Basket Range Wines
From Sholto Broderick at Basket Range Wines: This wine is the evolution of the style my father made using the same fruit; Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot and Petit Verdot. These vines were planted first in the early 1980s and at our new adjacent vineyard in 2001. Growing these varieties and making them into wine, I see the quality of the site and concentration of the fruit. Each block sits at a northern facing aspect on loamy clay over sandstone. The wine shows ripeness of tannin, structure and balance, while having energy and elegance. A reflection of an excellent site for these varieties. This is a Cabernet Sauvignon predominant blend (75%) with Merlot (19%) and Petit Verdot (6%). Each component was fermented in 2000L vats and matured in French barriques for 10 months. The 2022 Estate Cabernet is a pretty special wine for me. The 2021 Estate Cabernet was awarded the "Best Cabernet Trophy" at the Adelaide Hills Wine Show in 2022. I feel the 2022 vintage release is the best job of it I have made so far. Only 230 dozen produced.

Garesio
Produced from their crus, Cerretta (shared with G Conterno whose Barolo sells at £250 a bottle, compared with Garesio's at £85 and Altare) and the young vines of Bricco delle Viole owned by the famous Vajra, whose Barolo from this vineyard sells at £80 a bottle. Gorgeous aromas of wild rose and notes of wild strawberries, which over time evolve with pink pepper. Very good aromatic persistence in the mouth, and velvety tannins and a very persistent finish. It's a tasty treat at this price. Walter Speller on jancisrobinson.com 15 days on the skins, MLF in stainless steel. Aged for 10 months in 5,000-litre Austrian oak casks from Stockinger. "Pale ruby. Strawberry and cherry with savoury saline hints and a suggestion of oak. Sappy cherry fruit with fine tannins and vibrant finish. Distinct and with real personality". 17+/20

Domaine Odyssee
Natural, organic Syrah from a beautiful vineyard in Baixas, Roussillon. Grown with great care and wildly fermented and aged in old oak barrels for 12 months. Lifted, expressive Syrah with pretty floral notes and minerally fresh red and black fruits with some spicy, meaty notes and soft texture but with some matter and with a welcome, silky fruit character. Charming Syrah. The name 'Chimichurri' is a nod to Vincent's beloved Argentina (see below) because of the wines spicy, meaty character. Vincent Carreras has been working in wine industry for 13 years. For nine years he worked for a winery in the south of the Roussillon, Andy Cook’s Mas Cristine and Coume del Mas. Working in the vineyard, cellar and commercial activities - the whole shebang! For four years now he has been employed by a family winery based in Maury - Clos des Vins d'Amour. Who work 25 hectares organically in the west of Roussillon. Mostly in commercial activities, but also working in the cellar. Alongside this, in 2016, Vincent started a new project - Domaine Odyssée. The 3.5ha of vineyards are in Calce and Baixas, in a heart of Roussillon. The sites are small, but unquestionably some of the most beautiful we have seen. Vincent draws on the experiences mentioned above and his time in New Zealand (2011), Argentina (2012) and Bordeaux 2011 to help fully realise what he has there in his exceptional terroir. Vincent works organically, using no weedkillers, no chemical products. He works by hand and with organic fertilizer (he is in conversion right now). He harvests his parcels by himself with friends and family. In the cellar, Vincent’s philosophy is a minimum of intervention "To keep the fruit and the terroir.". The wines are extracted gently with just a little pump over. No filtration, no fining. The only preservative is a little dose of sulphites in very low quantities at bottling "It is important for me the stabilise the wine in respect of the future customers".

Domaine Gerard
100% Gamay (mid-1980s) from galet stone on red-brown clay soils at 350 metres at Givors, 50-100% destemmed, 15-16 day vinification, a little pumping over, then cap punching, aged 1-6 year 228-litre casks 12 months, unfined. A real charmer. Wine to enjoy with friends. Dark red, purple tints; has a strawberry jam aroma. This has a good, firm attack, holds dark red, mulberry fruit with life in it, and a late saline note. There’s crunch in the tannins (this is 50% whole bunch) and it’s very drinkable, shows a touch of late power, is good for la table. Its length sustains on red fruit, raspberry, is good and upbeat.

