"Some earthy savoury spice on the nose. Intriguing. Big and broad. Sumptuous cocoa powder like tannins. Fruit, complete, delicious. Acid and alcohol both in check. Will continue to age gracefully, but absolutely delicious now."

A lighter purple, this vineyard is never powerful. An elegant lifted strawberry note, medium bodied, graceful.

Domaine Dujac
Malconsorts is considered by many as equal in quality, and certainly as in-demand, as most grands crus, and you’ll be hard pushed to find a finer example than Dujac’s. The Domaine Dujac's Vosne-Romanée premier cru comes from one of the appellation's best known climats, Aux Malconsorts. The bouquet is expressive, complex and fresh, with aromas of red and black berries, spices and violet. In the mouth, the wine is delicate and smooth, the fruit is prominent but not overbearing, the tannins are silky and the overall balance perfect. The very persistent finish is remarkably pure and elegant. This great wine really requires fairly long cellaring before it can express its full complexity.

Domaine Dujac
This Premier Cru wine originates from `Les Beaux Monts`, a lieu-dit where Dujac owns a 0.72-hectare parcel. The 2021 vintage displays delightful notes of red berries, plums, vine smoke, exotic spices, and bergamot. Medium to full-bodied, it offers a supple and sensual experience, featuring a fleshy core of perfumed fruit harmoniously framed by melting tannins.

Rene Bouvier
Le Finage, which means territory, is the name given to this wine from different Marsannay plots. The vines grow on several clay-limestone soils, producing a fully rounded wine, in which you will find energetic tannins, fruity aromas (raspberry), and spices. Consistency and freshness mark the finish of this perfect ambassador for the appellation. We recommend drinking this wine during its dynamic first 5 years, but it can be kept for longer. It may be necessary to decant certain vintages in their first few years. Depending on the vintage, we use 50% whole-bunch fermentation. The wine is aged for about 12 months in barrels (with 15% of new barrels) and 6 months in stainless steel tanks.

Made mostly from domaine fruit with the small amount of purchased Narvaux included. Pale lemon colour, lifted and charming. Good acidity behind, medium bodied, this will show a little more opulence later.

Domaine Olivier Leflaive
Intense dried fruit aromas combine with forestal notes of anise and chlorophyll. Firm mouthfeel with a touch of tannin that gives body and texture. Enclosed by drystone walls on three sides and backing steeply onto the Montagne de Beaune, Clos des Monsnières offers a beautiful panorama of Pommard and the Côte. Quite shallow clay-limestone soils over ironstone gravel enable Chardonnay to ripen slowly.

Benjamin Leroux
Since the addition of the excellent Brochon vineyards in 2020, what was already a very good wine is now an excellent one, perhaps with a little more grip and structure than in the past, without losing that classic Leroux purity and accessibility. The nose is pure Gevrey; chalky red berry fruits, a floral touch and a twist of spice. The palate is juicy with waves of succulent red berry fruit and a refreshing limestone finish. Drink 2024-2032.

Patrick Javillier
Patrick Javillier is a perfectionist. He vinifies parcel by parcel giving the wine its concentration and richness. Raspberry and vanilla go hand-in-hand on the nose. Supple, fresh, this wine is discreet and accessible in its youth. Les Grands Liards is located at the foot of the hillside with a clay and limestone soil rich in pebbles. Asian style beef will be enhanced by this Red Savigny-Lès-Beaune.

94 points Charles Curtis, MW (Decanter): "The nose of the the blended Morey premier cru from domaine parcels has pronounced and nuanced aromas of blackberry and raspberry fruit with a suggestion of spice and earth. There is a slight hint of reduction that should disappear at bottling, and the texture is pleasantly round and silky soft. The grapes come from a blend of lieux-dits that include Les Charrieres, Les Millandes, Les Ruchots, and Clos Sorbè; the total surface area is 0.82 hectares, all picked 27 - 28 September. Drinking Window: 2025-2045. (Nov 2022)"

Henri Prudhon & Fils
Les Enseignères is one of those stealth values in the complex world of Burgundy. Its western border forms the eastern edge of Batard-Montrachet, and it is one of the rare spots in the Cote d’Or where a grand cru slopes directly down into village-level territory with no premier cru in between. The Prudhons own just shy of a hectare of quite old vines here between 30 and 80 years of age.

On its finings, the village Meursault is blended from lower slope vineyards plus Bois de Blagny just under the forest. Elegant white fruit, a mix of apple and pear, displaying more body weight on the palate. The Meursault retains good acidity as well, so this will continue to build in the right direction.

Expressive nose - cream, lees, baked lemons. Layered, phenolic grip on the palate. Youthful, fruity, and yeasty with bright acidity and a juicy finish. This estate gets better and better and I was impressed by the relative value owner and winemaker Chlotilde still offers.

Jasper Morris MW87-90/100 Also quite a pale colour. The bouquet is a little more pronounced in fresh raspberry fruit, pleasing rather than massive. Very stylish, with a good fruit acid balance. A fine and balanced Savigny without rusticity. Drink 2024 - 2028 Jasper Morris MW, InsideBurgundy.com (January 2023)

Benjamin was able to keep the lees after racking as they were so pure and continue to nourish the wine. Very pale in colour. There is plenty of energy here, lemon infused up front, just the right flesh behind, with a long, agile finish.

