Lionel Comelade produces this stunning wine from ancient vine Macabeu and Grenache Gris grown on amazing black and white schist soil vineyards between Estagel and Latour de France in the Roussillon. Both white grapes were harvested later in the season in 1992 with high sugar levels. The grapes were partially fermented in concrete vats and then neutral brandy was added to stop fermentation and keep natural sweetness in the wine. Then the wine was passed to second use oak barrels and left in the cellar for 34 years before bottling (to order). No ‘topping up’ of the barrels occurred in the 34 years. The wine is tremendous, possibly surpassing the 1988. It is ‘ambre’ in colour. A bright, wild nose with orange rind, orange oil and warm spices. The palate is thrilling with great complexity and depth with thrilling, wild acidity which really charms. Astonishing and quite unique. The wine is one of the best value fortified wines in the world. 34 years of age, so interesting and delicious. A steal at this price. please note: The photo is of a different vintage.

Francois Xavier AKA 'FX'. FX worked with Tom Lubbe at Domaine Matassa for five years. He spent a further year with Domaine Danjou-Banessy. After such time this local lad set up in Espira to make his own wholly exciting wines which we are introducing the UK for the first time. Dom. des Lampyres Luminescence 2023 Vin de France 11% alc Skin macération Muscat Petit Grain 70% (on terroir clay limestone) and 30% Muscat d’Alexandrie (terroir clay) . The two parcels were fermented separately with their wild, indigenous yeasts. There was 15 days skin maceration whole bunch for the Muscat a Petit Grain and 20 days whole bunch for the Muscat d’Alexandrie. The Muscat a Petit Grain was aged in cuve for nine months and the Muscat d’Alexandrie was aged for seven months in 10hl Amphora. Juices blended one month before bottling. 2g/hl sulphites added prior to bottling. One of the finest maceration wines of the Roussillon. The 2022 slightly lusher than the 2021. Absolutely awesome wine.

Outstanding Chianti Classico Gran Selezione from the cooler north west of Chianti. Grown on soils very similar to Felsina's vineyards in Berardenga, this cooler terroir in Argiano helps produce a wine of great energy, elegance and inherent harmony. La Vigna di San Martino ad Argiano is the personal project of Giampaolo Chiettini. Giampaolo spent a good number of years working alongside Paolo di Marchi at Isole e Olena where he fell deeply in love with Sangiovese and honed his skills and became a very highly regarded winemaker of the region. Antinori and Ca' del Bosco have also used Giampaolo's services over the years. He still consults and makes wine for the outstanding Castagnoli and brilliant newcomers Ejamu amongst others. Antonio Galloni July 2025 "The 2022 Chianti Classico Gran Selezione is laced with intensely spiced dark cherry, leather, menthol, licorice, dried herbs and incense. It's another powerhouse from this small estate in Barberino. I don't see the Gran Selezione as meaningfully more complex than the Riserva, but it is darker and more powerful in style, with a bit more of a slightly oxidative character as well". Only 24 bottles available from this small and prestigious vineyard in 2018. Briccolina is the pioneer vineyard for Rivetto's biodynamic approach, introduced in 2015. It is the only Barolo Cru granted the Demeter certification. It is a vineyard-garden, a poly-culture entirely worked by hand. Situated in Serralunga d’Alba at 340 meters with west/south-west exposure. The soil is clay-limestone, with an abundant presence of marl at a depth of two meters. Soil with sub-alkaline reaction. Scaled selection, carried out three times during the 45 days before the grape harvest. Manually harvested as late as possible. Stalk and grape seeds removal/pressing and maceration for sixty days, half of which with submerged-cap and the other half with a floating cap. No controlling of temperature during the fermentation that occurs naturally on the wild yeasts of this special garden in large, open-topped wooden vats. Malolactic completed. Aged in 15-hl oak barrels for 36 months, then aged in bottle for a further 16 months before release. Sometimes the bottles are held back a further five years. "This Barolo opens with darker fruit notes of black cherry and warmed raspberry. Wild herbs, dried leaf and cedar notes waft from the glass as it opens. The palate is brooding with roasted wild berries, black tea and savory spices giving way to an earthy finish and fine and firm tannins. Drink 2028 - 2045". Jeff Porter in Wine Enthusiast 94/100

