Energy is a word used a lot by the finest Roussillon growers. We don't think there has been a finer example than this extraordinary wine from the freres Danjou. The 2019 is more 'Cote-Rotie' than the 'Crozes like' 2018. A thrilling wine.

The Guimberteau family has owned the Château Franc-Baudron estate since 1923. This is a vineyard on a human scale where each generation has left its footprint on the family heritage. Since 2010, the new generation of Château Franc-Baudron has embarked on an environmental approach by converting the entire vineyard to organic farming. The area hosts bee-hives, uses plants for treatments (horsetail, nettle and ferns) and seeds flowers to encourage biodiversity of wildlife in the vines. They have begun implementing new winemaking techniques by using minimal inputs to express at its best the nature of the grapes and the type of soil. Most of the family’s plots of Montagne Saint-Emilion are located on a clay-limestone plateau. Bright and intense in colour with aromas of blackcurrant, blackberry and oak notes.Well balanced, powerful and velvety.

The core blend of Monte Bello 2022 was assembled by the production team over two days in February. Out of twenty-six candidate lots, fourteen were selected at this stage, with a few earmarked as potential additions at the next blending session. The team reconvened on May 3rd for the second and final assemblage of 2022 Monte Bello. The panel of eight determined that, of the three further lots being presented, just one had the qualities consistent with Monte Bello. The addition of this lot will result in a final blend of 89% Cabernet Sauvignon, 9% Merlot, 1% Cabernet Franc and 1% Petit Verdot. The typically intense dark purple colour of a young Monte Bello belies the vivid aromatics: the nose opens with a wonderful floral aroma over the precise berry fruit. There is copious structure, but it is very fine-grained even at this early stage. Splendid balance and harmony already, with an ultra-long finish indicating the great potential of this wine.

The Bardos Reserva is an elegant high-altitude expression of Ribera del Duero wine made from low-yielding Tempranillo and Cabernet Sauvignon. Aged for 14 months in oak, it has excellent structure from balanced tannins and acidity, alongside complex notes of dark fruit, chocolate and vanilla spice.

A pure, fresh and approachable Barolo from talented winemaker Gian Luca Colombo. Award-winning winemaker and consultant Gian Luca has a tiny 4 hectare of vines and whose winery is located in his garage (literally a garagiste producer) in the small northern Barolo commune of Roddi. He works organically in the vineyards and has a low interventionist approach in the winery the absolute key being to allow the vineyards and vintages to show their individual characteristics in the bottle. The grapes for his Barolo come from the Bricco Ambrogio cru in Roddi itself, Roere di Santa Maria, and the noted cru of Bussia, all harvested in October and maturing for at least 18 months in Austrian oak before a further 3 months in clay amphorae. This quite simply has to be among the most approachable and enjoyable young Barolos we have tried and although has decades left in it yet is a pleasure to drink now. Intense aromas with great depth and concentration of pure fruit with slight, lifted floral and minerally notes. The palate is fresh and smooth with loads of juicy, ripe fruits, fine elegant tannins and a long length. "Pale orangey garnet. Heady, complex nose suggests bonfires overlaying pungent fruit. Two small vineyards planted by Gian Luca to Pelaverga Piccolo. Fermented wild and raised in clay Amphora. Something really rare! Verduno Pelaverga is the smallest DOC in the Barolo region in the far north, where the indigenous variety Pelaverga Piccolo grows. Quite a light colour, pale but brilliant and bright and oh-so fragrant with floral aromas dominated by roses, violets and super pure raspberry - both the berry and the leaves. Vibrant, charming and simply a wonderful, curious drink.

This is simply outstanding wine for the money, soft super-juicy ripe plummy fruit and a long full-flavoured finish.This easy-drinking wine comes from Chile's renowned Valle Central Region, where long hot days are followed by cool nights. This temperature difference ensures the grapes ripen slowly, so they develop maximum flavour.

After fermentation with only natural, wild yeasts the wine is then aged in amphora and large Stockinger barrels. Gian Luca is a bit a dab hand with Pinot Nero, having started producing it prior to turning his hand to Nebbiolo and the rest. Truffley, with the scents of sous bois and woodland earth. Leading to spicy cinnamon and clove and piercing fruit - cherries, redcurrants and pomegranate. Fine, long, pure and vibrant Pinot Nero.

Roddi village 200-250m, 45 to 60y-old vines. Part of this wonderful Barbera d'Alba comes from a vineyard by Gian Luca's house. The wines has so much lovely fruit and richness with such vibrant freshness. It isn't in the least bit 'blockbuster'. No heaviness, no 'make up'. Simply a beautiful drink that delivers sheer class and great pleasure. Not blockbuster, but it is knock-out good.

His Nebbiolo d'Alba is from a single 50 year old vineyard just a few hundred yards from the renowned Barolo Cru site of Monvigliero and is only labelled a Nebbiolo rather than Barolo due to not following the rather exacting rules required to do so! Aged in Austrian oak and clay amphora for around 1 year this is a refined, fresh and perfumed expression of Nebbiolo. The palate is filled with very pure ripe, juicy red and dark fruits with touches of spice and herbal notes, ripe tannins which balance nicely with the fresh acidity on a lovely long finish. Drinking well now though will have the capacity to age and develop for the rest of the decade. Try with red meats, roasted root vegetables, and mature hard cheeses.

