Domaine Danjou-Banessy
Old vine Grenache grown on decomposed black schist with a limestone sub soil with some quartz, that produces something amazing. Ethereal, sublime and fesh, this achieves a level of finesse akin to fine red Burgundy. Remarkable, special, very good indeed.

Boekenhoutskloof
South Africas celebrated Gottfried Mocke made legendary chardonnay in his time at Cape Chamoix. He now makes this wine at the famous Boekenhoutskloof estate using superb-quality fruit sourced from near neighbours. The result is a classic example of cool-climate chardonnay, refined and with an uplifting saline note while still maintaining a generous texture on the palate. Cap Maritime sits perched on top of a ridge separating the Upper Hemel-en-Aarde appellation from the Valley, one of the most exciting places to grow Chardonnay and Pinot Noir in South Africa. The wine shows layers of green apple and citrus fruits. Judicious use of French oak seamlessly brings together aromas and palate with a gentle spice that makes this an utterly moreish Chardonnay.

Greywacke
A seductive combination of white nectarine, pink grapefruit and candied orange rind mingles with the more savoury aromas of roasted chestnuts and hot buttered brioche an elaborate concoction infused with linseed and woodsmoke. The savouriness carries through onto a wonderfully dry palate that has great texture and concentration, with distinct flintiness, tight structure and terrific ageing potential.

Henriques & Henriques
A complex wine with fresh acidity, brown spices, nuts and citrus peel, and an extraordinarily long finish. Serve chilled as an aperitif, with seafood or smoked fish. Madeira should be cellared upright. It loves light, heat and air, but hates frost.

Cà dei Frati
Way, way out of its class - no other Laguna matches this for complexity. Chablis-like in its bracing stony frame but layered with waves of white peach, ripe lime, tarragon, hints of chilli or ginger. A slightly eccentric but 100% gorgeous wine that really commands attention.

Château Cantelys
This 20ha estate has been owned since 1994 by Florence and Daniel Cathiard, who also own Château Smith Haut Lafitte and are making some of the most exciting, perfectly honed wines in Bordeaux. Their top wines ell north of £80 a bottle so this wine appears relatively good value, particulalry since it came out top at a recent Decanter tasting of Red Graves from 2016. Bravo. Planted to 70% Cabernet Sauvignon and 30% Merlot, on mostly gravel soils with some clay. Grapes are handpicked and sorted twice, whole-berry fermented in large oak vats before ageing 14 months in 25% new French oak barrels. This is intense, fruity and a real joy to drink now or keep for another 10 years.

Vincent Girardin
Les Gravières premier cru is on Santenay's border with Chassagne-Montrachet. It gets a bit more sun than most of the commune, and is one of the best Santenay vineyards, for both reds and whites. While the excellent Vincent Girardin is better known for whites, this Pinot is nonetheless reliable, and good value for Burgundy in this particularly good vintage. Plenty of red berry fruit, with earth and subtle spice. It is tangy and vibrant, still youthful. Soft and with lots of savoury interest.

Ornellaia
Le Volte dellOrnellaia combines a Mediterranean expression of generosity with structure and complexity, reflecting the philosophy of Ornellaia. Le Volte dellOrnellaia is a fine wine for spontaneous wine lovers and needs no ceremony. Ruby red with purple reflections, Le Volte dell Ornellaia 2020 has a vinous bouquet, releasing a complexity of aromas ranging from ripe red fruits, to Mediterranean scrub, up to delicate notes of tobacco and spices. The mouthfeel is soft and silky, but at the same time supported by a lively acidity that gives us a crisp, persistent finish. Olga Fusari Winemaker Grabs you from the first moment your nose hovers over the glass. Smudged charcoal runs into raspberry, underbrush and mandarin orange peel that speaks of Tuscan sun. Excellent quality, good persistency in the glass as it stretches out through the palate. Everything feels in balance, and this provides another indicator that 2020 is a great vintage in this corner of Italy Le Volte is (almost) 100% Merlot but has freshness and nuance. 93 points Jane Anson

Good value Burgundy is getting increasingly hard to find, so I suggest you look at some of the lesser-known villages such as Auxey Duresses which is only a mile or so from Meursault. The whites it produces tend to be great value; smooth and stylish, in the Meursault mould. The nose shows aromas of yellow blossom with toasted hazelnuts, almonds, ripe citrus and hawthorn. The palate is rich, structured and dazzling with purity and freshness. A beautifully balanced and delicious Burgundy!

