Chateau Haut Nouchet
Pessac-Leognan, just south of the city of Bordeaux, features gravel-rich soils that produce wines with excellent clarity and definition. Odyssée is a cuvée by Château Haut Nouchet, and its vines are some of the highest elevation in the appellation. The blend is about 60/40 Cabernet Sauvignon/Merlot, with a splash of Petit Verdot. We found this wine impressive in its combination of intensity and restraint. The nose is dark and polished with plum and wild cherries, and notes of liquorice and spice. The mouth is inky and dark but the fruit is laid over a beautifully clean structure of fine gravely tannin. This is a classy, sleek Bordeaux with a beautifully balanced mouthfeel, that tastes a lot more expensive than it is.

Chateau Croix Cardinale
90-92/100 Wine Advocate "Dominique and Florence Decoster, owners of Fleur Cardinale, acquired this 4.5-hectare vineyard in Saint-Étienne-de-Lisse adjacent to their own in April 2012. Not surprisingly, the soils are quite similar, composed of clay and limestone. The average age of the vines was 37 years in 2018. Yields were 40 hectoliters per hectare. Aging is projected to run for 12-14 months in 100% new French oak barrels. The blend is 75% Merlot and 25% Cabernet Franc, and the wine has 14.5% alcohol. From the Thibaud lieu-dit, the 2018 Croix Cardinale is deep garnet-purple colored and sings of crushed red and black cherries, wild blueberries and fragrant earth with wafts of garrigue and lavender. Medium to full-bodied, soft, lively and juicy in the mouth, it delivers great purity and poise."

RS 140 g/l, TA 4.0 g/l. Pale gold. Quite mineral/oily on the nose, some very ripe fruit underneath. Honey and lemon on the palate. Rich apricot fruit, very tangy and full. Touch of barley sugar on the finish. Warm and full and luscious so much so that the freshness is not so obvious.

Domaine de Chevalier
Deep crimson. Pure dark fruit, elegantly inviting. Smells as if there is some Cab Franc even though there isn’t; that fine leafiness. Lovely depth of fruit, fully ripe but elegant and refined not bumptious or overripe. Pure fruit, cedary complexity and flowing tannins.

Lur Saluces
Tasted blind at the 10-Year On Tasting in Sauternes. The 2005 Château de Fargues has a rich and intense bouquet with layers of honey, dried peach, beeswax and acacia that soar from the glass. The palate is powerful and authoritative: intense botrytis-rich honeyed fruit with compelling mineralité underneath. It fans out in glorious fashion – a stunning de Fargues that is now beginning to show its talents. As I remarked a couple of years ago, just afford it a couple more years so that it can fully absorb the vestiges of oak. Drink 2018-2045. 95 pts Neal Martin, Wine Advocate (219), June 2015

Lur Saluces
The de Fargues ’95 has a ripe, generous, quintessential de Fargues nose with tangy marmalade, Seville orange and quince jus, though it does not quite have the razor-sharp delineation of a top-flight wine from the estate. The palate is medium-bodied with a citrus lemon, orange peel and fresh apricot. Like the nose, it would benefit from more tension and animation towards the finish, yet it is certainly generous and should drink well for years to come.

Chateau Grand Puy Ducasse
Grand Puy Casse is a classic Pauillac and this 2nd wine is very fine. Classic creme de cassis notes intermixed with liquorice, a bit of toast in an elegant frame. From vineyards bordering the premier cru sites of Mouton Rothschild, Lafite-Rothschild and Château Pontet-Canet, fruit from 20 year old vines grown on gravel soil is hand-harvested and carefully selected. Fermentation takes place in stainless steel tanks before part of the wine undergoes malolactic conversion in new barrels. The fermented wine is aged in French oak barrels, of which around 30-40% are new each year.