Flowers, black raspberries, liquorice, black cherries and plum scents are out in front here. Medium-bodied, silky, fresh, pure and vibrant, as well as refined in texture, the wine offers ample, sweet, ripe, red berries and a touch of cocoa in the finish. Drink from 2024-2040.

The Crepuscule Pinot Noir by Idun in Elgin shows a very light ruby colour with bricky tints to the rim. The delightful nose shows Brambles, rose petals, ripe cherries and strawberries. The palate is wonderfully fresh with red fruits and cherries that are delicate and integrated. Idun is a small, boutique winery run by a French-Danish family originating from Mauritius. They produce excellent varietals which are well-balanced, concentrated, and elegant. They produce mightily impressive, French-inspired wines which you would no doubt pay a lot more for if the grapes were from France.

"I like wines that are direct, with tension, a vertebral column, for both the reds and the whites". Romain Delhome A brilliant, fresh and invigorating Crozes Hermitage Rouge from young Romain. 100% Syrah grown on soils composed mainly of loess and some granite scree mixed with loess at elevation at Gervans and Larnage in the northern sector. Average age of vines is 35 years old. The grapes are gravity fed into the winery after destemming. The grapes are then crushed and left to macerate at a very low temperature for a few days before fermentation takes place in the truncated temperature controlled stainless steel vats. The must macerates for twenty days with very gentle spray overs (like a pump over, but gentler). The juice is then left on its own in tank for seven months. A nose full of red/black fruits. flowers and peppery notes. The palate is fresh, direct and red-fruited. Vibrant and joyful. The finish continues with finesse, with a lovely pepper note. Great tension and balance. It's a natural tasting Crozes full of life and energy. We feel it's one to drink younger and with a slight chill. It's tremedously tasty stuff for Syrah lovers.

From its tempting aromas of ripe cherry and black raspberry to its sweet, dusty tannins and supple texture, this a lush and expansive expression of Napa Valley Merlot. Luxurious flavours of black plum, rhubarb crumble and chocolate-covered raspberry mingle with hints of graphite and clove on the long, vibrant finish.

The vines of this 50-acre estate, close to Listrac, have produced a rich wine in this vintage. With its spice and toast character and ripe berry fruits coming together nicely, the wine will develop well. Its potential is for medium-term aging, meaning it will be ready to drink from 2024

Damien Pagès is the grandson of Marc Pagès (who took on Château la Tour de By in 1966). Château Noaillac is situated 15 kilometres north of Château la Tour de By. Planted to approximately 40% Cabernet Sauvignon, 55% Merlot, 5% Petit Verdot, with an average age of 40 years. Damien is a qualified oenologue and a brilliant winemaker. CWM Ranking - High 2:1 55% Merlot, 40% Cabernet Sauvignon, 5% Petit Verdot. 12 months in french oak. Damien Pages believes this is one of his best vintages. Although it was a small harvest there was enough rain in June and August to allow the old vines produce healthy grapes. Very dark ruby. Ripe cassis nose with some vanilla and spice. Fine and poised palate, all rather silky and fresh yet with plenty of blackcurrant and plum flavour, and ripe tannin. Full bodied and well-balanced.

Mineral and herbaceous aromas on the nose. Red fruits, mint and eucalyptus. A beautiful wine. This has got to be one of the best Malbecs I have tasted in a long time. Juan Pablo Lupa is such a passionate wine maker and the intensity shows in his wines. Rich and elegant, not too heavy, very smooth and silky. Lovely flavours with vanilla coming through on the lvery ong finish.

Some of our favorite Southern Rhônes come from the Rasteau estate of Gilles Ferran, and they always deliver classic Provencal character and concentrated, pleasure-driven personalities. Gilles makes several Côtes du Rhônes (Les Antimagnes, Les Sablieres), a single Roaix (the Syrah-dominated Hautes Granges), two Cairannes (La Boutine and the Le Ventabren), and two Rasteau (La Ponce and the Heritage 1924). We stock most of them at certain times of the year.

A bold and rich Merlot-dominated wine, this is full of black fruits and dark tannins. The wine is dense and opulent, with a good balance of acidity. This property has belonged to the same family for 4 generations, with successive members since 1832. VINEYARD Soil : Deep gravel and sandy-clay. Surface : 9 ha Location : The vineyard, in one piece, is located on the plateau of Pomerol. Southwestern exposure. Average age of vineyards: 35 years Grape Varieties : 6% Cabernet Franc / 9% Cabernet Sauvignon / 80% Merlot / 5% Malbec MAKING PROCESS Manual Harvest. Alcoholic fermentation takes place in vats for 3 to 4 weeks with temperature control. Viniflcation in French oak barrels is also made. After running off, malolactic fermentation is effected in barrels. Aged for 15 months in oak barriques, 20% of which are new each eyar.

Sweet, ripe black fruit nose, then fine rich fruit with plenty of concentration, backed up with some ripe but big tannins and fine acidity. A joyous expression of the vintage that is very well composed, never feeling over-extracted. "

While this claret still has serious layers of tannins, it also delivers considerable ripe black-fruit flavours. The estate in the Figeac sector of Saint-Emilion has produced a powerful wine that is firm and that will age further. Drink from 2025 Deep ruby. Pronounced aromas of black cherry, blackcurrant, black plum, smoke, cedar, mint, clove, violet, capsicum. The palate is dry, high acidity, high tannins, medium alcohol, medium(+) body, pronounced flavours of black fruit, smoke, mint, cedar. The finish is long. This is an outstanding wine.
