17/20 Tamlyn Currin, jancisrobinson.com "Smells of mimosa and cold pebbles. So tight it's as if the fruit has been hot-waxed onto the palate. Wild, wild fruit and flowers, all hedgerow and fields. Iodine and salt, dust and dry bricks, saffron and yuzu. So much texture it's like licking chalk-dusted rose petals. Fascinating wine, that changes as you sit with it, like sunset dropped into a kaleidoscope, like light on water. Masses of undertow, savoury and sweet. GV"

100% Mauzac from one parcel at 300 m on a plateau of Eocene molasse (marl, sandstone, schist, pebbles). In final year of conversion to organic certification, natural cover cropping. Yields 32 hl/ha. 60-year-old vines. Hand-sorted, only best free-run juice used. Fermented and aged in seasoned oak barrels with occasional bâtonnage. RS 0 g/l, TA 3.39 g/l, pH 3.29.
Late-picked naturally sweet Moscato (Muscat) grapes produce this irresistible fizz. A smell like a bag of sultanas leads on to sweet baked-apple fruit. Try it ice cold as a refreshing aperitif (5.5% abv), with fruity puddings or even cheese.
A small family grower in the famous village of Cumieres in the Marne valley. Pinot-dominated like most wines from this village, it's deep copper/gold and wonderfully peachy and lush, explosively juicy, and cracking value. The extended bottle ageing of this wine (6-8 years) is way longer most NV Champagnes and lends the wines its weight and character. But it's also fresh and lemony which is such a great combination. Judges on a Decanter tasting panel were all blown away by this Cuvée when tasting it blind with other Grower Champagnes in 2019, giving it 98 points and one of the best rated wines of the year. We love it too and have been shipping it direct from the Bertrand family since 2008.
