The idea of this ??wine came out during a curious meeting between “wine experts”: Valentino Sciotti, today CEO of the “Farnese Group”, Filippo Baccalaro, chief winemaker of the same group and third generation of Piedmontese winemakers, Hugh Johnson, the most famous wine journalist in the world, and Jean Marc Sauboua of the third generation of Bordeaux winemakers. During that particular meeting, 18 years ago, Hugh Johnson launched a challenge to the two young winemakers: that of creating a “great wine” with the character of “Southern Italy”, forged with the best varietals of that territory; a wine with the modest name of “table wine”, but with the soul of “a great wine”, that stands out for its ability to be unique and extraordinarily superior to what the market offers. Rolly-Gassmann is a domaine like no other and has a unique style. It is located at Rorschwihr, a sleepy village on the northern rim of Haut-Rhin. The vineyards are located in Rorschwihr and the neighbouring Rodern and Bergheim. The wines are small masterpieces with very good definition. They all carry the signature of Rolly-Gassmann, a certain shameless, velvety sweetness. The fruit is rich and manages to balance the fruit with a vibrant acidity to form wines that melt on the palate.

From a breathtaking 0.5 hectare site on Chaban at 400+ metres altitude that was passed on to the Roudier family by the retiring Jean-Marie Teysseire, a legendary figure in Cornas and Saint-Peray. The Syrah vines are 80++ yrs of age on granitic soils including a portion of the mineral baryte, a clear crystal/quartz looking mark that gives the wine its mysterious sounding name. The vines are deeply established on this steep hillside, cut into terraces and oriented East/South-East. An utterly beautiful, natural granite amphitheatre that protects the vines from the cold winds. Beautiful Syrah expresses all its power and finesse on this wonderful Cornas terroir. The debut vintage of this full-bodied terroir wine - which doesn't initially appear to be representative of the "Northern Rhone 2021" vintage - spring frost, harvest rain affected. But from what we have tasted, Cornas in general appears little affected, likely due to the elevation of the vineyards and the gradients of the slopes. So watch out for sleeping Cornas bargains like this from 2021. The wine has a fairly classic Cornas nose, on the palate it is voluminous, lush and suave but fresh and balanced with real tension and energy. The wine is pure and very long. All the fruit destemmed, no oak breeding (all in stainless steel) with a four week maceration. A true terroir wine from a great Cornas site. This 2021 is very impressive now and shall reveal its elegance and finesse over the coming years. What a wine!

Natural, Organic, Biodynamic Macabeu, fermented and aged in barrels, racy and minerally with soft texture and generous fruit.

A complex wine with fresh acidity, brown spices, nuts and citrus peel, and an extraordinarily long finish. Serve chilled as an aperitif, with seafood or smoked fish. Madeira should be cellared upright. It loves light, heat and air, but hates frost.

Escaravailles rare top end white we are very lucky to see an allocation of. Even with a hot, short vintage Madeline has produced a very fine, elegant, juicy long and fine Rhone wine.

A quite unique expression of 100% Canaiolo from Jamu's organic vineyards. Ripening later than their Sangiovese in the latter half of September. The beautiful fruit (a selection of the very best bunches from the vineyard) is picked when perfectly ripe by hand and sorted in small crates. 100% destemmed and gently crushed, the wine is left to ferment on its wild yeasts. Macerated for two weeks with a little, very gentle pump-over daily. The wine is run off to older French tonneaux and left to rest for nine months then put to bottle for a further six months before release. Direct, long and pure wine. Some darker as well as brighter red fruits mix deliciously on a lovely savoury, fresh palate. A must try - think lamb rubbed in rosemary and salt cooked on the grill. Think Sangiovese with lighter tannins. Marvellous wine and a must-try this spring and summer. The legendary and completely wonderful Giampaolo Chiettini helps the young (very young!) Rocco (24!) and his sister Meca (25!) on their beautiful estate in DOC Valdarno di Sopra. A very exciting estate to watch at this embryonic stage.

Red and black fruits, intense and ethereal bouquet of vanilla, full, firm but velvety flavours with a fine lingering aftertaste of liquorice and ripe red fruits.

