. Drink to 2030. 17+ points." (Jancis Robinson MW, jancisrobinson.com, December 2022)

What could be better than a bottle England's finest Fizz? A Magnum! Even yet better still: A Magnum at a crazy price, only £70 (Xmas 2022) - a splendidly small price for an impressive serving of sparkling joy. First and still best: the English sparkling wine that put English sparkling wine on the map. Jancis Robinson OBE MW. 17.5/20 "Very frisky mousse! Sophisticated and, I have to admit, champagne-like nose. Lifted and long and very sophisticated. There are just SO many champagnes that are less impressive than this... intellectually stimulating. Wonderfully vibrant..."

Danbury Ridge
Something of Pouilly-Fuisse in the style here, a banana-custard rich nose, but on the palate linear, mineral and refined. Elegant, broad and complex, so unlike other English chardonay. Super-premium estate sited in the warmest, driest corner of England, near the coast and Malden (of posh salt fame). This south-facing ridge enjoys an exceptionally long warm growing season - so rare in England. Our old friend John Atkinson, Master of Wine, who is an expert on cool-climate viticulture, is enthusiastically involved. Winemaker is Liam Idzikowski who boasts long experience in English wine-making; backed by owners the Bunker family, the winery is an astonishing no-expense-spared jewel in the crown for English wine.

Displaying an array of ripe red fruit aromas with highlights of cherries, hints of smokiness and spice add complexity to the nose. The palate has a juicy acidity and fine tannins lending to a refreshingly long finish. The Pinot is deep and svelte in the Pommard/Volnay tradition, rich of fruit and cool of spice - clove, anise etc. Young but self-evidently grand, and deeply impressive.
