La Reserve Saint Dominique - Eric Bonnet
We've found another Syrah-led, Southern Rhone wine that astounds with its interest and punches way above its price tag. From Drink Rhone: 80% Syrah (1982-1990s-1997), 20-25% Grenache (1960s-1985-86) from 3 hectares on very stony clay-limestone soils on lightly north facing slope on Bois Lauzon with Champovin (Orange). Destemmed, 4 week steel vat vinification at up to 28°C, daily pumping overs, cap punching, half the Syrah aged new (33%)-4 year 600-litre oak casks, Grenache & half the Syrah vat raised 12 months. Certified organic wine, **** for the 2022 from John Livingstone-Learnmonth on Drink Rhone "Dark red; the nose has an earthy intensity, a brewed blue and black fruits air. The palate carries appealing, gourmand dark berry fruits, prune flavouring, extends into a spiced corridor late on, notes of tea leaves and mineral there. It gives a well filled Côtes that lasts well, digs in, has interest". From mid-2024. to 2030-31. Tasted Oct 2023

Domaine Danjou-Banessy
Energy is a word used a lot by the finest Roussillon growers. We don't think there has been a finer example than this extraordinary wine from the freres Danjou. The 2020 is more 'Cote-Rotie' than the 'Crozes like' 2018. A thrilling wine.

100% Carignan from 80 year old vines. Complex floral aromas. On the palate the fruits, such as raspberry and morello cherry, are crunchy and fresh. There is also a very strong stony/mineral feeling. The finish is long and pure. A vibrant wine.

4 Monos Viticultores
4 Monos are at the forefront of The New Spain, a renaissance of younger winemakers stirring the Spanish wine pot; the punks of the wine world. Many of these unconventional producers, like 4 Monos, are making use of soil types, vinifying vineyards separately, and moving away from the restrictions of the DO—the Denominación de Origen. Many have gone the extent to reawaken ancient varieties, finding them growing in the wild or even replanting. Every region in Spain makes wine, and every region has the capacity to create great wine.

A cherry-packed joy. Lovely to let the sun shine on Sangiovese of Chianti fame, bringing plump ripe fruit with the classic bite. Multi-award winning grower. Great fun for the price Previous International Wine Challenge Abbruzzo Trophy and Gold Medal winner "Vibrant red fruit, crushed morello cherries with herbal undertones; raspberry vanilla oak with spice, lively acidity and firm tannins. Sopra Sasso
Classic Valpolicella grapes of Corvina, Corvinone, Rondinella made using the ancient part-dried grape technique to achieve fuller body and smoother tannins. Lush like Amarone but bright, vital and snappy like Valpolicella, indeed it has that classic capsicum brightness. Heavy embossed bottles, looks great. Metro Magazine Top 50 Wines of 2019. Cave de Fleurie
Morgon offers a fuller expression of Beaujolais and takes on Pinot Noir-like maturity with a few years bottle age. A palate of juicy red fruit is introduced with floral aromas on the nose of rose and peony with flecks of cracked black peppercorns. The mouthfeel is fleshy with velvety tannins. Try with barbequed sausages or a fruity Moroccan tagine.

Thistledown
An absolutely pitch-perfect old vine Grenache from McLaren Vale from the top team at Thistledown. Beautiful, lifted and perfumed fruit with some high-toned herbal notes from the inclusion of 30% whole-bunch. On the palate this little Devil shows utter, glorious drinkability that comes from serious, but hands off - with nothing forced - top, top winemaking. The wine has the characteristic McLaren Vale perfume and spice with a beguiling texture and perfume that unfolds, layer by layer. This delicately hued red is very elegant with vibrant wild strawberry, spice and silky texture. Outstanding. In 2022 this cuvee is really not too far away from the glorious single site offerings that this outstanding estate produce year on year from some of the greatest old vine Grenache sites in the Vale. An utter bargain and a dream of a drink. 10/10. Matthew Jukes Best 100 Australian Wines Report 'This year, the wine that stood out for me was one of the less expensive wines in his portfolio, but I wouldn’t have known this unless a price tag was stuck on the bottle....I happen to think 2022 Thorny Devil is the finest value red wine Giles has made since he set out on his odyssey some 13 years ago".

