Wine Course : WSET Level 2 Certificate in Wines and Spirits

This course covers the main grape varieties and wine producing regions and aims to go beyond basic knowledge. It's intended for candidates who'd like to solidify and further what they already know by looking behind the label. It's suitable for retail and hospitality industry employees. But many candidates are just interested in wine, love drinking it, and want to learn a bit more about it.

The course aims to give:
  • secure knowledge of the main grape varieties and wine-producing regions
  • an understanding of the factors that influence style, quality and price
  • an overview of the major spirit types and their production
  • real confidence in selecting and talking about wines - and how to write proper tasting notes.

Over the course you'll taste dozens of wines in order to develop tasting technique and ground your knowledge in the experience of tasting. You'll get superb study materials produced by WSET, the Wine and Spirits Education Trust, including textbook, study guide and tasting notebook to keep.

The course takes place at our Cherry Hinton Road branch, which is our Wine Bar and Wine School. It's a relaxed environment and so is the teaching: rigorous but always informal and fun. If you'd like any more information, don't hesitate to contact wine tutor Steve Hovington (details below) or any of the team, who will be happy to help.

We invariably obtain exceptional results on this course, many of our candidates gaining distinction in the past few months. Candidates go away confident in their knowledge and - hopefully - enjoying wines and spirits all the more.

When: 3 day classes 10.00am-4.30pm: Thursday 4th, 11th and 18th July 2013

Where: at our Wine School, 163 Cherry Hinton Road, Cambridge CB1 7BX

How much: £345 (includes all study materials, tasting samples, tuition, examination and certification).

How to enrol: Call our Cherry Hinton Road team on 01223 214 548. Email cherry@cambridgewine.com for more information.

Wine Tasting: Tour of Spain

When people think Spanish wine many automatically think of Rioja , Cava and of course Sherry but there’s so much more to Spain to explore. Did you know that Spain produces one of the most exciting white wines in the world? Albarino from a foggy, rainy strip of land in the North West called Rias Biaxas. And if you like Chateauneuf du Pape then you must try the intense, earthy, blackberry scented Priorat, where the Grenache grape (Garnacha) really comes into its own. There are some stunning wines made in Rueda, Ribera del Duero and Somontano too.

Contemporary, food friendly and great value. We’ll give you a guided tour, Spanish themed nibbles provided.

Where : The Tasting Room, 163 Cherry Hinton Road, Cambridge, CB1 7BX

When : Wednesday 24th July , 7.30pm

How much : £15 (buy six tickets in one transaction and get one free)

How to book : Contact our Cherry Hinton Road team on 01223 214 548 or drop into the store