Mineral and herbaceous aromas on the nose. Red fruits, mint and eucalyptus. A beautiful wine. This has got to be one of the best Malbecs I have tasted in a long time. Juan Pablo Lupa is such a passionate wine maker and the intensity shows in his wines. Rich and elegant, not too heavy, very smooth and silky. Lovely flavours with vanilla coming through on the lvery ong finish.

A beautifully put-together claret, made from 80% Merlot and 20% Cabernet Franc from vineyards located on cool limestone soils. The terrific Stephane Derenencourt consults here. Lovely extraction with lots of fruit, ripe tannin and acidity. Long and complex and able to age although beautiful now. Attractive, deep ruby. Delicate nose scented with wild strawberries, fig, dried plum and a smoke touch. The palate is full-bodied with silky tannins and displays wonderful harmony with pleasant, lingering fruit. An elegant, beautifully crafted wine.

Pietrabianca is an elegant Chardonnay produced on the Bocca di Lupo estate in the Murgia area of Apulia. The distinctive characteristic of this area is its pietra, stone.Pietrabianca refers to the stones that rural farmers hit while ploughing the fields and once they were crushed and ground into the soil, helped enhance the aromas of the wines grown there. Rich, complex and at the same time fresh and pleasant, Pietrabianca shows that Apulia is a region of great white wines, too.

A seductive combination of white nectarine, pink grapefruit and candied orange rind mingles with the more savoury aromas of roasted chestnuts and hot buttered brioche – an elaborate concoction infused with linseed and woodsmoke. The savouriness carries through onto a wonderfully dry palate that has great texture and concentration, with distinct flintiness, tight structure and terrific ageing potential.

St Aubin has got to be one of the best value wines in Burgundy. This is a full-bodied, generous and precise wine. Easily accessible, it is the perfect accompaniment for aperitifs or a simple cooked meat (charcuterie), poultry or fish dishes.

This Roboul cuvée exudes lifted fruit aromas in abundance with blackberries, blueberries, pomegranates and also gentle garrigue notes. On the palate it is velvety with curious, beautiful interest. There is a perfect balance between alcohol and acidity and it ends with a striking freshness. It's a marvelous wee wine. Full bottle 1,341 g. Single vineyard. 60% Mourvèdre (20 years old), 40% Grenache (30 years old) on pudding stone, clay, sand and limestone tuffeau. Hand-picked; whole-bunch, spontaneous fermentation; minimal cap work; very gently pressed. Fermented separately because the Mourvèdre ripens so much later than the Grenache. 12 months in old oak barrels of 600, 500 and 400 litres. "If I’d not known what this wine was, and put it to my nose, my first guess would be Pinot Noir, Tasmania. Rosehips. Nectarine skin. Hibiscus tea. Morels. Then, after tasting it, I’d change my mind. I’d wonder if this was Cinsault, one of Alex Milner’s wraith-like beauties, perhaps: the bruised rose petals, the jasmine tea, the taste of prickly pears and dust and pungent-peppery-green at the back of my throat. Then I smell garrigue - cistus, broom heather, wild thyme, the smell of the wind blowing through holm oaks and twisted pines and I am in the south of France. This is the fey child of Roussillon. Outstanding Vin Santo produced from half Trebbiano and half Malvasia trained to guyot and grown organically in San Casciano Val di Pesa, Argiano at an altitude of 300m. The grapes were hand-picked on September 20th 2017 and were placed on bamboo racks to dry for four months until they were gently pressed the following January and run off to ferment and breed on 110l 'Caratelli' barrels for the next five years. The wine was bottled in Febuary 2023. Only 436 37.5cl bottles were produced in total. The wine came out at 13.5 % abv with a residual sugar level of 290 g/l and a total acidity of 6.3 g/l. You know you are on to something special when Monica Larner of erobertparker.com writes of the wine "This is an extremely precious production of just 400 bottles (tiny 375-milliliter bottles), and I am honored to review this wine....an excellent and precious Vin Santo del Chianti Classico". We feel very honoured to have 120 of these truly wonderful little bottles to share with you.

