Filey Bay hails from the Spirit of Yorkshire Distillery, and the coastal whisky combines both pot and column still whiskies aged in a combination of bourbon and sherry casks.
Whilst the overall style remains light and fruity, with familiar notes of vanilla and citrus, the extra maturation time gives Filey Bay Second Release a more rounded flavour with added depth.

Totally different to anything we’re released before, this ‘field to bottle’ single malt is light and floral, with layers of summer berries and vanilla ice cream. There’s a sweet and oaky spiciness that hints at a fantastic glass of Spanish red wine. Distilled in 2016, Filey Bay STR Finish first spent years maturing in bourbon casks before transferring to be ‘finished’ in STR red wine barriques from sunny Rioja in Spain. STR refers to Shaving, Toasting and Re-charring the casks, resulting in a cask that delivers a really beautiful and balanced maturation.
Lighty peated single malt whisky from a small batch vatting of american and French oak casks, predominantly STR with a significant element of ex-bourbon, chosen to promote the house style of fruit forward new make.
A distinctive and unusual single malt, it's created by maturing our single malt whisky in both ex-bourbon and virgin oak casks (53% column distillate and 47% pot). Very different from anything we’ve released before, the virgin oak brings fruity and spicy notes, whilst the ex-bourbon casks balance this with vanilla and toffee flavours.
As with all our whiskies, Filey Bay Peated Finish Batch #2 has been created to have depth, complexity and nuance for those with established palates, whilst not overwhelming those newer to whisky.
How smoky is this release? Our Peated Finish is all about balance; soft and sweet with a gentle twist of smoke making this Filey Bay release perfect for any whisky fan whatever their preference. Whilst softer and fruitier than Batch #1, Batch #2 has a touch more smoke. A firm favourite of the distillery team, and a great stepping stone into a style of whisky that some can find a little extreme.
