It fans out in glorious fashion – a stunning de Fargues that is now beginning to show its talents. A complex Beaujolais packed with alluring red-fruit and herbal elements that interplay across your palate in perfect harmony. Medium-intensity ruby in colour, this wine has an aromatic, medium-plus-intensity nose of red plum, fig, hay rhubarb, raspberry, red currant, violet, black tea, and hibiscus. On the palate the dry, medium-bodied Beaujolais has medium-plus-intensity, floral flavours suggested on the nose supported by medium acidity and completing with a black-tea-infused, long finish. Ricossa
A junior version of Barolo and Barbaresco: priced accordingly, and a much better bet than lower-end versions of those greats. Langhe Nebbiolo occupies an interesting legal status in that it is the only appellation available for top Barolo and Barbaresco to downgrade or declassify their wines, therefore offcuts and lesser batches end up in their Langhe wine at a cheaper price. This example is classic: pale, leathery, dried fruits and flowers, a pinot-like delicacy and savoury layering. Charming dinner wine, let it breathe for an hour or so before drinking.

It has a lavish structure and rich wood scents. Balance is the key to this wine. A balance of oak and fruit, a balance of tannin and acid, and a balance of elegance and intensity. The "La Bauge" Pinots have a more integrated structure and suppleness early on, making them enjoyable now, though they will age well.

Fontanassa
This is a richer, full bodied and more complex white wine with minerality and almonds. Tbh this wine is so special that it’s difficult to describe. Although it’s a heavier white, it can also taste light and even sometimes a little floral. It’s contradictory. And that’s why I love it. Serve it only lightly chilled. This is a heavier white so it can take on some heavier white meat dishes. But as Piemonte is the home of Risotto, we think a really simple cheese, pumpkin or saffron risotto is a great pairin Timorasso is one of Italy’s rarest grapes. It’s only grown in a tiny area by a few winegrowers. It’s spectacular, though. The Italians call it the ‘White Barolo’ and you know how obsessed everyone is with Barolos.

2nd Wine of Ch Laroque, Saint Emilion Grand Cru Classé. Made of 96% Merlot and 4% Cabernet Franc from vines more than 50 years old, the medium to deep garnet-purple coloured 2019 Les Tours de Laroque opens with pretty raspberry coulis, black cherries and warm plums scents with underlying fungi, black loam and cracked pepper hints plus a touch of beef drippings. Medium to full-bodied, elegant and fresh, with a firm line of grainy tannins, it delivers a graceful, earthy finish.

Domaine Bachey-Legros
The vines, planted in 1945, delve deep and create a concentrated wine with an incredible inky black colour. Maranges is slightly off the beaten track but a really interesting source of fleshy, rich red Burgundy that look better and better value as prices rise for better known villages. Bachey-Legros makes one of the very best examples in the Maranges appellation from the single 'Le Goty' vineyard . "Slightly purple. Savoury and plump. Quite spicy on the nose. Some notes of stems. Fairly grippy tannin. Savoury and expressive. Redcurrant acidity on the palate."

Remi Jeanniard’s neighbours say that he and his wife are always in the vineyards; even on 2nd January, they were seen out pruning the vines. Remi has just over 7 hectares of vines in and around Morey-St-Denis. The vines are much older than average, with all of his Vieilles Vignes village bottlings being at least 50 years old. This gives a natural concentration to the wines which are both well structured and elegant. Dried fruits, figs, cherries, currants, and violets. Exciting. Less plush than the jeunes vignes, but more vibrant and intense. Supple tannins.

Very Limited presentation to commemorate Cambridge Wine Merchants' 30th Anniversary, presented in a cream and gold Ramos Pinto 30 Year Old branded box with exclusive CWM 30th Anniversary branding. Amber coloured with orange and garnet tones. The delicate green highlights of the meniscus is characteristic of old cask-aged wines and illustrates the quality and advanced age of this fine port. This complex, perfectly balanced port shows rich aromas of dried fruit and vanilla. Agitate the glass and spice aromas of cinnamon and cocoa are liberated. In the mouth, the attack is fresh, fine and delicate. Ripe, dried fruit softly emerges with almond and hazelnut, culminating in vanilla flavours which linger gracefully on the palate. Appreciate this elegant Port at the close of a fine meal with good friends.It should be served at 15º- 19ºC.

