Wine Antiques and Accessories with Robin Butler at our Cherry Hinton Road Wine Bar

Tuesday 11th April, 7pm at our Cherry Hinton Road Branch

Tickets £15

We are delighted to announce our first event with Robina Butler, the world's leading light in antique wine accessories. The evening will feature an interactive talk from Robin, as well as a tasting with wines poured from antique decanters which Robin will be bringing with him.

Robin Butler has inhabited the world of Antiques for over 50 years and has specialised in antique wine accessories since 1978, the first to do so worldwide. He has written two books on the subject - “The Book of Wine Antiques” (1986) and “Great British Wine Accessories 1550 - 1900” (2009).

Robin’s interest is as much to do with practicality as it is with historical accuracy and ‘collector interest’ - A decanter of, say, 1780, should be what its design suggests, but equally importantly, it should also hold a full bottle and pour well.

Within his subject, Robin has niche interests. One is ‘ship’s decanters’ - a subject on which he recently addressed The Glass Circle.  Another is large format decanters - made by 18th century glass makers, just as they are today.

In addition to decanters of various forms, Robin will outline the enormous scope of this intriguing subject, from wine funnels and claret jugs to wine labels and coolers and from goblets and glasses to corkscrews and tasters. He will illustrate his presentation with actual examples which may be handled and inspected at close quarters.

This is not an event to be missed. Call 01223 214 548 or email cherry@cambridgewine.com to book tickets.