25% each of Carignan, Grenache, Mourvèdre and Syrah. 100% destemmed, vinification in stainless steel then ageing mostly in concrete tank with <5% in 228-litre used (1 to 5 wines) barrique. In conversion to organic. "Tasted blind. Super-expressive nose with cassis, crushed mulberry and liquorice notes. Medium-bodied with vibrant pastille fruit, a dense mid palate with firm chewy and textured tannins. The palate is ripe and bursting with energy and fruit - pure, engaging and with a delicious, long, layered finish". 16.5/20 jancisrobinson.com Date tasted 10 Oct 2023 "Fresh and brambly with some bay leaf notes. Juicy, rounded, fruity with juicy tannins. The acidity is quite low, but it has a feeling of herbal freshness. Feels refreshingly low in alcohol. Garesio
For price to quality ratio, this is an astonishing bottling, being produced from the perimeter rows of their two cru vineyards, Cerretta and Gianetto. Gorgeous, almost weightless nose of violets, plums, pot pourri and dried mushrooms. It floats across the palate, with stunning length fine-boned tannins. These are Barolo for the ages. These are like fine, restrained Burgundies, that at first nosing and taste, you could miss, but give them the time they need, and they are glorious, with the classical Serralunga terroir nose of roses and minerals. Sharing vineyards with Giacomo Conterno and Altare, their cellar is located between their two cru sites, Ceretta and Gianetto. They farm organically, but as the sites both border non-organic neighbouring vineyards, they do not declare it. All wines are vinifed and aged in the same way so as to best express their identity and terroir. Walter Speller on jancisrobinson.com Serralunga d’Alba. A relative newcomer, founded in 2013. The grapes came from the Gianetto and Cerretta crus. A single-vineyard Gianetto will be released with the 2016 vintage. "Maturing ruby with orange tinges. A touch reduced with brooding minerality underneath. Peppery cherry fruit on the nose with a suggestion of new leather. Integrated, lively acidity on the palate that is filled to the brim with compact cherry fruit of enormous length but never out of kilter. Concentrated and packed with muscular tannins. Can be approached now". 17+/20

Baudron Vineyard & Cellar
An excellent example of the high-quality viticulture of Maipú, Mendoza, this Baudrón Hormiga Negra Malbec comes from one of the most fascinating wine regions in the world. Located to the east of the Andes, Maipú is a privileged terroir with a desert climate ideal for growing grapes. The marked temperature variations between day and night, together with the well-drained, mineral-rich soils, give the wines a unique concentration and complexity. Made from 100% Malbec grapes, this vine is known for its ability to produce deep, full-bodied wines with intense aromas and a robust tannic structure. After the grapes are crushed and destemmed, the must undergoes controlled fermentation at temperatures between 25º and 29ºC, which preserves and enhances the fruity aromas without compromising the structure. Periodic pumping over during fermentation ensures optimal extraction of polyphenols and tannins, contributing to the smoothness and complexity of the wine. The result is a dark red wine with ruby highlights. The nose reveals a complex bouquet of red fruits, such as cherries and currants, with delicate notes of spices and vanilla. In the mouth, it is soft and velvety, with well-integrated tannins and a balanced acidity that supports the wine's freshness and structure. Although it is rich and structured, it maintains a balance that makes it enjoyable even when young. Perfect with cold cuts and red meat dishes, it is a wine that enhances rich and intense flavours. Its fruity notes and velvety structure go well with the fattiness of cured meats and red meats.

Ricossa
Piedmont's 'other' Nebbiolo. Silkier than Barolo and easier to approach when young, Barbaresco delivers a Pinot-like svelte charm, less tarry and tannin than Barolo "like being kicked in the face by a ballerina." Also much less expensive - quite the hidden gem as this is a tiny DOCG, the smallest of the Alba cluster. Our charming Ricossa Barberesco is all wild strawberry and resolved tannin, a joy with rare meat.

R. López de Heredia Viña Tondonia
The wine is made from three quarters Tempranillo with the balance shared evenly between Garnacha, Graciano and Mazuelo. It has been aged for 6 years in American oak, with racking taking place twice every year. A traditional Rioja par excellence, the 2001, marries fruit and spice, charcuterie, vanillin and earthy richness; a cornucopia of quality in other words and one which will continue to get better and better.

Chateau Vincens
A perenial favourite with staff, customers, restaurants and colleges. Simply a great value classic South West wine from Cahors, France. Beautifully sweet cherry pie nose, with oak, flowers, spices, minerals and savoury beetroot notes. Wonderfully fine tannins, great concentration of ripe plums and dried fruits, and a very long finish. Displays real elegance and power. "Spicy aromas offering rich berry fruits give this dense, luxurious wine its structure and concentration. It is smoky, balancing acidity against blackberry flavors. The wine will age and will be ready to drink from 2025". 91/100 Roger Voss in Wine Enthusiast Magazine And also a wonderfully French tasting note in Le Guide Hachette des Vins 2023 "A very expressive Malbec-Merlot duo, open without reserve on very ripe black fruits, supported by a discreet and elegant woodiness. The palate is ample, generous, powerful in hardness, with a nice return of fruit and a long, fresh finish. A most harmonious Cahors which will be appreciated both young and weathered by time".

La Loyane
Chocolate with pretty notes of cherry and blackberry jam! Very round in the mouth, the length develops intensely. A wine with an assertive, gourmet and round character, centered on red fruits and spices, supported by a beautiful tannic frame. Domaine La Lôyane was voted Winemaker of the Year in 2018 by the Guide Hachette, France's wine bible. La Lôyane refers to the place where the estate is built, a place formerly occupied by wolves! The estate, founded in 1994, is located in the south of the Rhône Valley, near Avignon in the Lirac cru. The Dubois family has been cultivating its 20 hectares of vines there for 4 generations! And the last, with Romain Dubois, has cnverted the estate to organic farming. An extremely precise estate, which is constantly moving upmarket and producing wines from vines that are sometimes more than a century old!