The 2022 Clos de la Roche Grand Cru on this encounter was so pure and suave that one might have mistaken it for the Clos Saint-Denis. Offering up aromas of raspberries, cherries, sweet spices, orange zest and peony, it's full-bodied, supple and seamless, with a deep core of fruit, sweet, powdery tannins and a long, sapid finish. There is more underlying muscle and tannin here, however, and I would be surprised to see that assert itself a little more obviously in bottle. Harvest at Domaine Dujac began on August 29. At the time, Jeremy Seysses thought of the vintage as potentially reminiscent of 2018—tasting the wines this winter, he feels that they're more delicate, while also admitting that he was even more cautious about extraction in 2022. Whatever the apposite analogy, the result is clear: a superb portfolio of beautifully balanced wines that unite charm and density. Readers, of course, will be familiar with the outlines of the Dujac approach to producing red Burgundy: organic farming, fermentation with a predominance of whole clusters and élevage in barrels largely sourced from Tonnellerie Rémond. None of that seems to have changed in 2022, despite a new winery where stainless steel vats have replaced concrete. The wines retain, nay exalt in, their distinctive identity.

Le Due Porte is 540 metres above sea level. Budbreak is later here, often avoiding issues with late frosts and snow. Ripening is slow and constant. The soil profile preserves humidity; important when making a wine such as Brunello that does not contemplate irrigation. Alberese has high levels of calcium carbonate which favors acidity, aided and abetted by the slower ripening and later harvest due to the exposition and altitude. We generally pick Le Due Porte as much as two weeks after our vineyards in Castelnuovo dell’Abate and are often amongst the last in Montalcino to harvest. The grapes develop organoleptic complexity from that extra hang-time and from the pronounced difference between day and night temperatures. In fact the altitude guarantees extreme thermal excursion even in hotter years which is wonderful for aromatic development. Over the last two decades we have seen, year after year, a pronounced character emerge in the fruit from this vineyard, a wine that maintains the typical structure of a Brunello vecchio stampo and epitomises finesse and elegance."

Macán Clásico is a wine firmly rooted in the Sonsierra in La Rioja. Drawing its character from the slopes of the Sierra de Cantabria, the wine has inherent freshness, fruitiness, and vibrancy. The Macán Clásico is vinified in stainless-steel tanks to maximise fruit purity. The winemaking team was attentive to integrating the oak seamlessly during the subsequent maturation. The wine is aged for10 months in barrels (new and second-use French extra-fine grained oak). Maturation is completed with 18 months in bottle before release. The Vintage. Spring was mild with ideal flowering. A hailstorm on 16 June affected 7 hectares. Harvest occurred in stable weather 19thSeptember to 7th October.

Syrah 50% from Mercurol (1970s) & 50% from Larnage (early 2000s), destemmed, 21-25 day concrete vat vinification at 26°C, pumping overs, 2 x part vat empting/refillings, concrete vat raised until March, then raised 1-2 year 600-litre oak casks another 9-10 months, unfined, filtered, 2,000 bottles made. "This is from loess soils in Larnage and granitic soils in Erôme, aged 6 months in concrete and 1 year in barrel. Fresh and vivid with nice brightness to the juicy red fruits. An impressive La Louvière, stands out from recent vintages at this estate."

Au Bon Climat’s "Hildegard" is a recreation of the original varietal planting of the Corton Charlemagne vineyard in 800 A.D. Chardonnay was not part of the mix at the time, but rather Pinot Gris, Pinot Blanc and Aligoté. The combination of this unique blend with long term barrel aging (2 years) made something special. It has a texture, complexity, and distinctiveness that cannot be found in a single white wine varietal. Hand harvested, whole cluster pressed and put into barrel to ferment. The 3 varietals age separate for 2 years in 100% new François Frères French oak barrels. Lovely aroma of vanilla and hazelnuts from the oak, and a mouth-coating richness, makes for a wine that seems like Chardonnay. But the fruit profile is more bruised apple and pear, and the aromas are more floral than Chardonnay. Minerally lavender and vanilla note from the fermentation/aging regime in top-notch barrels. Aromas of ripe stone fruit, contrast nicely with fresh herbal scent as the wine is initially evaluated.