Remarkable, beguiling, hard to benchmark such a top end Fiano. Certainly one of the best if not the very best Fiano, indeed one of the top few whites in Southern Italy and Islands! Greengage, honeysuckle, a hint of dry vermouth - amazing richness with little oak. Fiano is super-ancient, from Campania, clearly suited to Menfi in western Sicily as here. Parker 94 "an icon wine of Sicily and deservedly so. Fiano is simply radiant and lusciously rich in this medium-bodied expression. The 2019 vintage shaped nicely concentrated and flavorful fruit of apricot, honey and baked pear. Only 10% of the wine sees oak, but that's more than enough to render the extra depth and soft textural richness that puts this wine a cut above the other more one-dimensional interpretations of this indigenous Italian grape."

Lur Saluces
Tasted blind at the 10-Year On Tasting in Sauternes. The 2005 Château de Fargues has a rich and intense bouquet with layers of honey, dried peach, beeswax and acacia that soar from the glass. The palate is powerful and authoritative: intense botrytis-rich honeyed fruit with compelling mineralité underneath. It fans out in glorious fashion a stunning de Fargues that is now beginning to show its talents. As I remarked a couple of years ago, just afford it a couple more years so that it can fully absorb the vestiges of oak. Drink 2018-2045. 95 pts Neal Martin, Wine Advocate (219), June 2015

Gonzalez Byass
This Amontillado Muy Viejo has more than 30 years of ageing in oak barrels giving it an intense concentration and complexity. Dry in taste with hints of cedar, leather, walnuts and a lingering, nutty finish. It is a great partner for roast beef, hearty casseroles, game or mature Cheddar cheese. ?Aromatic and intoxicating, offering toasted almonds, caramel, dried figs and coffee bean. Dense and rich yet tight and precise. Extraordinary.? IWC 2019 Gold

Leaner, more austere on the nose. Very lively on the palate, almost sweet caramelised edge, high acid, good brightness. Very ripe, round, and unctuous. Vanillin finish. Tarte tatin. A bit much at the moment. Puppy fat. Lovely length though. Still plenty of opportunity.

Billecart-Salmon
Jancis Robinson MW 18.5/20 "Electrically reverberant... Very complex and uncompromising...Dense and savoury. Intellectual wine! " Wine Advocate 97/100 showing superbly, wafting from the glass with a complex bouquet that mingles confit citrus, peach and dried papaya with nuances of iodine, brioche and honeycomb. On the palate, it's full-bodied, broad and vinous, with a rich and layered core that's underpinned by serious structure and tension, concluding with a long and precise finish. This is one of the finest wines Billecart has released in the last decade, and it is well worth seeking out.

Au Bon Climat
Au Bon Climats Hildegard is a recreation of the original varietal planting of the Corton Charlemagne vineyard in 800 A.D. Chardonnay was not part of the mix at the time, but rather Pinot Gris, Pinot Blanc and Aligoté. The combination of this unique blend with long term barrel aging (2 years) made something special. It has a texture, complexity, and distinctiveness that cannot be found in a single white wine varietal. Hand harvested, whole cluster pressed and put into barrel to ferment. The 3 varietals age separate for 2 years in 100% new François Frères French oak barrels. Lovely aroma of vanilla and hazelnuts from the oak, and a mouth-coating richness, makes for a wine that seems like Chardonnay. But the fruit profile is more bruised apple and pear, and the aromas are more floral than Chardonnay. Minerally lavender and vanilla note from the fermentation/aging regime in top-notch barrels. Aromas of ripe stone fruit, contrast nicely with fresh herbal scent as the wine is initially evaluated.

Domaine de la Côte de l'Ange
Owned by the Mestre family, Domaine de la Côte de l'Ange has been run since 1988 by Corinne Mestre and her husband Yannick Gasparri, who were joined in 2017 by their son Jules. The vineyards are situated in plots around Châteauneuf du Pape with a small parcel of Côte du Rhône. The estate runs to 13.5 hectares of vineyards in Chateauneuf du Pape and an additional 2.5 hectares of vines located in the Cotes du Rhone appellation. 1.5 hectares are devoted to the growing of white wine grapes. The remaining 12 hectares are used in the production of red Chateauneuf du Pape wine. This Tradition wine is superb, being ripe and friendly but with some concnetration and acidity necessary for ageing. Highly recommended
