Striking the perfect balance between sweetness and acidity, this excellent, off-dry Riesling typifies the variety. Cool, juicy and possessed of a gentle florality.

Pale yellow colour. Expressive Riesling nose typical from limestone origin: citrus, light mineral notes, stony flavours, honey. Vivacious palate, crisp, amazing acidity and freshness. This is a very classic Roche Calcaire that finishes bone dry with a lacy texture. This wine will still need some time to open up and it is highly recommended to decant it in the first years after bottling.

Unusual fragrance which depends less on fruit than fine floral, spicy and herbal aromas for interest of aromatic expression. On the palate initially it’s all heading in the herbal direction, peach brings in a bit of fleshy fruit, full body and rich texture reflect the concentration afforded by the old vines of the Domprobst. A mild-mannered acidity leaves it to ginger spice and a dusty minerality to get a grip on the finish. There’s something burgundian about this.

The 2020 Wehlener Sonnenuhr Kabinett offers a sensitive, sublime, complex, exquisite and slightly flinty nose with a coolish and delicate expression of stewed apricots and some greenish berries, whereas the first stony character remains. This irresistible and noble bouquet leads to a round and lush yet refined and savoury palate, with coolish apricot flavours on the long and sustainably salty finish that is firmly structured but elegant and highly stimulating. This is a superb, very elegant and complex, sustainably structured Sonnenuhr. This is a great pleasure to drink, but you can easily keep this Kabinett for over three decades. 8% stated alcohol. From some of the best Riesling territory, anywhere on earth or otherwise. This is soul-crushing stuff, it'll leave you bloody and broken but gagging for more. Multidimensional, ultra-complex yet ultimately welcoming. It lasts for days on the tastebuds. Bloody oath mate.

The Selbachs have been cultivating Riesling vines in the Mosel since 1661. Today, Johannes Selbach and his wife Barbara run the estate, now one of the leading producers in the Mittelmosel. There are 10.6 hectares of vineyards including holdings in Wehlener Sonnenuhr, Zeltinger Sonnenuhr, and Graacher Domprobst. The grapes are handpicked and then fermented in traditional large oak barrels. The emphasis here is on finesse and purity of fruit, producing supremely elegant Kabinett and Spätlese wines as well as powerful, concentrated Auslese wines.

For 300 years, the Richter family has owned and farmed vineyards in the central Mosel area. Working 16ha of vines, they have consistently produced some of the region’s best Rieslings. The deep valley, cut through the landscape by the Mosel river, has some of the wine world’s most impressive yet precipitously sloping vineyards. From younger parcels in premier and grand crus including Brauneberger Juffer, Himmelreich and Treppchen, all grapes are of Qmp status. Quite simply a perfect essence of young, ready to enjoy Mosel style at a deeply tempting price.

The Alsace cooperative, Cave de Hunawihr was founded in 1954 to help re-establish winemaking traditions in a region greatly affected by World War Two. The results have been overwhelmingly positive and Hunawihr now comprises 110 members. The cooperative has a newly renovated, modern winery and comprises 200 hectares of vineyards. 80% of these vines are in Hunawihr, with the remaining 20% in the neighbouring communes, Riquewihr and Zellenberg. They also have 13 hectares in Grand Cru holdings, including Rosacker, Froehn, Sporen, Schoenenbourg and Osterberg.

This open, expressive spaetlese perfectly demonstrates the quality of the iconic Wehlener Sonnenuhr. Succulent, like an over-ripe pear, with mint and mineral notes, cool and bright with tight lime acidity.

The Erdener Treppchen is one of the most legendary vineyard sites on the Mosel and was already an active vineyard in Roman times. The iron-rich, red slate soil gives the Rieslings grown here their very own intense minerality and raciness.

An Auslese from a vineyard as revered as the Bernkasteler Badstube, with almost a decade of ageing under its belt, is a vanishingly rare find at this price. The typical clarity of Riesling shines through, with lime marmalade accompanying a plethora of ripe fruit notes - pineapple, cantaloupe melon, physalis. A delight now, but this has a long life ahead of it.

The Schoenenbourg Grand Cru dominates Riquewihr, the village next to Hunawihr. This marl-limestone and gypsum hillside favours Riesling. Very fruity; stone fruit, peach, and apricot forward. 8-10g/l RS. Persistent. Soft.

A perfect example of mid-Mosel dry Riesling - but without the alcohol. Delicate white peach fruit, cool slate minerality. Pale, deft and zesty and enticing.

Grapes from parcels planted on clay, marl and limestone soils in the commune of Rorschwihr. All 21 different types of limestone known in the world can be found in the soils of this village, and the sub-soil there is similarly diverse. These soils, and the particular climate of the sites, were discovered by the monks who first made wine here over 400 years ago, and today some of their methods are still used. Organic and biodynamic practices are used to manage the vineyards, although they are not certified. Traditional vinification, with 8 to 12 hours' gentle pressing before fermentation with indigenous yeasts. For this wine, fermentation lasted for around five months, then it rested on its lees until April before being aged in tank until bottling in autumn. Rolly-Gassmann is a domaine like no other and has a unique style. It is located at Rorschwihr, a sleepy village on the northern rim of Haut-Rhin. The vineyards are located in Rorschwihr and the neighbouring Rodern and Bergheim. The wines are small masterpieces with very good definition. They all carry the signature of Rolly-Gassmann, a certain shameless, velvety sweetness. The fruit is rich and manages to balance the fruit with a vibrant acidity to form wines that melt on the palate.
