CWM Wine Appreciation Society

We are delighted to be launching a new Wine Appreciation Society, based in our Cherry Hinton Road branch. In a similar vein to the popular Gin Club, we will be meeting once a month to explore various regions, grapes, and styles and taste a broad selection of wines from our range.

The meetings are intended to be more sociable than a formal, structured tasting. The host will give a short introduction for each of the wines, while the emphasis will be more on sharing conversation and enjoying the drinks together.

Our retail manager, Clive Pawsey, has kindly agreed to lead the first session for us, on the wines of Languedoc-Rousillon, a range of wines we’re very proud of, and for which Cambridge Wine Merchants has received numerous awards. Going forward we aim to have a diverse series of themes, from famous regions, to popular styles of sparkling, fortified, and sweet wines, as well as the perfect wines for Christmas. If you would like to come along and explore some of the gems from the Languedoc-Rousillon selection, we will be meeting on September 25th at the Cherry Hinton Road branch, at 7pm. Entrance will be £20, including drinks, nibbles, and a 10% discount on the purchase of any of the wines tasted.

Tickets can be purchased by calling the branch directly on 01223 214 553 or via Eventbrite: https://cwm-wine-appreciation-society.eventbrite.co.uk

Tickets are non-refundable but are transferable.

Old World Vs New World Wine Fair at the University Centre

Are styles converging, or diverging? Are New World ‘upstarts’ cutting a radical new dash or imitating their European predecessors? Are the ‘European Greats’ overcharging and resting on their laurels? Ideals of terroir – out-moded nonsense or stylistic reality? And most importantly – where’s the best value and what tastes best?

Please join us to enjoy and explore this thesis further with 32 wines on parade lined up style vs. style – Champagne against Tasmanian fizz, and so on.

Ports and Fortified Wine Fair at the University Centre

Port is undoubtedly the most famous of the fortified wines. Styles can vary massively from ruby ports through to Late Bottle Vintage and Vintage Ports.

But there are plenty of other fortified wines out there too try.

Sherry has developed something of a bad reputation over the years but there are some incredible ones out there. From the super dry and salty Manzanillas through to the rich and sweet PX style.

There will be also be a range of Madiera and Marsalas to try too.
