Storm Wines
Husband and wife team (their name is Storm!) farming two small parcels with exceptional soils in the superb "Heaven on Earth" region. Expressive, admirable, lovable Pinot and Chardonnay from probably South Africa's most exciting wine region and a world-class winery. Small production, rare wines, worth cellaring. All the expert reviews are positive, this really is a top notch, world-class estate on epic form. Parker 94+ "The 2021 Ignis Pinot Noir comes from a vineyard that has granite and clay soil, offering a firmer nose and a medium ruby color that's slightly darker than the Vrede Pinot Noir. It displays elegant dark cherry notes with black raspberry and rose as notions of orange rind and potpourri sway with red tea aromas. Medium-bodied, the Pinot Noir grows on the palate and displays a firm tannic edge with balanced energetic acidity. Give it another year in the bottle, and it will have no problems aging until its 15th birthday." jancisrobinson.com 17+/20 "Yields were 0.66 kg/vine. 11 months in 228-litre French oak barrels, 24% new. TA 5.7 g/l, pH 3.5, RS 2.7 g/l. 7,308 bottles produced. More tentative on the nose than the 2021 Vrede, but, like their other 2021 Pinots, beautifully floral: orange blossom, Turkish delight. More assertive on the palate, however. Smoky, toasty, very intentional. Goji berries. Very confident. The biggest tannins of the three 2021s. Much more showy! Burlesque drama and flair. (TC)"

Kanakaris
Deep ruby colour with dark red hues. The nose has aromas of blackberry, coffee, clove and wild herbs. The palate is layered, with velvety tannins, fresh acidity and a persistent finish. Aigialeia, in the northwestern Peloponnese, is among Greece’s most distinctive wine-growing regions. Set against the rugged terrain of the Panachaiko mountains, the area’s high elevations, northern exposure, steep, sloping vineyards and proximity to the Corinthian Gulf help moderate high temperatures, creating a growing environment unlike anything else in the Peloponnese. It is here that Michalis Kanakaris founded his eponymous winery in 1979, focusing on indigenous varieties Roditis, Sideritis and Mavro Kalavrytino grown on Aigialeia’s sandy, red/white clay soils. Today, Kanakaris is run by the third generation of Michalis’ family, with brothers Stefanos and Michalis taking over the reins in 2009. Capturing a sense of place is at the core of Kanakaris’ winemaking ethos. Stefanos and Michalis work closely with like-minded growers, farming 55 hectares of vines planted between 450 and 1150 metres above sea level. These vineyards, dotted with olive groves and citrus trees, are situated on either side of the valleys and gorges of the five rivers of the Peloponnese, which flow down from the mountains to the Corinthian Gulf. While maintaining their grandfather's original focus on Roditis, Sideritis and Mavro Kalavrytino, the brothers have also added Malagouzia, Moschofilero and Agiorgitiko to their remit, alongside the international varieties Merlot and Syrah. All Kanakaris’ fruit is hand-harvested and vinified in their recently renovated modern winery, equipped with a range of stainless-steel tanks to capture the aromatics of Greece’s indigenous varieties and Aigialeia’s vineyards.

Crystallum
The signature aromatics of wild strawberry, black cherry and sweet Indian spices are all in place as well as pomegranate, red plum and cocoa. A tense and structured palate speaks to the 60% whole bunches used in fermentation, with the tannins showing a pine-like freshness. With a generosity of fruit and a particularly upright focus this wine will age into 2035.

Domaine Gayda
‘La Minuette’ blended rosé comes from La Livinière limestone terroir. Its pale colour and floral bouquet represent the ‘Minuette’ variety of rose planted in Kenya by Tim Ford in 1982, during his 25 years of rose production in Africa. A nod to both the past and the future, ‘La Minuette’ exemplifies estate values of tradition and modernity. Mourvèdre, Syrah, Grenache and Cinsault from outstanding organic Minervois La Livinière vineyards. A lychee-tinged colour evokes a very Provençal style. On the nose, finesse and elegance dominate, offering a refined aromatic bouquet. Notes of fresh grapefruit and tart raspberries blend harmoniously with vine peach, while cherry blossom adds a delicate floral touch. On the palate, the wine is gourmand, with flavours of strawberry and raspberry supported by fresh notes of clementine and bergamot zest. The texture is crisp and tangy, balanced by a light minerality on the finish. Really outstanding for the cash.

Chateau Margaux
The 1995 has continued to flesh out, developing into one of the great classics made under the Mentzelopoulos regime. The color is opaque ruby/purple. The nose offers aromas of licorice and sweet smoky new oak intermixed with jammy black fruits, licorice, and minerals. The wine is medium to full-bodied, with extraordinary richness, fabulous equilibrium, and hefty tannin in the finish. In spite of its large size and youthfulness, this wine is user-friendly and accessible. This is a thrilling Margaux that will always be softer and more evolved than its broader-shouldered sibling, the 1996. How fascinating it will be to follow the evolution of both of these vintages over the next half century.

Chateau Pavie-Macquin
93/100 Neal Martin "The 2006 Château Pavie Macquin has a ripe, sensual bouquet with copious kirsch and blueberry scents, fine tension and poise, a faint whiff of boot polish in the background. The palate is very elegant on the entry, pure and supple in the mouth, succulent with vivid black cherry and dark plum notes. It is that keen line of acidity cutting through the fruit that takes this Saint Emilion to a higher level and it comes highly recommended."

Chateau Calon Segur
18.5/20 Jancis Robinson "Rich, deep, glowing purplish crimson. Pungent and really interesting and layered on the nose already. Creamy texture and massive energy. Lots of tannin but all beautifully balanced. This is seriously intriguing rather than just ticking boxes. Glows on the end. Old-vine influence – really gives layers and intrigue. Sweetness of tannin. But the freshness really lifts it."

Domaine Danjou-Banessy
Energy is a word used a lot by the finest Roussillon growers. We don't think there has been a finer example than this extraordinary wine from the freres Danjou. The 2019 is more 'Cote-Rotie' than the 'Crozes like' 2018. A thrilling wine.

Dom Rapet Pere & Fils
In a green and peaceful valley, between Côte de Nuits and Côte de Beaune, the Pernand-Vergelesses vineyard nestles at the foot of the Corton hill. The reds are charming and smooth. Their aromas are fresh (black and red currant) subsequently developing notes of undergrowth. The Pernand can be served after 3 years. Serve at around 15°C. It goes well with beef tenderloin, veal sauté, lamb shoulder "laquée, duck fricassée façon coq, and, to round off the meal, a selection of delicious cheeses.

Chateau Le Boscq
CWM Ranking: First Class Located in the northern part of St Estephe, and replanted with Cabernet Sauvignon rather than Merlot, particularly on the flat gravels at the peak of the hill. Dark milk chocolate. Evident oak. Creamy secondary characters on the palate. Quite forward. Rich and chewy dark fruits. Soft and luscious, even on the tannin, but still has a future to develop. Enjoyable freshness on the finish.

Espinos y Cardos
This is simply outstanding wine for the money, soft super-juicy ripe plummy fruit and a long full-flavoured finish. This easy-drinking wine comes from Chile's renowned Valle Central Region, where long hot days are followed by cool nights. This temperature difference ensures the grapes ripen slowly, so they develop maximum flavour.