Domaine Dujac
Clos Saint-Denis is a Grand Cru vineyard within the commune of Morey-Saint-Denis in Burgundy’s Côte de Nuits. This small Grand Cru of 6.6ha in fact gave its name to the village of Morey-Saint-Denis in which it is located. The name is a reference to the martyred Saint-Denis de Vergy who founded the monastic order which first planted this vineyard between the 11th and 13th centuries. The rocky clay-limestone soil and sun-catching easterly exposure of Clos Saint-Denis produces Pinot Noirs which are relatively light in structure (the are not quite so firmly structured as its Grand Cru twin, Clos de la Roche, for example), but with finely nuanced aromatics and seductive Pinot fruit. The main landowners in Clos Saint-Denis are Domaine Dujac and Domaine Georges Lignier.

Domaine Bachey-Legros
Outstanding Santenay Blanc from the growers with the oldest vines in the appellation. As the name suggests the vineyard sits below the limestone cliff, which offers protection and allows the vines to thrive. The wine has the hallmarks of a white wine grown on limestone too, offering great acidity alongside the ripe fruit character that old vines provide. We have been working with the Legros brothers Sam and Lenaic since, well, for as long as we can remember, at least 25 years. Their vines are very old and seem to enjoy life on the upper slopes of Santenay, protected from the worst excesses of the climate by limestone cliffs and woodland. They harvest late to offer ripeness and richness, a hedonistic style that is irresistible to us and many customers.

Benjamin Leroux
93/100 Charles Curtis MW, Decanter "This newly-purchased parcel will make an excellent addition to Leroux's lineup. The charming, forward fruit of the 2021 is one of the successes of his portfolio this year. The light ruby colour gives no hint of the pronounced cherry fruit, floral and mineral accents and touch of salinity that one finds on the palate. The body is light, but there is real ripeness here and a great purity to the fruit leading to a lingering finish."

J.M. Boillot
Textbook white Burgundy nose. A touch of oak but mostly 'just' ripe white orchard fruits. There is a nice stony, straw and honey edge too. Good breadth on the palate. Good ripeness and nicely balanced. Lovely wine for drinking early. Jean-Marc Boillot is a grandson of Etienne Sauzet, and was previously winemaker for Olivier Leflaive. With that mixture of winemaking pedigree and experience it comes as no surprise that Jean-Marc Boillot makes sensational wines. He is one of those rare commodities in Burgundy, a winemaker who produces both red and white wines of the highest quality. Now assisted by daughter Lydie and son Benjamin, Jean-Marc Boillot set up his own domaine in 1985. He started with some rented vines in Pommard, adding Volnay and Pommard from his grandfather’s side in 1988 and the whites, a one-third share of Domaine Etienne Sauzet, from his grandmother in 1991. Including generic burgundy, the domaine now exploits 11 hectares, five red and six white, with the same volume again in négociant cuvées of white wines, especially from the Côte Chalonnaise.

Domaine Alain Gras
Perhaps the best known vineyard in the Saint Romain appellation, this shows a little oak on the nose with very good concentration and flashes of citrus. The palate too shows some toastiness with a sweet frame and the whole is very juicy with good energy. Long and concentrated with a silky finish. Alain Gras is the reference point for St-Romain. This extremely steep village was considered part of the Hautes Côtes de Beaune until 1947. The vineyards are set back from the main Côte and mostly at higher elevation and have unquestionably improved in quality by the changes in climate and no longer struggle to reach full physiological maturity. The domaine covers 12 hectares with 8ha being planted with Chardonnay and 4ha to Pinot Noir. There are 42 separate parcels but Alain prefers to blend the grapes into one cuvée.

Domaine Belleville
The combination of red fruits and florality give this wine immediate presence. The 'Champ Ladoy' uses two tiny parcels in Mercurey with 12 months in oak, 30% new. There's a smoky character that develops in the glass but it's still quite youthful, mineral, with a light, elegant mouthfeel.

Domaine Bachey-Legros
From vineyards at the Santenay end of Chassagne. "Toasty, broad, and fleshy as is the style. Rather sumptuous, oak and toast but great mineral undertow throughout. Long and polished. Some tropical, even a slight green mango on the finish. Classy." We've been working with the Legros brothers Sam and Lenaic since, well, for as long as we can remember, at least 25 years. Their vines are very old and seem to enjoy life on the upper slopes of Santenay, protected from the worst excesses of the climate by limestone cliffs and woodland. 16 barrels (one more than in 2020). A fine attractive pale ruby colour. About half whole bunch. More depth of fruit than the village Vougeot, with fresh strawberry notes, not especially concentrated to finish, but fine and will be accessible relatively soon. Drink from 2025-2031. *** 88-91 Jasper Morris MW.

the fruit is crunchy and very focused, fresh cherry and damsons sit on an plummy mid-weight palate that's laced with a subtle, cleansing acidity that creates platform for the fruit to shine. Great freshness on the finish with more red fruit and a dab of spice.