The Le Mollard leu-dit produces elegant, refined and Burgundian styled wines. Very fine wines indeed. For those that love lifted Syrah with real class and elegance. Bravo Xavier! This 2021 Le Mollard was a standout in the whole of this difficult vintage after our extensive tastings in January 2024. Outsclassing Xavier's La Landonne and many other producers top wines of the vintage also. A sleeper. With the 2019 and 2020 vintages we have started to build an enthusiatic following. A tiny allocation as always. A couple of magnums also, if you are quick. The very best vigneron make beautiful wines, whatever the vintage. One of our favourite bottles from Xavier. An outsatnding wine. John Livinstone-Learmonth on Drink Rhone: 97% Syrah (1982-85), 3-5% Viognier from gneiss soils on Mollard, 20-33% destemmed, 2-3 day cool maceration at 10-12°C, 17-18 day vinification at up to 25°-26°C, light cap punchings only, aged 33% new, 50% 4-year 228-litre casks (4 casks altogether) 24 months, unfined, unfiltered, 1,200 bottles. 2021 ****(*) From cask "....steady red, quite dark. The nose gives a neat channel of red fruits, raspberry with dried herbs, ash smoke. The palate opens tenderly, with a soft richness, has Pinot links, continues with a stylish, sure hand. The tannins are neatly tucked in. This is promising for an elegant, spherical, interesting Rôtie, has a perfumed touch with terroir notes, while the aftertaste of violets is sympa. It hits the line well, with style in the fruit. Serve in a large glass, off we go. From 2027 until 2046-48. Tasted Feb 2023",

Natural, organic Grenache from a beautiful vineyard in Baixas, Roussillon blended 50/50 with Fer Servadou from Aveyron in central France! The Fer Servadou is from Vincent's friends at Coultades du Coustoubi. The '78' moniker comes from both postcodes being added together - 66 for Roussillon and 12 for Aveyron. The blend makes for deep fruit, delicious, savoury and wholesome tannins in a really interesting, delightful wine. Vincent Carreras has been working in wine industry for 13 years. For nine years he worked for a winery in the south of the Roussillon, Andy Cook’s Mas Cristine and Coume del Mas. Working in the vineyard, cellar and commercial activities - the whole shebang! Domaine Gerard
Xavier Gerard is one of the most exciting young winemakers working in the Northern Rhône. He is a young grower who took over his family's small domaine in earnest in 2012 and in no time has turned out incredibly elegant and traditionally made Syrahs and Viogniers.

The Saumur Champigny appellation covers red wines made in the 8 communes closest to Saumur. The name Champigny supposedly derives from the Latin campus igni (field of fire), named for the area’s exceptionally warm microclimate. 100% Cabernet Franc, this Saumur Champigny sees no oak giving a light, fresh style with abundant red cherry fruit. This is from the same producer as our superb Crémant.

Borja Perez Viticultor
Very much a product of its volcanic, maritime terroir, this has really super freshness and minerality, allied with bright cherry fruit, blood orange notes, dried herbs and white pepper. Medium-bodied with nice grip and a savoury smack on the finish (from Decanter). Borja Perez is a rising star of the Canary Island wine scene. A former racing car mechanic, Borja inherited the family business in 2011 and decided to bottle his own wine rather than sell off the fruit. He set about refocusing on local varieties like Listan Blanco, Listan Negro, Marmajuelo, Vijariego Negro and Baboso Negro by restoring old ungrafted vineyards back to full health and establishing new sites – work he is still engaged in today. In that pursuit, Borja has developed a reputation as one of the best viticulturists in the Canaries.

A perennial CWM fave – a ready to wear fine wine at a fine price. Smells of leaf tea and autumn forest - what more could you want? Bargain. Some noted reviewers on previous vintages: Jancis Robinson OBE MW "Rich fruit plus development and real drive and tertiary aromas without a trace of new oak or alcohol! Good Value" Parker “More rustic and powerful than Tondonia. Easily Gran Reserva standard. Tertiary and developed, super-classy.” Suckling "rich and silky...plums, cedar and autumn leaves"

Chêne Bleu
Warm ruby colour, bright with hints of mahogany. Fresh red fruits and notes of dried flowers on the nose and a smooth, fresh and full-bodied palate with fine and silky tannins. Long and aromatic. A vibrant easy-drinking Grenache-Syrah blend, named after the real-life lovechild of famed medieval lovers Abélard & Héloïse. Younger in age and spirit than its complex, collectible 'parents', it aims to deliver fresh fruit but also nice spice, concentration and length.

Lanzerac
The 2020 Pinotage boasts an excellent deep colour, ripe berries and plums, smoky eucalyptus and gentle leather on the nose. Intensely ripe brambles and brioche with a good mouth-feel and lingering aftertaste. Lovely. And will improve. Great value for money. Nobody's been bottling Pinotage longer than Lanzerac and this wine shows a wealth of experience with this proudly South African variety. With 5 to 10 years' maturation this wine will start to acquire the velvet density and luxurious chocolate and caramel flavours of its very early Lanzerac predecessors. A full-bodied, complex wine with a beautiful balance between fruit and wood showcasing a good tannin structure that will allow it to age extremely well.

Grattamacco
Taut deep and fresh dark and red fruits intermingle with coffee, dried herb, graphite and sweet violet flowers. Lacy tannins support an overall delicious sun-kissed wine that stops short of excess. In fact, it is really rather drinkable already. It is a rare Super Tuscan that is built primarily around freshness. 65% Cabernet Sauvignon, 20% Merlot and 15% Sangiovese, the wine spent 18 months in 30% new French oak. Justerini & Brooks.