Parker's Wine Advocate 99/100 "A candidate for wine-of-the-vintage honors in Champagne, Roederer's 2013 Cristal Rosé is showing brilliantly, unfurling in the glass with notes of crisp orchard fruit, white flowers, red berries, stone fruit, freshly baked bread and tangerine oil. Full-bodied, layered and multidimensional, the vintage's bright girdling acids are amply cloaked in exuberant, expressive and notably concentrated fruit; so while this Cristal is as tensile and age-worthy as one would expect, it's also impressively fleshy and generous given the year. Concluding with an intensely sapid finish, the 2013 isn't as overtly structured as the muscular, tightly wound 2012: rather, it's the 2013's alliance of cut and flesh, precision and charm that's so compelling this year. This is another banner vintage for what I consider the reigning champion of the region's tête de cuvée bottlings, and it will be worth an effort to acquire."

The rocky clay-limestone soil and sun-catching easterly exposure of Clos Saint-Denis produces Pinot Noirs which are relatively light in structure (the are not quite so firmly structured as its Grand Cru twin, Clos de la Roche, for example), but with finely nuanced aromatics and seductive Pinot fruit. The main landowners in Clos Saint-Denis are Domaine Dujac and Domaine Georges Lignier.

Deep ruby colour. Rich and generous mouth. This cuvée aims at giving the best expression of Grenache on elegance, with a peculiar attention on balance, freshness and tannic structure. This Châteauneuf du Pape really connects you to your soul.

Displaying an array of ripe red fruit aromas with highlights of cherries, hints of smokiness and spice add complexity to the nose. The palate has a juicy acidity and fine tannins lending to a refreshingly long finish. Super-premium estate sited in the warmest, driest corner of England, near the coast and Malden (of posh salt fame). This south-facing ridge enjoys an exceptionally long warm growing season - so rare in England. Our old friend John Atkinson, Master of Wine, who is an expert on cool-climate viticulture, is enthusiastically involved. Winemaker is Liam Idzikowski who boasts long experience in English wine-making; backed by owners the Bunker family, the winery is an astonishing no-expense-spared jewel in the crown for English wine. The Pinot is deep and svelte in the Pommard/Volnay tradition, rich of fruit and cool of spice - clove, anise etc. Young but self-evidently grand, and deeply impressive.

There are many delightul Northern Rhone whites from 2025 and this is very much one of them. Performing very well in Crozes-Hermitage tastings in both Terres des Vins and La Revue du vin de France, well up amongst the big boys and girls of the appellation. 70% Marsanne, 30% Roussanne - half from loess soils on l'Homme at Larnage, half from loess soils on Les Pinets at Crozes-Hermitage. 90% steel vat, 10% new 600-litre oak cask fermented, raised 9 months, assembled just before bottling, malo completed.

A blend of Genache Blanc, Gris and Noir, from ancient 90 year old vines in the ancient and quite amazing 'C|os des Escounils' that the brothers are developing and working on re-establishing it's other potential vineyard areas. This is beautiful, racy, elegant wine that is softly textured and very ‘modern’ in its freshness and balance.

Domaines Ott Château Romassan Rouge Bandol is a luxurious and complex red wine that embodies the quintessential flavors and aromas of the Bandol region in France. This 'baby Meursault' is derived from two small, advantageously positioned parcels of old vines just outside the village of Meursault. The 2022 is an excellent vintage that offers immense concentration and a more forward expression in the glass. It boasts opulent, rich qualities and focused minerality that mirror what we love in the wines of the appellation.The vineyards of 35 to 60-year-old vines lie just outside the AOC border of Meursault, which dramatically lowers the price while allowing for one of the greatest White Burgundy values we have. This wine is ready to drink now and doesn’t need aging. Zesty, bitter citrus, lemon, and grapefruit characters, with a biscuity, yeasty character all held together by a spicy acidity, and a lean mineral salinity. Serious integration, sheer quality.

