Cambridge Wine Merchants
Has to be one of the best-value most impressive French red wines on the UK market. Special edition made for us by famed Chateauneuf grower Roger Sabon, the wine-maker is esteemed Didier Negron. Charmingly honest, hearty (15%!), herbal, dense and punchy, juicy red from the classic southern varieties of Grenache, Syrah, Cinsault & friends. What a beauty, what a bargain. Although full-bodied the wine has soft tannins and a silky texture - this is the beauty of Southern Rhone reds, ready to enjoy as soon as they're made, unlike Bordeaux or Burgundy. Grenache in this hot sunny heaven gives ripe raspberry and black cherry notes and depth, Syrah gives a classic black pepper spice and dark-chocolate grip. A cool fennel / mint edge and lift. 'Declassified' as Vin de France, but this is not a 'negoce' wine made from bought-in grapes: all the grapes come from Sabon estates, and winemaking is by Didier Negron, as per their top wines. About Roger Sabon: Domaine Roger Sabon came into being in 1952 when the family vineyards were split into three distinct entities (the other two being Domaine Chante-Cigale and Clos Mont Olivet). Robert Parker, who awarded their 1988 vintage a perfect 100 rating, the first Chateauneuf-du-Pape so honoured, has this to say about Domaine Roger Sabon: “This estate has been at the top of its game for many years and any partisan of Rhone Valley wines… who has not yet tried a wine from Domaine Roger Sabon should make every effort to do so... This estate has been making exceptionally high-quality wines for years, but recent vintages seem to have risen to a new level of quality.”

The always excellent second wine of Ch Grand Puy Lacoste. Medium to deep garnet-purple colored, the 2017 Lacoste-Borie gives up notes of warm cassis, Morello cherries and wild blueberries with hints of pencil shavings and bay leaves. Medium-bodied, the palate has a lively line and well-played, soft tannins with an herbal lift on the finish.

Chateau Haut-Batailley
The new second wine of Ch Haut-Batailley, a Grand Cru Classé in Pauillac. The nose is aromatic and offers intensity, a fine grain as well as a small sensation of tension. It reveals notes of wild cassis, fresh blackberryand small notes of fresh raspberry associated with touches of spices, bergamot, fresh vanilla, a subtle hint of pepper, fresh nutmeg and a very discreet hint of hazelnut. The palate is fruity, slightly tight, mineral and offers a fine acidulous frame, tension, a beautiful pulpy/ripe fruit and a fine fat. On the palate this wine expresses notes of bright cherry, pulpy/juicy raspberry and small notes strawberry associated with small touches of juicy blackberry as well as hints of tonka bean, toasted and a subtle hint of almond. Good length. A very fine hint of chocolate on the persistence.

Domaine des Soulanes
100% old vine Carignan that was bred all in concrete tanks. Notes of leather, black cherries, plums and savoury herbs all emerge from this medium-bodied, fresh, lively wine. This is seamless and gorgeous stuff from Daniel Laffite. It would cost twice the price if it was from Priorat.

Joey Tensley Wines
"I love making this wine every year because blending the wines gives me so many options. The majority of the blend is Syrah but still has large amounts of Grenache, Mourvedre and a little white wine in to lift the nose. Savory and fruity is hard to accomplish but this wine delivers both. Next time you are having a family outing open this out by the BBQ or fire and watch it evolve over time. Unmistakable California fruit but nuances enough to make you think about the little things this wine offers." Joey Tensley

Marcello Pelleriti
The wines created by Marcelo Pelleriti are performed with the utmost care and dedication. Vine, where they originate, enjoys climatic and geographical conditions especially conducive to achieve great results. The wine is made respecting the great wine tradition: manual harvests, lack of fertilizers and, above all, transport of the grape by gravity. The wines are made entirely by hand and the grapes are facing a double selection: in the bunch and grain by grain. This really is a Malbec that is quite special.

Rivetto
A quite thrilling and utterly extraordinary Nebbiolo d'Alba from the brilliant Enrico Rivetto. The Nebbiolo vines grow on the Lirano hill at Sinio at an altitude 400m with exposure to the west on clay-limestone soils - on the border of Barolo. The grapes are manually harvested late September, destalked and fermented naturally in Amphora with its wild, indigenous yeasts. The wine macerates in these terracotta containers for a very long time. The wine has great energy and tension, it is extraordinarily elegant and wonderfully complex too. A neo-classical marvel of a wine. Enrico has dedicated this wine to the hill where he lives and grows. It's an absolutely extraordinary offering that regularly gets scored in the mid-to high nineties in the American journals, if that's your thing: 94/100 in Wine Enthusiast for the 2021, 96/100 WE and 96/100 in Wine Spectator for the 2019, 95/100 in WE for the 2017 etc, etc. An absolute, slept-on beauty that we are very proud to bring to the UK.