From Gascony's leading privately-owned wine estate, this great rosé has a lovely clove spiciness and makes for an excellent dinner wine. Pale pink with salmon tints. Very expressive nose of raspberry to jammy strawberry with a hint of rhubarb and mint, evocative of red-fruit ices and sorbets. All that’s missing from the palate is the sugar in this rounded, lingering and refreshing fruit coulis. A pleasant wine whatever the occasion.

Grown on rocky schist soils in the commune of Estagel. West to north-west exposure. The vineyard is called 'Poux Baly'. A beautiful, bright blend of Vermentino 38%, Grenache Gris 34% and Maccabeu 28% that is utterly delicious and versatile. Medium weight with a fine, fresh length. Harvested at night into small crates and made very naturally and fermented in steel vats, with only one small addition of sulphites before bottling. Malolactic fermentation is blocked to keep the bright freshness.

Rolly Gassmann
Rolly-Gassmann is a domaine like no other and has a unique style. It is located at Rorschwihr, a sleepy village on the northern rim of Haut-Rhin. The vineyards are located in Rorschwihr and the neighbouring Rodern and Bergheim. The wines are small masterpieces with very good definition. They all carry the signature of Rolly-Gassmann, a certain shameless, velvety sweetness. The fruit is rich and manages to balance the fruit with a vibrant acidity to form wines that melt on the palate. From clay/calcareous marl soils from Rorschwihr, the golden-yellow Gewurztraminer opens with a beautifully clear, intense and aromatic, very elegant and already mineral and complex nose. Full-bodied, highly elegant and perfectly balanced, with stimulating salinity and grip, this is a gorgeous, well-concentrated Gewurz with a long and elegant, highly seductive finish

Au Bon Climat
Au Bon Climat’s “Hildegard” is a recreation of the original varietal planting of the Corton Charlemagne vineyard in 800 A.D. Chardonnay was not part of the mix at the time, but rather Pinot Gris, Pinot Blanc and Aligoté. The combination of this unique blend with long term barrel aging (2 years) made something special. It has a texture, complexity, and distinctiveness that cannot be found in a single white wine varietal. Hand harvested, whole cluster pressed and put into barrel to ferment. The 3 varietals age separate for 2 years in 100% new François Frères French oak barrels. Lovely aroma of vanilla and hazelnuts from the oak, and a mouth-coating richness, makes for a wine that seems like Chardonnay. But the fruit profile is more bruised apple and pear, and the aromas are more floral than Chardonnay. Minerally lavender and vanilla note from the fermentation/aging regime in top-notch barrels. Aromas of ripe stone fruit, contrast nicely with fresh herbal scent as the wine is initially evaluated.

Domaine des Schistes
Produced from beautiful organic Muscat grapes grown on a great schist terroir with a top-soil of schistous marl in the commune of Tautavel, facing south-east. The grapes are composed of 80% Muscat Petits Grains and 20% Muscat d'Alexandrie. Yields are very low at around 20 hl/ha. A manual harvest takes place in the morning, when the grapes have an alcoholic potential of 14.5°/15°. Very long direct pressing, at low pressure, followed by coarse settling overnight in the open air. Fermentation takes place in vat, at a temperature of 20-23°C. It is stopped by mutage with certified organic neutral alcohol (representing a maximum of 10% of the final volume). Aging takes place on fine lees, in closed stainless steel vats, sheltered from oxidation. This is the finest and freshest Muscat de Rivesaltes we've found. We are very happy to be shipping this great example from the finest of growers to the UK.

Pierre Bertrand
A small family grower in the famous village of Cumieres in the Marne valley. Pinot-dominated like most wines from this village, it's deep copper/gold and wonderfully peachy and lush, explosively juicy, and cracking value. The extended bottle ageing of this wine (6-8 years) is way longer most NV Champagnes and lends the wines its weight and character. But it's also fresh and lemony which is such a great combination. Judges on a Decanter tasting panel were all blown away by this Cuvée when tasting it blind with other Grower Champagnes in 2019, giving it 98 points and one of the best rated wines of the year. We love it too and have been shipping it direct from the Bertrand family since 2008.