Xavier Gerard is one of the most exciting young winemakers working in the Northern Rhône. He is a young grower who took over his family's small domaine in earnest in 2012 and in no time has turned out incredibly elegant and traditionally made Syrahs and Viogniers.

Not only is the magnificent Gigondas estate 500 years old, it's owned by Daniel and Frédéric Brunier. Know the name? They are behind Châteauneuf's leading estate, Vieux Télégraphe. Meting out the same care, they produce this rich, old-vine Gigondas. And Daniel reckons that 2019 is his best vintage to date. A perfectly balanced wine, finely poised and with great length.

Wow, if the 2021 showed some of the extraordinary potential of this incredible Cornas site, this 2022 shows it a good deal more - it is without doubt, an outstanding wine. This time the wine has been aged in 500l. demi-muids, with 25% new. Beautiful floral aromatics on the nose with glorious lifted fruit. on the nose. Dense and multi-layered fruit on the palate that finishes with mineral and iron notes. Beautifully knit tannins wrap all this up wonderfully. Huge potemtial here.

This Claret is fresh and balanced. The blend is Merlot-based and the wine is aged in French oak barrels for 12 months, giving a nice aroma of spice and wood smoke. The palate is fleshy with a hint of plum, the tannins fine and firm, leading to a generous finish. Drink now to 2036

95% Nerello Mascalese from a vineyard located on the south-western slope of the Etna volcano, in the town of Biancavilla, within the Etna D.O.C. in Sicily. Rustic, mineral, even herbal , but with a smooth and generous fruity core.

Le Finage, which means territory, is the name given to this wine from different Marsannay plots. The vines grow on several clay-limestone soils, producing a fully rounded wine, in which you will find energetic tannins, fruity aromas (raspberry), and spices. Consistency and freshness mark the finish of this perfect ambassador for the appellation. We recommend drinking this wine during its dynamic first 5 years, but it can be kept for longer. It may be necessary to decant certain vintages in their first few years. Depending on the vintage, we use 50% whole-bunch fermentation. The wine is aged for about 12 months in barrels (with 15% of new barrels) and 6 months in stainless steel tanks.

Honeyed, cedar, orange peel with notes of spiced fruit, lemon marmalade and a lingering sweet finish. Heavenly!

Aromas of flaky pastry and apricot, then powerful on the palate, with rich, unctuous baked apricot fruit. There's good, deep-set acidity within and it finishes dry with a luxurious spread across the palate. Classic white Châteauneuf that has sufficient interest and flavour even without any oak. Drink young. Fermented then aged in stainless steel.

Attractive cassis nose with powerful, concentrated fruit aromas. Fresh, rich, firm and full of fruit including, dark berries and chocolate. A wine with good body, structure and length. Single Quinta wines need decanting as they are usually a decade old, and will throw a sediment as they age. Walnuts are an excellent accompaniment to Vintage Port, along with rich flavoured cheeses such as Silton and dried fruits.

Davide Bottai is the fourth generation to produce wine at Castellaccio. The vineyards are all high elevation for the Chianti Classico DOCG, all between 500m and 700m. Split between Lamole and Lucolena, including some of the highest vineyard sites, and, THE very highest vineyard site in all of Chianti Classico. The Coste de Felice 2023 sees fruit from vineyards in both Lamole and Lucolena - organic, 100% Sangiovese. The grapes are hand harvested. Grapes are sorted further and softly crushed. The wine sees a natural, wild ferment in cement tank, and after completion, is run off to large old botti (wooden cask} to age for 12 months before bottling. The wine rests for a further 6 months in bottle before release. Wow! What a gloriously pure, red-fruited nose with floral and savoury elements. Simply glorious. On the palate, the attack is a similar injection of bright red fruits - so pure and seamless until the pitch-perfect acidity and glorious kick of beautifully done Sangiovese tannins kick in. This is energetic, salty, mineral wine of the highest order. Or, as Giampaolo Chiettini says "It's a wine that is hugely enjoyable, and one with a rebellious soul". Davide (with Giampaolo Chiettini by his side) has produced a wonderful style of Chianti Classico from this nearly once-abandoned part of the DOCG. Mark our words, these wines shall further add to the work of other great domaines of re-establishing these wonderful, high-altitude vineyards.