Fantini
The idea of this ??wine came out during a curious meeting between “wine experts”: Valentino Sciotti, today CEO of the “Farnese Group”, Filippo Baccalaro, chief winemaker of the same group and third generation of Piedmontese winemakers, Hugh Johnson, the most famous wine journalist in the world, and Jean Marc Sauboua of the third generation of Bordeaux winemakers. During that particular meeting, 18 years ago, Hugh Johnson launched a challenge to the two young winemakers: that of creating a “great wine” with the character of “Southern Italy”, forged with the best varietals of that territory; a wine with the modest name of “table wine”, but with the soul of “a great wine”, that stands out for its ability to be unique and extraordinarily superior to what the market offers. Montepulciano, Primitivo, Negroamaro, Sangiovese & Malvasia Nera. Astonishing 3-time winner of 99/100 Luca Maroni "Best Italian Red 2018". Previous IWC Abruzzo Trophy. Grower voted best in Italy 3 times. Massive, Epic wine. 100% new oak (60% American 40% French)

Domaines des Lampyres
Very rare indeed. A tiny amount for the UK. Ubuntu is organically grown 80% Grenache Gris and 20% Grenache Noir from schist soil over a bed of clay-limestone that sees skin macération and whole bunch fermentation for seven days. This fermenting juice is transferred and left to breed in amphora for five months. Bottled with a very low dose of sulphites, unfined and unfiltered. Amazing tension. This feels like a "light red wine" to us (albeit one with tension and real interest), so that's what we have called it. Amazing, and in limited quantities.

Domaine Danjou-Banessy
Natural, biodynamic and vegan. Grenache, Carignan and Mourvedre from 80 year old vines, Made without filtering or fining. Pale but gorgeous mid red colour. At first on the nose, you are like "What even is that?". Whatever it is, you know that you like it. Elegant, subtle fruit is intermixed with gentle herb, earth and savoury characters. Deep and wonderful. On the palate the wine is elegant and deep again, but not heavy in the slightest. Ruffled fruit and savoury notes with minerality and real finesse. These wines are like no other from the Roussillon. Outstanding.

Domaine Gayda
The debut vintage in 'bottle' for Chemin de Moscou 'Reflet'. The previous few years have only been available as a special release magnum. Grenache-led with Syrah follwoing along in a fine style. The wine is deep, smoooth and beautifully sweet-fruited, but like its opposite, the classic Chemin de Moscou, the wines shows tremendous focus of line and length. The wine impresses very much now, but due to the controlled focus at its heart, it shall live a long time in the bottle.

Charles Melton's Nine Popes is a nod to the great wines of Châteauneuf-du-Pape and is as rich, powerful and beautifully balanced as the best examples from the Rhône in France. Almost a permanent feature in Matthew Jukes' 100 Best Australian Wines. The wine is aged on lees for 24-28 months in French oak, of which 60% is new oak. The wine is then naturally settled and bottled without fining. Nine Popes is deep red in colour with a floral bouquet. The palate is structured and spicy with sweet red fruit and floral flavours which will develop further over time. It is rich and complex in the Popes tradition.

Terres Falmet
Glorious old vine Mourvedre from the wonderful Yves Falmet (who is as vegan as his wines). Yves has a single, steep vineyard of old vine varieties planted in southern Saint-Chinian. Mourvedre cannot be used 100% and be called Saint Chinian, so this is a Vin de France. Silky, fine and long, with vibrant fruit, great balance and perfect ripeness. An amazing value wine.

Rivetto
The vineyard is situated at the top of Lirano Hill between Sinio and Serralunga d’Alba villages at 340-400m with exposure to the west, south and east on clay-limestone soils. Literally a few steps from the Barolo border. The vineyard is manually harvested in late September. The grapes are destalked and wildly fermented with their indigenous yeasts. The wine is then aged in large, traditional, Slavonian oak. It produces a compact and also delicate wine at the same time. The fruit is pure, the tannins well rounded. A very tasty, wholesome Langhe Nebbiolo indeed.

Felton Road
The complete epitome of this iconic wine. Dark fruits, crushed herbs, silky but palpable texture, weightless power, chocolate tannins with wafts of smoky mocha, followed by the length that defines its reputation. When a wine is this true to its hallmarks, one is left with very little to say. Joe Czerwinski, Robert Parker's Wine Advocate "Felton Road...consistently reviewed by this publication since the 1997 vintage... pacesetting biodynamic producer." This time it's not a pure varietal, as it contains some 6% Cabernet Sauvignon in the final blend. This is a Cabernet Franc all about finesse but with enough power and character.