Gian Luca Colombo
After Gian Luca completed his Masters in Viticulture and Oenology after 11 years of study and worked as a wine consultant across Italy in 2011 he started his own small winery in the heart of his native Langhe. Within 3 years he won the Gambelli award for Young Winemaker of the Year. His small Segni di Langa estate is located in Roddi in Barolo country and working sustainably he takes a very minimal interventionist approach allowing each vintage to showcase itself. Making his wines in the 'garage' beneath his house he typifies the small scale, high quality, personal style of winemaking. 60% Barolo village, 370m. 40% Dogliani Village, 350 to 550m. North / North-East facing. From north facing vineyards that are well-protected from the hot sun. After fermentation with only natural, wild yeasts the wine is then aged in amphora and large Stockinger barrels. Gian Luca is a bit a dab hand with Pinot Nero, having started producing it prior to turning his hand to Nebbiolo and the rest. Truffley, with the scents of sous bois and woodland earth. Leading to spicy cinnamon and clove and piercing fruit - cherries, redcurrants and pomegranate. Fine, long, pure and vibrant Pinot Nero.

Tesselaarsdal
Berene Sauls has a very unique story. Growing up in a small village in the Overberg, Berene admits that she came from a beer-drinking community, and wine was never really on her radar. Her first exposure was at the age of 19, when she began working for the trailblazing Hamilton Russell family as an au pair. Lasting only a month, her talents at childcare aside, Anthony Hamilton Russell recognised her drive and thought a job working in the winery office would better suit her. Thrown in at the deep end knowing really nothing about wine, she was soon exposed to every side of the business - assisting with exports, bottling and labelling, driving forklifts and picking during harvest too, as well as on the side, "growing and developing a palate that wasn't there!" Her curiosity kept her rising through the ranks, and fifteen years after starting her career, Anthony offered her the opportunity to make her first wine, aided by proficient head winemaker Emul Ross. She leapt at the opportunity, and the rest is history. She named her business Tesselaarsdal for the small village that she grew up in, and if you look closely at the label, you can make out two people walking across the mountain. This is Berene and her grandmother. From unirrigated vineyards on the Hemel-en-Aarde Ridge, and this is just her third release! Crisp acidity and lean minerality underpin notes of melon and tangerine fruit and accents of lime blossom. A triumphant expression of terroir, this medium-bodied, cool climate wine is both silky and fresh and boasts a long, elegant finish.

Rivetto
The 'house' Barolo from Rivetto. The only producer who grows organically and biodynamically and is certified in the DOCG. This beautiful Serralunga is grown on soils of Serravallian origin, which are clay-limestone. Soil with sub-alkaline reaction, with presence of magnesium, calcium and iron. On east, south-east and north-east slopes at between 340-420 metres altitude from the vineyards of Serra, Manocino and San Bernardo. Selection in stages, carried out three times in the 45 days before the start of the harvest. Manually harvested as late as possible. The must sees stem and grape seeds removal, pressing and room temperature maceration for two days, then cooled. Total duration of maceration is 20-25 days. The wine then sees natural fermentation on its wild yeast at 28-30° C. Malolactic completed. The wine is then aged in large Slavonian oak barrels (30hL) for 30 months, aged in bottle for a further ten months before release. A pale, elegant example of Barolo from Serralunga. Violets, rose hips, tobacco and leather are surrounded by gorgeous red fruits and elegant tannins. Enrico works wonders in this area to produces such ethereal, beautiful wines with grace and power that shall drink well on release and develop further interest for at least twenty years from this superb 2019 vintage. Current Excise rates are £13.39 per 4.5 litre case (equivalent to 6x75cl), Customs are Zero and VAT is currently charged at 20%. These taxes are liable to change, and will be charged at the prevailing rate when the goods are shipped and delivered. At that time, a refund will be issued for the value of the amount paid En Primeur and a new VAT invoice issued, including a charge for onward delivery.