Chateau Leoville Barton
Wine Advocate James Suckling Decanter Jeb Dunnuck Jancis Robinson Jean-Marc Quarin 93-95 96-97 94 95-97 18 17 Jancis Robinson "85.5% Cabernet Sauvignon, 14.5% Merlot. Aged for 18 months in barrel (60% new). Lustrous purple. Minerally, stony, saline nose. Really remarkably opulent on palate entry which almost distracts from those massive tannins underneath. There's just a suggestion of vintage port tannins here (not the sweetness). Very fine winemaking indeed. I have to admit I was tempted to swallow this, it was so majestic. I don't remember being as bowled over by a Léoville Barton at this early stage before. Lovely, confident, persistent finish. Such grace!"

Olivier Cazenave et Chateau
The Bel a Ciao name was taken from the name of a revolutionary song, Oliviers wine making can be quite “revolutionary” and he doesn’t like sticking to the rule book! The wine has refreshing citrus aromas such as tangerine as well as wild flowers. The mouth is fresh, lively and complex with notes of fresh tropical and citrus fruits. A slightly spicy, long lemon finish. The lack of sulfites used in the vineyard and in production combined with careful winemaking, this wine has incredibly low sulfite levels in the finished wine.

Chateau Daviaud
Deep purple colour, rich notes of blackberry and cocoa, plump palate with ripe soft tannins. 45% Merlot - 21% Cabernet Franc - 19% Cabernet Sauvignon - 15% Malbec An assortment of grape varietiesthat clearly illustrates this property’s hillsides origin of the terroir. Its blend makes it a unique Bordeaux wine. Vineyards are planted on slopes, facing south-south-west, on the right bank of the Garonne river, which receives a great amount of sunshine and this ideally mitigates proximity to the river (it also benefits from the bend in the Garonne). Slopes are comprised of limestone covered with shingly gravel soils at their peaks, clay-limestone mid-slope and fine gravel mixed with silica at the foot of these slopes, enabling Merlot grapes not to surpass their phenolic balance and allowing Cabernets to reach their full potential. Malbec produces quite low yields here, but this is compensated by its role in the final blend, bringing smoothness and spicy notes.

Chateau Haut Boutisse
Château Haut Boutisse, Saint Emilion Grand Cru, is a family property that has existed since the middle of the 19th century. Located on the foothills of Saint Emilion, the soil (Graves, clay-limestone and sandy loam) is similar to the greatest properties in Saint-Emilion.. A beautiful garnet colour. The complex nose presents a beautiful synergy between aromas of jammy strawberry and rose accompanied by fine smoky notes and dried figs. The mouth has a very nice balance between volume and freshness. The harvest is done manually. Vinification is a cold pre-fermentation maceration followed by alcoholic fermentation in temperature-controlled stainless steel vats with pumping over/punching down. The wine is aged for 15 months in new barrels (90%) and concrete vats (10%).

Chateau Ferrand
Nicely mature Pomerol made from 95% Merlot. Plummy, vanilla nose with velvety tannins and ripe bright fruit. Great with steak. From south-facing slopes at Château Ferrand, this generous wine has a beautiful deep pomegranate colour and typical scents of violets, ripe plums, cherries and blackcurrants. There is plenty going on besides these fruity and floral notes, with suggestions of cedar, old leather, truffles and coffee beans roasting. In the mouth, there's a delicious, silky smoothness of elegant and perfumed fruit, with, again, supporting flavours of coffee and herbs, with supple tannins in a long, satiny finish.

Chateau Faizeau
The 12 hectare vineyard of Chateau Faizeau is planted to 94% Merlot and 6% Cabernet Franc. The entire vineyard is one large block of vines. The terroir is a mix of sand, clay and limestone soils. On average, the vines are close to 50 years of age. However, the vineyard has some of the oldest vines in the Right Bank. The oldest vines survived the devastating frost of 1956. In fact, they have vines that are more than 100 years of age, as they were planted all the way back in 1911! More than just old vines, their hillside terroir is on perhaps the highest elevation in the appellation. The vineyard, located on the hill of Calon hits 89 meters at its peak.
