Le Général is a suitably serious, even patrician blend of Cabernet Sauvignon, 23% Merlot and 8% each of Malbec and Petit Verdot from the cooler Jonkershoek Valley. Framed by 40% new French oak, it has ample colour and concentration, damson, blueberry and blackcurrant fruit and a firm, brooding finish.

Rolly-Gassmann is a domaine like no other and has a unique style. It is located at Rorschwihr, a sleepy village on the northern rim of Haut-Rhin. The vineyards are located in Rorschwihr and the neighbouring Rodern and Bergheim. The wines are small masterpieces with very good definition. They all carry the signature of Rolly-Gassmann, a certain shameless, velvety sweetness. The fruit is rich and manages to balance the fruit with a vibrant acidity to form wines that melt on the palate.

Xavier Gerard is one of the most exciting young winemakers working in the Northern Rhône. We're very excited about this stunning new release from our friends at Il Palazzone. Please see below notes from their site: "2020 sees the release of a small bottling of 2000 liters of Brunello made from fruit exclusively from this special vineyard. Vintage 2015 is the first Le Due Porte Brunello. 2000 liters represents under half of the wine made from these 1.24 hectares (3 acres). Le Due Porte is 540 metres above sea level. Budbreak is later here, often avoiding issues with late frosts and snow. Ripening is slow and constant. The soil profile preserves humidity; important when making a wine such as Brunello that does not contemplate irrigation. Alberese has high levels of calcium carbonate which favors acidity, aided and abetted by the slower ripening and later harvest due to the exposition and altitude. We generally pick Le Due Porte as much as two weeks after our vineyards in Castelnuovo dell’Abate and are often amongst the last in Montalcino to harvest. The grapes develop organoleptic complexity from that extra hang-time and from the pronounced difference between day and night temperatures. In fact the altitude guarantees extreme thermal excursion even in hotter years which is wonderful for aromatic development. Over the last two decades we have seen, year after year, a pronounced character emerge in the fruit from this vineyard, a wine that maintains the typical structure of a Brunello vecchio stampo and epitomises finesse and elegance."

Berene Sauls has a very unique story. Growing up in a small village in the Overberg, Berene admits that she came from a beer-drinking community, and wine was never really on her radar. Her first exposure was at the age of 19, when she began working for the trailblazing Hamilton Russell family as an au pair. Lasting only a month, her talents at childcare aside, Anthony Hamilton Russell recognised her drive and thought a job working in the winery office would better suit her. Thrown in at the deep end knowing really nothing about wine, she was soon exposed to every side of the business - assisting with exports, bottling and labelling, driving forklifts and picking during harvest too, as well as on the side, "growing and developing a palate that wasn't there!" Her curiosity kept her rising through the ranks, and fifteen years after starting her career, Anthony offered her the opportunity to make her first wine, aided by proficient head winemaker Emul Ross. She leapt at the opportunity, and the rest is history. She named her business Tesselaarsdal for the small village that she grew up in, and if you look closely at the label, you can make out two people walking across the mountain. This is Berene and her grandmother. From unirrigated vineyards on the Hemel-en-Aarde Ridge, and this is just her third release! Crisp acidity and lean minerality underpin notes of melon and tangerine fruit and accents of lime blossom. A triumphant expression of terroir, this medium-bodied, cool climate wine is both silky and fresh and boasts a long, elegant finish.

The 'house' Barolo from Rivetto. The only producer who grows organically and biodynamically and is certified in the DOCG. This beautiful Serralunga is grown on soils of serravallian origin, which are clay-limestone. Soil with sub-alkaline reaction, with presence of magnesium, calcium and iron. On east, south-east and north-east slopes at between 340-420 metres altitude from the vineyards of Serra, Manocino and San Bernardo. Selection in stages, carried out three times in the 45 days before the start of the harvest. Manually harvested as late as possible. The must sees stem and grape seeds removal, pressing and room temperature maceration for two days. Total duration of maceration is 20-25 days. The wine then see natural fermentation on its wild yeast at 28-30° C. Malolactic completed. The wines is then aged in large Slavonian oak barrels (30hL) for 30 months, aged in bottle for further ten months before release. . A pale, elegant example of Barolo from Serralunga. Violets, rose hips, tobacco and leather are surrounded by gorgeous red fruits and elegant tannins. Enrico works wonders in this area to produces such ethereal, beautiful wines with grace and power that shall drink well on release and develop further interest for at least twenty years from this superb vintage. This wine comes from an estate and is made by a family rooted since several generations on the hillsides of the Garonne river. The family managed to keep the passion for the vineyard and the sweet wines until today by respecting tradition and innovation with one goal: producing very good wines.

Amber colour with greenish nuances. Intense nose of great complexity, standing-out the dried fruit aromas, harmoniously combined with vanilla and honey touches. Since the addition of the excellent Brochon vineyards in 2020, what was already a very good wine is now an excellent one, perhaps with a little more grip and structure than in the past, without losing that classic Leroux purity and accessibility. The nose is pure Gevrey; chalky red berry fruits, a floral touch and a twist of spice. The palate is juicy with waves of succulent red berry fruit and a refreshing limestone finish. Drink 2024-2032.

Ridge have made this Zinfandel every year for fifty-six years. Consistency of quality and vineyard character are its hallmarks. A dry winter with a moderate spring and summer ripened the grapes evenly. Showing plentiful fruit, elegant tannins and bright acidity, this fine wine will develop fully over the next fourteen years.

Benjamin was able to keep the lees after racking as they were so pure and continue to nourish the wine. Very pale in colour. There is plenty of energy here, lemon infused up front, just the right flesh behind, with a long, agile finish.