A very special wine. Winemaker Vincent comes from the Loire Valley so knows about Chenin from there and time making wine in South Africa. Chenin originated in the Languedoc so bringing it back is exciting. The wine is fermented in egg shaped concrete fermenting tanks, which allows better movement of liquid during and after fermentation than in stainless steel. Some barrel ageing too for texture. Well balanced with a purity of fruit enhanced by its roundness and length.. Highly recommended.

A delicious Pinot Noir from one of Burgundy's lesser known but fantastic appellations - Maranges. The vines for this wine date back to 1945 and create a wine that is concentrated with a deep, rich colour and wonderful expressive fruit flavours. The grapes are allowed to ripen to maturity before harvest to obtain the softest possible tannins. Drinking superbly now and can also age for many years to come. Perfect with turkey, game and even beef. We have been working with the Legros brothers Sam and Lenaic since, well, for as long as we can remember, at least 25 years. Their vines are very old and seem to enjoy life on the upper slopes of Santenay and Maranges, protected from the worst excesses of the climate by limestone cliffs and woodland. They harvest late to offer ripeness and richness, a hedonistic style that is irresistible to us and many customers.

Old vine Garnacha and Carinena planted as long ago as 1930. Concentrated, dense and pure black fruit in the palate. This Montsant has character. It is lively and fresh. Lots of quality aromas such as pencil lead, graphite and charcoal. The concentration does not compete with the gentle and expressive fruit. Acústic Negre is the flagship wine of Acústic Celler, founded by winemaker Albert Jané. The estate's philosophy is to produce "acoustic" wines-authentic expressions of old-vine, indigenous varieties with minimal intervention. The 2022 vintage is crafted from old-vine Garnatxa (Grenache) and Carinyena (Carignan) sourced from 35-65-year-old vineyards on poor, stony soils at 300-700 metres above sea level. The wine is aged for 10 months in fine-grained French oak barrels, adding complexity while preserving fruit purity.

Here’s something you don’t come across everyday…a Nebbiolo/Cabernet blend that is fermented and aged in concrete egg. The choice of fermentation vessel aids circulation during teh ferment which imparts depth, volume and texture to the resultant wine. This fabulous wine not only has a cool, egg-shaped label, but drinks beautifully, showing bright acidity and a lovely balance between sweet blackcurrant fruit and something altogether more savoury and herbal. The finish is clean and multi-layered. It has a purity of fruit that allows the drinker to experience the flavours of BNebbiolo without the normal oak influence tasted in Piemontese versions.

91/100!!!! 100% Pinot Nero, Red Angel has an aroma that is heady, well-orchestrated, and slightly herbaceous. The Pinot Nero stands out with elegant finesse, having been aged in oak for five months, it is fresh and light in style. Jermann own a combined 170 hectares of prime vineyards at their two estates in Collio and Isonzo. From Austria’s Burgenland to Biljana in Slovenia, the Jermann family’s journey would see Anton Jermann lead them over the border to Farra d’Isonzo, in Italy’s pretty, hilly, nearby Friuli in 1881. Today, this is where the winery still resides. Leaning on Anton’s legacy, Silvio Jermann, Anton Jermann’s great grandson, has since turned the Jermann name into a reference point, not only for the region, but for Italy as a whole.

The wine reveals a beautiful peach hue, reminiscent of rose gold. The nose is enveloping with aromas of candied citrus, evolving towards lemon verbena leaves. Amber coloured with orange and garnet tones. The delicate green highlights of the meniscus is characteristic of old cask-aged wines and illustrates the quality and advanced age of this fine port. This complex, perfectly balanced port shows rich aromas of dried fruit and vanilla. Agitate the glass and spice aromas of cinnamon and cocoa are liberated. In the mouth, the attack is fresh, fine and delicate. Ripe, dried fruit softly emerges with almond and hazelnut, culminating in vanilla flavours which linger gracefully on the palate. Appreciate this elegant Port at the close of a fine meal with good friends.It should be served at 15º- 19ºC.
