Wine Course : WSET Level 1 Certificate in Wines

This is an entry level course intended for anyone new to the world of wine. It's open to both starters in the hospitality and retail industries - and to you if you just want to start learning more about what's in your glass.

The course aims to

  • give a grounding in the major grape varieties
  • cover the essentials of food and wine matching
  • demystify the world of wine for beginners
  • give a real confidence boost in talking about and serving wine

We'll taste different samples of each grape variety as we talk through them and you'll get excellent quality study materials from WSET, the Wine and Spirits Education Trust.

At the end of the day there'll be a food and wine matching challenge and a simple multiple choice exam.

If you pass (100% of our candidates have done!), you'll get an internationally-recognised qualification.

The course is held in our Cherry Hinton Road branch. It's an informal and relaxed environment, and so is the teaching: rigorous but fun. If you'd like any more info, don't hesitate to contact wine tutor Steve or any member of the team, who will be happy to help.

When: Saturday 1st June 2013, 10am - 5.00pm
Where: At our Wine School, 163 Cherry Hinton Road, Cambridge CB1 7BX
How much: £135 (including all course materials, wine samples, tuition, examination and certificate)
How to enrol: Call Steve or the Cherry Hinton Road team on 01223 214 548. Email cherry@cambridgewine.com for more info.

In 1141 Brolio Castle passed into the hands of the Ricasoli family.

Today it is the largest winery in the Chianti Classico area: Brolio Castle, where Baron Bettino Ricasoli invented the Chianti formula in 1872, is surrounded by 1,200 hectares in the communes of Gaiole and Castelnuovo Berardino. Valleys, hills, woods of oak and chestnut trees, 240 hectares of vineyards and 26 hectares of olive groves, all enjoying the beauty and the wide variety of soils and climate in this central Chianti area.
