Chateau Des Tours
Produced exclusively from Gamay grapes harvested from vines around 45 years old, and the vineyards are situated in a natural amphitheatre around the Château. It's matured in large oak vats before bottling, and the fruity, floral wine is an excellent pairing with cheese. The grapes are hand picked, sorted and de-stemmed before being put into temperature controlled stainless steel vats for a long (2-3 week) maceration period during which the chapeau de marc -the cap of the grape skins- is regularly pushed down into the juice (pigeage), to enhance the aromatics, colour and body of the finished wine. After pneumatic pressing, the malolactic fermentation takes place gently and slowly throughout the winter after which the wine is bottled in the spring. The wines are always aged for several months at the chateau before release.

Smells like LUXURY! Super-low yield Barbera from the best sunny spots, some serious winemaking and a lick of posh new oak. What a beauty. What a bargain. Dark, silky, last time I had a Barbera this rich and lush was in California, and it cost 3 tines as much! Nizza is a new top-end DOCG created to separate the best plots of Barbera - great success.

Garesio
Produced from their crus, Cerretta (shared with G Conterno whose Barolo sells at £250 a bottle, compared with Garesio's at £85 and Altare) and the young vines of Bricco delle Viole owned by the famous Vajra, whose Barolo from this vineyard sells at £80 a bottle. Gorgeous aromas of wild rose and notes of wild strawberries, which over time evolve with pink pepper. Very good aromatic persistence in the mouth, and velvety tannins and a very persistent finish. It's a tasty treat at this price. Walter Speller on jancisrobinson.com 15 days on the skins, MLF in stainless steel. Aged for 10 months in 5,000-litre Austrian oak casks from Stockinger. "Pale ruby. Strawberry and cherry with savoury saline hints and a suggestion of oak. Sappy cherry fruit with fine tannins and vibrant finish. Distinct and with real personality". 17+/20

Moulin de la Gardette
The Gigondas Tradition is a blend of 80% Grenache, 10% Cinsault and 10% Mourvèdre. 10% is raised in used Burgundian barrels but the majority of the wine has been both fermented and matured in concrete, traditionally in other words. Jean-Baptiste Meunier took over this ancient family estate (dating from 1670) in 1988 and has quietly brought it to its current size of 9 hectares, with some of the Grenache vines now having achieved centurion status. Organic by inclination and with the occasional biodynamic impulse, Jean-Baptiste makes some of the best Gigondas that is available today.

Sottano
This is the estate's entry level Malbec and it is absolutely delicious. Ripe fruit without being jammy, there is a lots of black cherry and plum aroma with a touch of spice. Easy-going palate with mouth-filling fruit, elegant tannins and velvety mouthfeel. Very easy to drink but satisfying with BBQ or steak. Bodega Sottano was founded in 1890 by Mr. Fioravante Sottano who settled in Mendoza after moving from Italy. Today the estate is a byword for quality, modern Mendoza wines that express a delicious sense of place.

Chateau Caronne Ste. Gemme
Another classic vintage for Caronne Ste Gemme, but with some lovely rich ripe fruit. Already a perfumed wine, this is generous and likely to be rich while also balanced. Blackberry fruit and fine acidity balance the structure. There is good aging potential here

Lanzerac
The 2020 Pinotage boasts an excellent deep colour, ripe berries and plums, smoky eucalyptus and gentle leather on the nose. Intensely ripe brambles and brioche with a good mouth-feel and lingering aftertaste. Lovely. And will improve. Great value for money. Nobody's been bottling Pinotage longer than Lanzerac and this wine shows a wealth of experience with this proudly South African variety. With 5 to 10 years' maturation this wine will start to acquire the velvet density and luxurious chocolate and caramel flavours of its very early Lanzerac predecessors. A full-bodied, complex wine with a beautiful balance between fruit and wood showcasing a good tannin structure that will allow it to age extremely well.

Vincent Girardin
Les Gravières premier cru is on Santenay's border with Chassagne-Montrachet. It gets a bit more sun than most of the commune, and is one of the best Santenay vineyards, for both reds and whites. While the excellent Vincent Girardin is better known for whites, this Pinot is nonetheless reliable, and good value for Burgundy in this particularly good vintage. Plenty of red berry fruit, with earth and subtle spice. It is tangy and vibrant, still youthful. Soft and with lots of savoury interest.

