Fairly simple cherry and redcurrant aromas lead to blackcurrants and plums in the mouth, with refreshing acidity and a line of bitterness on the back palate. The grapes were whole-bunch pressed, which perhaps adds that greeness underneath the ripe fruit. A more structured, tannic wine than initially expected, but with lovely fruit - delicious wine.

Adi Badenhorst has created three canned versions of his good-value, entry-level Curator wines, of which this is the pick. Aromas of juicy apricots, pineapples, bananas, nectarines and wild strawberry hints too. The palate is rich, intense and flavoursome with ripe stone and some tropical fruit, bound in a creamy mouthfeel, like a mouthful of peach yoghurt. A little jasmine freshness tickles the finish. Blended Malt Whisky from all twenty-eight operating single malt distilleries owned by Diageo. This once in a lifetime blend has a complex of aromas and flavours with a well-balanced blend of carefully selected tastes that's very refreshing.

The Circle is based around a parcel of fruity and creamy single malt from the Tamdhu Distillery in Speyside. This is supported by malt whisky from the Clynelish Distillery. A touch of peated malt whisky from an Orkney distillery and a small proportion of a French oak-finished blended malt whisky complete the recipe. Rosey Mitchell is the 2018 winner of The Circle, a programme designed to inspire bartenders around the world. Rosey’s prize? A unique blend only made by Blandy’s, combining the islands Bual & Malmsey varietals, Blandy's 5 year old Reserva was aged in American oak casks in the traditional 'Canteiro' system. This comprises of the gentle heating of the wine in the lofts of the lodges in Funchal. Over the years the wine is transferred from the top floors to the middle floors and eventually to the ground floor where it is cooler. Solera 1847 is an elegant Cream: made from 75% Palomino grape, blended with Pedro Ximènez. Dark mahogany in colour it is velvety soft on the palate conjuring flavours of dried figs and raisins, with a toffee finish.

Black/purple colour. A lovely complex nose with excellent sweet and rich fruit aromas such as black cherry, black currant and blackberry. On the palate it is packed with solid, structured, rich and intense black fruit flavours and an admirably long finish. Packed full of wild strawberry fruit with hints of raspberry, the palate adds a touch of spice to the sweet fruit and even a touch of coffee. This is a lovely approachable wine. Alain Gras is the reference point for St-Romain. This extremely steep village was considered part of the Hautes Côtes de Beaune until 1947. The vineyards are set back from the main Côte and mostly at higher elevation and have unquestionably improved in quality by the changes in climate and no longer struggle to reach full physiological maturity. The domaine covers 12 hectares with 8ha being planted with Chardonnay and 4ha to Pinot Noir. There are 42 separate parcels but Alain prefers to blend the grapes into one cuvée.

The 2022 is an even more serious and dialled-back incarnation than usual; a crisp, racy but intense blend of 88% Grenache, 10% Mourvèdre and 2% Grenache Blanc. Mourvèdre provides a salinity, which counteracts the juicy peach and red berry fruit of the Grenache beautifully; a light touch of smoke and herb atop some clear, fresh raspberry and strawberry characteristics, make for a wine of allure, vitality and grip. This exquisite Rosé makes a perfect summer aperitif, although it is also robust enough to partner a variety of summer fare.

A blend of Genache Blanc, Gris and Noir, from ancient 90 year old vines in the ancient and quite amazing 'C|os des Escounils' that the brothers are developing and working on re-establishing it's other potential vineyard areas. There is something unavoidably poignant about drinking wine made from a vineyard that no longer exists, from someone’s crazy idea of planting Gamay in the Rhône which then had to be grubbed up at the ripe old age of 40-odd for financial and logistical reasons. This is a sip of quirky history and for that alone it is to be savoured and treasured. But not for that alone. The wine is gorgeous. I’m not sure I would have guessed Gamay if I hadn’t known. Gamay with a Grenache accent? The fruit is bauble round and late-summer ripe. Rose hips, red plums, raspberry tea and freckled with pepper. Kicking can-can tannins doubling down on the pepper. A violet and a sprig of thyme tucked into the envelope before posting. It’s fluvial with elegance. Oh, this really is a wine to lay your hands on before it’s all gone. This beautiful Margot 2022 (named after FX's little girl, Margot) is utterly divine modern, natural Roussillon Rose. The make up in this organic wine is 50% old vine Grenache Noir (grown on schist) seeing whole bunch and maceration on skins for 7 days and 50% direct press Carignan Noir (grown on clay). The naturally fermented juices are blended after malolactic fermentation. Tank aged for five months. A very low dose of sulphites at bottling. Bottled unfined and unfiltered. Coming in at a delightful 11.5% alcohol. A beautiful label drawn in school by young Margot also!

This dry white Bordeaux from a great producer in Sauternes has a new name from 2021, Lions de Suduiraut Sec. Half of the wine is aged in oak barrels, the other half in stainless steel. With bright acidity and plenty of lovely citrus fruit the wine is ready to drink but will keep for 4 years.

This Chenin Noir is aromatic and floral with rosehip and hibiscus leading to sweet, ripe young strawberries. It's richer than the other Lampyres wines, and needs a bit of breathing/decanting time to show its full wares. Nice tension and with a fresh, gently peppery finish. Serve cool. Outstanding from the superb talent that is 'FX'.