How can one not love that instant bath of flowers, fruits and spice that this wine delivers? No holding back, no reticence at all, just a wash of Cornish Point indulgence - all leading to a flowing silky finish. Through the entire palate there is a gentle mineral seam that stops anything from tipping over into excess, so it seduces rather than hollers. There will be no lack of complexity to come for those with patience, but it is very hard to resist now. Lionel Comelade produces this stunning wine from ancient vine Macabeu and Grenache Gris grown on amazing black and white schist soil vineyards between Estagel and Latour de France in the Roussillon. Both white grapes were harvested later in the season in 1992 with high sugar levels. The grapes were partially fermented in concrete vats and then neutral brandy was added to stop fermentation and keep natural sweetness in the wine. Then the wine was passed to second use oak barrels and left in the cellar for 34 years before bottling (to order). No ‘topping up’ of the barrels occurred in the 34 years. The wine is tremendous, possibly surpassing the 1988. It is ‘ambre’ in colour. A bright, wild nose with orange rind, orange oil and warm spices. The palate is thrilling with great complexity and depth with thrilling, wild acidity which really charms. Astonishing and quite unique. The wine is one of the best value fortified wines in the world. 34 years of age, so interesting and delicious. A steal at this price. please note: The photo is of a different vintage.

Outstanding Chianti Classico Gran Selezione from the cooler north west of Chianti. Grown on soils very similar to Felsina's vineyards in Berardenga, this cooler terroir in Argiano helps produce a wine of great energy, elegance and inherent harmony. La Vigna di San Martino ad Argiano is the personal project of Giampaolo Chiettini. Giampaolo spent a good number of years working alongside Paolo di Marchi at Isole e Olena where he fell deeply in love with Sangiovese and honed his skills and became a very highly regarded winemaker of the region. Antinori and Ca' del Bosco have also used Giampaolo's services over the years. He still consults and makes wine for the outstanding Castagnoli and brilliant newcomers Ejamu amongst others. It's another powerhouse from this small estate in Barberino. Only 24 bottles available from this small and prestigious vineyard in 2018. Briccolina is the pioneer vineyard for Rivetto's biodynamic approach, introduced in 2015. It is the only Barolo Cru granted the Demeter certification. It is a vineyard-garden, a poly-culture entirely worked by hand. Situated in Serralunga d’Alba at 340 meters with west/south-west exposure. The soil is clay-limestone, with an abundant presence of marl at a depth of two meters. Soil with sub-alkaline reaction. Scaled selection, carried out three times during the 45 days before the grape harvest. Manually harvested as late as possible. Stalk and grape seeds removal/pressing and maceration for sixty days, half of which with submerged-cap and the other half with a floating cap. No controlling of temperature during the fermentation that occurs naturally on the wild yeasts of this special garden in large, open-topped wooden vats. Malolactic completed. Aged in 15-hl oak barrels for 36 months, then aged in bottle for a further 16 months before release. Sometimes the bottles are held back a further five years. "This Barolo opens with darker fruit notes of black cherry and warmed raspberry. Wild herbs, dried leaf and cedar notes waft from the glass as it opens. The 2022 Clos de la Roche Grand Cru on this encounter was so pure and suave that one might have mistaken it for the Clos Saint-Denis. Offering up aromas of raspberries, cherries, sweet spices, orange zest and peony, it's full-bodied, supple and seamless, with a deep core of fruit, sweet, powdery tannins and a long, sapid finish. There is more underlying muscle and tannin here, however, and I would be surprised to see that assert itself a little more obviously in bottle. Harvest at Domaine Dujac began on August 29. At the time, Jeremy Seysses thought of the vintage as potentially reminiscent of 2018—tasting the wines this winter, he feels that they're more delicate, while also admitting that he was even more cautious about extraction in 2022. Whatever the apposite analogy, the result is clear: a superb portfolio of beautifully balanced wines that unite charm and density. Readers, of course, will be familiar with the outlines of the Dujac approach to producing red Burgundy: organic farming, fermentation with a predominance of whole clusters and élevage in barrels largely sourced from Tonnellerie Rémond. None of that seems to have changed in 2022, despite a new winery where stainless steel vats have replaced concrete. The wines retain, nay exalt in, their distinctive identity.

Macán Clásico is a wine firmly rooted in the Sonsierra in La Rioja. Drawing its character from the slopes of the Sierra de Cantabria, the wine has inherent freshness, fruitiness, and vibrancy. The Macán Clásico is vinified in stainless-steel tanks to maximise fruit purity. The winemaking team was attentive to integrating the oak seamlessly during the subsequent maturation. The wine is aged for10 months in barrels (new and second-use French extra-fine grained oak). Maturation is completed with 18 months in bottle before release. The Vintage. Spring was mild with ideal flowering. A hailstorm on 16 June affected 7 hectares. Harvest occurred in stable weather 19thSeptember to 7th October.

Clos Saint-Denis is a Grand Cru vineyard within the commune of Morey-Saint-Denis in Burgundy’s Côte de Nuits. This small Grand Cru of 6.6ha in fact gave its name to the village of Morey-Saint-Denis in which it is located. The name is a reference to the martyred Saint-Denis de Vergy who founded the monastic order which first planted this vineyard between the 11th and 13th centuries. The rocky clay-limestone soil and sun-catching easterly exposure of Clos Saint-Denis produces Pinot Noirs which are relatively light in structure (the are not quite so firmly structured as its Grand Cru twin, Clos de la Roche, for example), but with finely nuanced aromatics and seductive Pinot fruit. The main landowners in Clos Saint-Denis are Domaine Dujac and Domaine Georges Lignier.