Domaine du Landreau
The Saumur Champigny appellation covers red wines made in the 8 communes closest to Saumur. The name Champigny supposedly derives from the Latin campus igni (field of fire), named for the area’s exceptionally warm microclimate. 100% Cabernet Franc, this Saumur Champigny sees no oak giving a light, fresh style with abundant red cherry fruit. This is from the same producer as our superb Crémant.

Espinos y Cardos
This is simply outstanding wine for the money, soft super-juicy ripe plummy fruit and a long full-flavoured finish. This easy-drinking wine comes from Chile's renowned Valle Central Region, where long hot days are followed by cool nights. This temperature difference ensures the grapes ripen slowly, so they develop maximum flavour.

Ricossa
A junior version of Barolo and Barbaresco: priced accordingly, and a much better bet than lower-end versions of those greats. Langhe Nebbiolo occupies an interesting legal status in that it is the only appellation available for top Barolo and Barbaresco to downgrade or declassify their wines, therefore offcuts and lesser batches end up in their Langhe wine at a cheaper price. This example is classic: pale, leathery, dried fruits and flowers, a pinot-like delicacy and savoury layering. Charming dinner wine, let it breathe for an hour or so before drinking.

Benjamin Leroux
A well-woven tapestry from across the Côte d’Or, with contributions which include Vosne-Romanée, Pommard, Volnay and Monthélie, and some seasoning from Dames Huguettes in the Hautes-Côtes de Nuits. It’s rounded, ripe, pure and velvety. One-third of the volume is aged in barrel and SO2 levels are kept to a minimum, enhancing the creamy finish.

Navajas
A small family-run bodega near the village of Navarrete, in the heart of Rioja D.O.C., making wines of great integrity and some finesse. It was founded in 1918 and is today run by Antonio Navajas and his wife. This is a big favourite of many of our customers and on a 'value for money' basis it is not hard to understand why.

Rivetto
Only 24 bottles available from this small and prestigious vineyard in 2018. Briccolina is the pioneer vineyard for Rivetto's biodynamic approach, introduced in 2015. It is the only Barolo Cru granted the Demeter certification. It is a vineyard-garden, a poly-culture entirely worked by hand. Situated in Serralunga d’Alba at 340 meters with west/south-west exposure. The soil is clay-limestone, with an abundant presence of marl at a depth of two meters. Soil with sub-alkaline reaction. Scaled selection, carried out three times during the 45 days before the grape harvest. Manually harvested as late as possible. Stalk and grape seeds removal/pressing and maceration for sixty days, half of which with submerged-cap and the other half with a floating cap. No controlling of temperature during the fermentation that occurs naturally on the wild yeasts of this special garden in large, open-topped wooden vats. Malolactic completed. Aged in 15-hl oak barrels for 36 months, then aged in bottle for a further 16 months before release. Sometimes the bottles are held back a further five years. "This Barolo opens with darker fruit notes of black cherry and warmed raspberry. Wild herbs, dried leaf and cedar notes waft from the glass as it opens. The palate is brooding with roasted wild berries, black tea and savory spices giving way to an earthy finish and fine and firm tannins. Drink 2028 - 2045". Jeff Porter in Wine Enthusiast 94/100

Chateau Beau Site
Exhibiting aromas of minty berries, spices and licorice, the 2021 Beau Site is a medium-bodied, lively and nicely balanced wine. It derives from a gravel "croupe" near Calon-Ségur. "Beau-Site" means beautiful site and lies just behind Grand Cru Château Calon-Segur on one of Medoc's highest points with fantastic views over the river Gironde. It was originally classified as a Cru Bourgeois Superieur in 1932 but in 1966 Beau Site was reclassified as a Cru Grand Bourgeois Exceptionnel. The Castéja family, who also own Château Batailley and Château Trotte Vieille, bought the château in 1955. The château has nearly 100 hectares of vines with an average age of 35 years. Beau-Site's 18th century underground cellar is one of the oldest in the Médoc and presents the perfect maturing conditions for a wine that is vinified with the same care and technique as a Grand Cru Classé. Beau-Site's wine is full of power and temperament, a typical Saint-Estèphe with tannins allowing for keeping this wine for some years.
